Summary: It's time to regroup, establish new ties, and form a plan

It may have been word of mouth. It could have been one of the many notes Reno left on doors or on beds (and in some cases, foreheads) of those he knew to be members or trusted. Or it could have been just as simple as a friend grabbing another for a 'walk.' The notes read, "Meeting. Morning, Jan 20th." There is no location, or any hint of any; Reno suspects most people will get the idea to go there, simply because it wasn't mentioned. It isn't supposed to exist, after all.

Shion leaned into the touch, not looking up from his notes but glad to have Reno there.

"Your recruiting went well then..." There was more people, which was good. More people working together, it could only mean more chances at fighting the administrators.

"I haven't recruited anybody. If they're here, it's because they want to be." The last person Reno had spoken to about recruiting had been Diarmuid. The rest of the people... that's up to them. "I was resting, remember?"

"But that means people know about it still..." He told him, leaning in more. "It's good that they want to be here."

"It's all some of us got left." Though, he didn't qualify what he meant; it seemed vague enough that it could mean a fairly large amount of things, but being Reno, he had something specific in mind.

"Reno?" And Shion being Shion knew Reno and knew that he meant it in more of a vague sense. He looked at him, his face calm though his eyes held worry.

Squeezing Shion's shoulder in a comforting way he usually reserved for training sessions or pep talks, Reno shook his head. "Didn't mean anything by that. Just meant some of us are feelin' the time pinch already."

"Well there's not long left..." A terrifying thought, and Shion had to pause in order to stop his mind from panicking. "But there is still time. Five months is quite a lot."

Reno hesitated, as if he hadn't realized it really was that short, and counted out the months ahead. "I keep thinking six. That's 'bout as long from now to when I got back in September... not long at all thinking that way."

Knowing Shion's discomfort, he squeezed Shion's shoulder again and smiled, but this time couldn't hide the weary pinch around his eyes. "We'll be all right. An' even if we aren't, hey, some people never know when it's going to happen. I guess we're lucky that way. Point is, don't look to the future more than you have to. You should... y'know, try living it up a bit. Fall in love. Get drunk for the first time." And there, after a hair ruffle, Reno pecked him on the forehead. "You're my kid, wouldn't be right if ya went out too innocent."

Shion nodded, he guessed Reno was right. They were lucky because some people died without ever knowing they were going to, without being able to say goodbye or know that the last months they had with those they loved were just that.

"You got me drunk on my birthday." He smiled softly "And I love Rat so maybe I'm not so innocent as you think."

"But you haven't really lived, Shion..." Reno turned away, his hand still on Shion's shoulder. "You're so afraid of being angry, you don't really throw yourself into anything except work. I wish... I knew what to do to help you so you can. Seein' you and Xion experience that, I could face the end better."

Shion blinked at him and then flung his arms around him, hugging him tightly. "It's okay Reno, you don't have to worry about me..."

He paused, "I might not have had such an exciting life as yours... but most of it has been good." And would be good, because he had promised Xion they would get out of this place and find a world to live happily.

After a surprised moment, Reno hugged him back, holding on a little bit too tightly. "Are you sure, Shion? You're not just sayin' that so I won't worry?"

"I'm sure." He told him sincerely. "Even the parts that haven't been good... they are part of what makes me me..." And he liked being him, even though sometimes he got angry at himself.

"I guess I can't really argue with that..." But there's a lot more he wanted to say. A lot more that needed to be said, but the words failed him, like they always fail him when he tried to talk to Shion. "Are you proud of who you are?"

Shion thought about that, because that was a much harder question. One that he wasn't sure of the answer to. He was proud of some of the things he had done, but if he was proud of the person he was... "I don't know... I'm not sure if anyone can truly say if they are proud of who they are." Who they were depended so much on circumstances after all.

Reno shuffled his feet and sighed. "If... if all we are is the result of experience, Shion, if those experiences were worthwhile, then you should have pride. Otherwise, if ya don't have pride in yourself, it's all kinda pointless and you're tellin' everyone that you've had experiences with that they weren't worth it."

Shion winced, he hadn't seen it like that. It was a complicated thing and he rested his head on Reno's shoulder thinking about it. "Then I guess I am proud of myself." He sighed and was silent a moment before he spoke again, "I didn't lose control yesterday... I almost did, but I stopped."

That's the first Reno's hearing of it, and inside he's about ready to burst. He gave Shion another hug, patting his back. "Shion! That's great! So this stuff we've been workin' on is helping, huh?" For a moment, the cold facade he's been wearing is gone.

Shion nodded, "Diarmuid helped... he found me." He gave a tiny smile, "But it worked, I was able to calm down." His smile got larger, he just hoped it hadn't been a fluke, that he'd be able to do it again, and without someone else there.

"Just remember how that felt, Shion. It'll get easier the more ya do it." And possibly remind himself to send a thanks to Diarmuid sometime, even though, honestly, he felt more annoyed than he should. Shion's his responsibility, and it hurt knowing that someone else had to help him... "Don't forget."
