04. send my thoughts to far off destinations
Characters: Quark and open
Setting: All day March 9th, Dorm 1-12 and the first floor dorms, the cafeteria, library, and media room.
Format: Either, I'll follow.
Summary: Quark's just trying to have a nice day, keep himself busy and out of trouble. Feel free to join him; he wants to make some new friends! Just don't give him any kissing books to read, or kissing movies to watch.
Warnings: None for now.
Dorm 1-12/Dorm Floor 1, Morning
[Now that Quark has roommates, he's much quicker about getting out of bed. He tries to be quiet, because he wants to be courteous in case anyone else is still asleep, though he's not exactly an early riser himself. He used to be, when he was working all the time back home with his Grandpa, but he's had more than enough time now to break himself of that habit. In a manner of minutes he has the sleep rubbed from his eyes, his coat and hat situated, and is on his merry way to greet the day. Well, he still yawns groggily as he sways his way down the first floor. He can often be found stopping in front of doorways to read the names. Now that everything's all shuffled up and he's not all the way down on the fourth floor where they weren't very many people, he wants to get familiar with who his neighbors are, if only by name!
If he finds a door open and an individual awake, especially if it's someone he recognizes, he's likely to give a friendly little "good morning" wave.]
Cafeteria (Floor 1), Late Morning
[Once Quark felt suitably ready for breakfast, he made his way down to the Cafeteria through the elevator and made his way immediately for the food. In a matter of minutes he had a tray piled up with more chocolate chip pancakes than he could very likely fit into his tiny stomach, and a tall glass of chocolate milk. His Grandpa probably wouldn't have approved of wastefulness, or being so voluntarily unhealthy...but Quark was young and they looked far too delicious to pass up, especially after the previous month where the menu had been so unappealing.
As he takes a seat and begins to eat, he sighs. The chocolate is so yummy, but it's kind of sad that so many of the people he'd met in the Tower weren't around for him to enjoy the food with, anymore. Quark tries to cheer himself up as he swings his feet, which don't quite reach the ground, underneath the table. He'll just have to enjoy it for them! It was a good thing, in that case, that he had snagged so many pancakes.]
Library (Floor 3), Early Afternoon
[Way too full of pancakes, Quark decides to walk a little bit to help himself digest. Before too long, he's made his way to the third floor, where he remembers that, being a library, he needs to behave himself and be quiet. But it's such a big library, it seems like a good idea to walk around there for a little while instead of walking up and up the stairs. It's been a while since he's found any good books to read, especially with Darres (who had been helping him find stories), and it seems like a good idea as any to take his mind off of everything that happened last month.
There's still so, so much to learn, and Quark really does enjoy learning.]
Hmmm...
[Quark frowns as he chooses an aisle to stop on and starts methodically picking out interesting-looking books. Some of them are too complicated, others sound boring. He makes a face as he puts back a particularly tomantic-looking hardcover with a grimace. This is going to take forever.]
Media Room (Floor 14), Late Afternoon
[Eventually, Quark gets tired of reading. He takes a couple books with him and heads further up the stairs, where he makes the executive decision to step off into the media room. What better way to follow reading than to rot your mind with television? Humming pleasantly to himself, Quark claims a beanbag, which he drags over to a stack of disk cases and settles down to look through them. He's never heard of any of the titles, of course, not that he would have even if they were something he could actually find on his homeworld, not owning a real television or DVD player.
Should anyone approach him, however, he's likely to shove one of the aforementioned disk cases into his or her face with a chilidsh lack of subtlety.]
Hey, have you ever watched this one before? Did you like it? Is it good?

Hey, have you ever watched this one before? Did you like it? Is it good?
Media Room (Floor 14)
This one? Yes, I did. It's pretty good.
[Full of silly and fun action, if he remembers correctly.]

[Quark looks from the man who answered his question to the case again. The cover did look fun and silly, with its superhero cast in multi-colored uniforms. He beams.]
Okay! If you say so, then I'll watch it right now!
[He opens the case to put the disk in the player.]
If you aren't busy, maybe we could watch it together!
no subject
Minato smiles and nods.]
Sure thing. I'm here to have fun and watching good shows again is always fun. [Okay, let's claim himself his own beanbag.] I think you'll like Featherman.
[It's rare to find a kid who doesn't like them.]
no subject
Whoa, wow!
[Is generally the extent of his commentary, not including gasps and other such expressive noises that had no actual words.]
This is so cool! This is the coolest thing ever!
no subject
[Compared to Quark, Minato's more of a quiet watcher, but his smile clearly shows how much he enjoy watching it again. As well as seeing how much Quark loves it, too.
After dealing with life in the tower for so long, something as simple as watching a young kid being excited over a sentai show is just like home.]
Which part is your favourite?

library
.. Oh.

