march 6th | sam's birthday! [open log]

Characters: Lelouch [personal profile] doasisay and anyone else who would like to come along for Sam's [personal profile] undroppedeaves birthday.
Setting: Lelouch starts out in the cafeteria and then heads elsewhere for Sam.
Format: Doesn't matter. Whatever you wanna do!
Summary: Today is Sam's birthday. He's been such a good friend to everyone that Lelouch has decided (with the uncooperative help of Waver) to throw him a small party. Everyone is welcome.
Warnings: None as of right now.

Lelouch didn't know that much about Sam, but he did know that he deserved as much kindness as he gave everyone else in this place. This place was (more or less) hell for others and he kept a smile on his face. That was something that Lelouch thought was very brave.

Lelouch had been in the cafeteria all morning, baking a cake for his friend. He had invited Waver but...he didn't seem to show. It didn't bother him though, I mean, he had just moved into the room and they hadn't exactly gotten to know each other yet. He wanted to do this for Sam though. A party for Sam would've been nice, but he didn't know all of Sam's friends. So Lelouch had tried his best to get in touch with others and invite them along to meet in their room.

Once the cake (except it's a white cake with white fondant on it and the writing is blue) was ready, Lelouch put it in a box and carefully made his way to the second floor and to their room. He had been hoping that Sam would be away for a bit so that he could get it finished in time.

Sam blinked, a little confused at the first statement and more so at the second, "Of course I am, though it isn't much, there wasn't much I could find and the flowers were so pretty I thought to myself, well these will brighten up folks' rooms if nothing else. Are birthday presents not a custom of big people?"

It would explain the slightly odd looks anyways.

"Birthday presents are, but the exact tradition is apparently different between our people. So, your tradition is that on a birthday, the person whose birthday it is gives gifts to others, right?" Diarmuid wants to make sure he is understanding what Sam is saying correctly, which is why he repeats it before continuing, "Our tradition is that we give gifts to the person whose birthday it is. They are actually quite the opposites of each other oddly enough."

Sam nodded, to show that Diarmuid that he had it right. "Oh, so they are." He thought about that, it made sense in a way. Though he was sure he liked the hobbit way better, it seemed fairer, if people were going to come and celebrate with you they should get presents, and it meant everyone got presents through the year instead of just lots at once.

"No wonder everyone has seemed so confused."

"Yes, I am going to guess they were pretty confused. If you get the chance, you should make sure you explain about your customs to them. I have to admit, I do like your version of the tradition and your gift. Thank you," Diarmuid slips the flower behind his ear--there really isn't a better place to safely put it considering his armor. "Do you have any other interesting birthday traditions?"

"I will do, thank you." Sam smiled, it was good to know these things, so he didn't confuse people.

"Well parties are a tradition and there's always cake and games. We invite folk but it is pretty much expected that most of Hobbiton will turn up anyways. Hobbits like parties."

"Yes, if I recall right, Legolas said that your people are very happy and laid back most of the time. I expect you would like parties a great deal," Diarmuid smiles for a moment, before his expression becomes more grim. "It must be so hard for you to be here. This place is far from happy or relaxed..."

"Aye, but it is hard for everyone I would say. People seldom like strife and pain." It was a far cry from Hobbiton, but Sam had not seen his home in a very long time.

"There's hope here though, which is better than some places I've seen."

"You have seen places where hope has been completely lost?" Diarmuid looks, first surprised, and then sad. As someone who believes on never giving up hope, it makes him uneasy to know of places were all have done just that.

"I...can hardly imagine how terrible it must be. Can it even be called living is there is no hope?"

"Aye." He guessed it was an apt way to describe Mordor a place with no hope. "I wouldn't call any part of that land alive," He shook his head, "But hope tends to find a way in the end. At least I think so."

Diarmuid nods, a contemplative look on his face, "Hope is mobile, not stationary. While it can be driven from a land, it can very easily be carried back into the land by a few people who believe in it strongly enough. It sounds like you have some very interesting tales to tell, my friend. Maybe I could ask you to share them sometime? I won't ask now. This is your party, after all, and I don't want to keep you from the other guests for too long."

"Aye... I am not the best story teller I'm afraid, if Frodo or Gandalf were still here I'd send you to them." But as it was he was the only one from his world, everyone else was gone. "I'd be happy to try though."

But birthdays were not times for sad thoughts and he smiled, "Well as I say you are welcome to come and try some of the cake, it really is delicious."

"Trying is all I ever ask of anyone. I am sure you will do just fine," Diarmuid politely bows to Sam and the looks toward the cake when the hobbit mentions it. "I would be glad to try some and maybe if I am lucky, I can even get Waver to relax enough to try some."

He turns back to Sam with a smile, "Enjoy your party. It was a great pleasure to meet you."

"I hope that you do, me and Lelouch did not succeed I'm afraid." He wondered if Waver even knew how to relax. But he could not think ill of the man for it, he had helped make the cake after all and they were using his room for the party.

"It was a pleasure to meet you too."

"Don't worry," Diarmuid grins at Sam and then starts walking toward Waver with a last polite wave to the hobbit as he goes. "I have special powers when it comes to taming Wavers. Enjoy your party and I will do my very best to make sure he enjoys it too."

"I will, and you remember to enjoy yourself too." Sam called after him before going to great another guest.
