march 6th | sam's birthday! [open log]
Characters: Lelouch
doasisay and anyone else who would like to come along for Sam's
undroppedeaves birthday.
Setting: Lelouch starts out in the cafeteria and then heads elsewhere for Sam.
Format: Doesn't matter. Whatever you wanna do!
Summary: Today is Sam's birthday. He's been such a good friend to everyone that Lelouch has decided (with the uncooperative help of Waver) to throw him a small party. Everyone is welcome.
Warnings: None as of right now.
Lelouch didn't know that much about Sam, but he did know that he deserved as much kindness as he gave everyone else in this place. This place was (more or less) hell for others and he kept a smile on his face. That was something that Lelouch thought was very brave.
Lelouch had been in the cafeteria all morning, baking a cake for his friend. He had invited Waver but...he didn't seem to show. It didn't bother him though, I mean, he had just moved into the room and they hadn't exactly gotten to know each other yet. He wanted to do this for Sam though. A party for Sam would've been nice, but he didn't know all of Sam's friends. So Lelouch had tried his best to get in touch with others and invite them along to meet in their room.
Once the cake (except it's a white cake with white fondant on it and the writing is blue) was ready, Lelouch put it in a box and carefully made his way to the second floor and to their room. He had been hoping that Sam would be away for a bit so that he could get it finished in time.

[However, it occurred to him that he should at least make an effort to get along with the people he'd be rooming with presumably until the apocalypse. Whether his social skills were a disaster or not, Waver could at least recognize the value of a few more allies in a place like this.]
Lelouch? [When the ponytailed magus in green arrived, a woman trailed behind him...or rather, a silver liquid shaped like a woman.] You'll have to forgive me being late, I spent most of the morning in the laboratory.

It's no problem, I'm surprised that you came here at all. You didn't have to, but thank you nonetheless.

[Only mostly. The silver woman stepped forward, silently straightening up the kitchen and properly organizing things as she went. Whatever she was, Waver didn't comment or find her remotely unusual.]
I should however mention that I can't cook worth a damn.
no subject
It's fine, you're new. You didn't have to come here at all. I just didn't want you to feel left out.
[ Lelouch smiled, finally done with the batter as he poured it into two seperate pans ] There are other things that you can do, so that's what matters. I taught myself to cook and sew once my parents passed away. It's been my younger brother and I as far back as I can remember, so I had to learn to care for him and myself.

[He tilted his head in the direction of the maid, who had straightened up the kitchen and now simply stood off to the side.]
Take this for example. It's a weapon called Volumen Hydragyrum; a measure of liquid mercury infused with and controlled by magical energy.

I had been curious as to what she actually was, but I didn't want to pry.
no subject
Exactly. I'm specifically an alchemist, myself. Not to say that's the only branch of magecraft there is, but you seem to get the concept of it.

And what's more it was his birthday, another strange thing and though forty one was not a special age by any account, it might be his last.
He went down to the meadow and had just returned when the door to the room opened, he looked up and smiled as he saw Lelouch and Waver.

[Waver gestured to Lelouch, folding his arms.]
For my part, I've had more than enough of sudden surprise parties. But happy birthday, all the same.
[...Someone's cranky.]

I wanted to wish you a happy birthday, Sam. You've been a good friend to everyone here and I know things have been tough... But you deserve a day to be appreciated.
[ he moved to hand the cake to Sam now, being very careful with it ]
I was up this morning baking. I hope you like cake and I apologize, I wasn't able to get any other gift for you.

[Sam loves cake, his smile grows as he looks at them and he hands a small bundle of flowers to both Lelouch and Waver] Thank you so much
no subject
[Which he sort of was. But Waver accepted the flowers with a look of honest surprise on his face.]
...Wait, what's this for?

party - open to everyone, come get presents
His hands were full of presents for everyone. of course he had struggled to think of something, so they were flowers, tied with ribbon that he had found in the room full of materials. He is handing them out to anyone he sees, even if he doesn't know them.

[The blonde man has little interest in stuffing himself in a loud, crowded dorm room without some kind of escape, so he's content with just talking to the birthday hobbit outside.]
S-Sam! [He grins wide--would go for a hug, but Rick holds his broken hand awkwardly and doesn't plan on moving much unless he absolutely has to. The other hand gestures vaguely at the festivities nearby.] W-What is...?

H-How n-n-nice! I--I d-d-didn't know, I'm s-sorry. I sh--should have... [Rick trails off, looking very confused.] ...W-Why...the f-flowers?

Y-You m-mean...b-but I'm s-s-supposed to g-give you a--w-well-- [Or is that just a hobbit thing? Rick stops himself short.] --a-ah--n-never mind. Th--Thank you.

He is further surprised when a flower is pressed into his hand. When he looks down at the person who has given it to him, the memory that was stirring earlier snaps into focus.
"You're one of the Hobbits that Legolas told me about, aren't you!" Diarmuid seems excited at the prospect. Though long gone from the Tower, the elf had suggested he meet the Hobbits who were in it and Diarmuid had not had the chance to do so before now. "Is there a party going on?"
no subject
But it was a party and no time for sadness, "I am, I'm Samwise, there is indeed, you can come and join if you wish. Waver and Lelouch made a delicious cake."

"Aye, it's mine. I'm forty one." Still relatively young, for a Hobbit, and Sam was aware that he had seen more and done more than most hobbits did in an entire lifetime.

It would explain the slightly odd looks anyways.

"No wonder everyone has seemed so confused."

"Well parties are a tradition and there's always cake and games. We invite folk but it is pretty much expected that most of Hobbiton will turn up anyways. Hobbits like parties."

"There's hope here though, which is better than some places I've seen."
no subject
"I...can hardly imagine how terrible it must be. Can it even be called living is there is no hope?"

But birthdays were not times for sad thoughts and he smiled, "Well as I say you are welcome to come and try some of the cake, it really is delicious."

He turns back to Sam with a smile, "Enjoy your party. It was a great pleasure to meet you."

"It was a pleasure to meet you too."

... Nii-san...?

[ he turned back to see him, giving a small and sad smile ]
Rolo, it's...nice to see you.