[Quark echoes the sentiment, albeit far more enthusiastically. For a second, Quark looks surprised, but then he smiles, his cheeks beginning to turn pink from the embarrassment of not having noticed Urotsuki until their hands collided. Nothing if not polite, he immediately relinquishes his own hold on the book to give it up to her.]
Hi! Are you looking for something fun to read, too?
[It's not until after he says that that his eyes drift over to the obvious stepping stool she's been making out of books.]
Isn't that kind of dangerous?
no subject
It's just going to be like a tower. Just like this tower. I bet you'd be safe if you were climbing it from the outside.
no subject
[There were floors like that, right? Where you could see monsters crawling on the glass?] And it could be hard to breathe if you climb too high!
Floor 14; did you think I was kidding I wasn't kidding
... That sure is a small thin box being shoved in her face. Ah, the woes of being from a world not nearly as technologically advanced as this one. She pulls her head back, staring at the DVD case with confusion as Quark rattles off his questions.]
"The Heir's Betrothed"? ... No, I have not, I am afraid. I have not watched many of those... movies, were they called?
[At least the kid seems to be okay, even if she's a bit overwhelmed.]
I'm so happy you weren't kidding
Heirs...Betrothed...
[He mispronounces it as he tests the words out on his own tongue, but hardly seems phased. It sounds violent. Like beheaded! That could be fun to watch. Quark looks back up at Zelda and looks a bit more bashful. They'd been through a lot lately--and she'd especially been through a lot, so he reminded himself that maybe he should try and be a little more subdued.]
Yeah, movies. Do you wanna watch it with me? It's nice to have company, right?
[Of course, given the showdown in the labyrinth, maybe she wouldn't particularly be interested in watching any theoretical beheading. Nonetheless, Quark smiles cutely up at her. Maybe the story will make her happier, because that's what movies were supposed to do: make you forget about real life. That, and company really did sound kinda nice.]
we are women of action, lies do not become us
And, well, she certainly can't resist a smile like that. A little break shouldn't hurt too much, right?]
If you would like me to, I suppose I could.
[Company is nice, given all that has happened, and Quark seems to have a handle on this whole 'movie' business. She can ask him if she has any questions.]
well spoken, lady
Quark's smile goes from somewhat-pleading to joyous completely as she agrees.]
Yeah! It'll be fun! I even have snacks we can share!
[They were only nutrition bars, of course, but that was better than nothing. Quark crawls forward on his knees to set up the movie, and after a quick series of button pushing, the screen lit itself up with the picturesque view of an open expanse of farmland.
As the story began to set itself up through the help of a sagely narrator, Quark joined Zelda once again, getting comfortable at her side and curling his knees to his chest.
Creampuff was raised on a small farm in the country...
His eyes darted back and forth in their sockets as he took in the green acres that were cast in sunset hues. Was that what his planet used to look like?]
no subject
Is that so? I will let you know should I become hungry, then.
[Though nutrition bars are hardly a food she associates with fun or relaxation. Regardless, that first shot certainly gets a positive reaction, if one that's more nostalgic than Quark's. The fields remind her so much of Hyrule...
It's then the titular Creampuff comes on screen (though of course, neither one of them know she's the Heir's Betrothed), ordering the farm boy, Weston (though she never calls him that), around. Yet he takes her torment with a smile, and only ever responds with the phrase, "As you wish."
Zelda tilts her head, not entirely impressed with Miss Creampuff just yet, but Quark seems so invested already, she keeps any commentary she might have to herself for now.]

Dorm Floor One
[As Rick straightens his glasses, his new neighbor finally comes into view. Rick smiles brightly and offers a small wave, a quiet hello that will hopefully not disturb others trying to sleep.]
no subject
[Quark catches himself mid-greeting and immediately amends his exuberant volume, rubbing the back of his neck bashfully.]
Good morning, Mr. Rick. I hope you slept really well last night.
[It had only been a few nights since he'd found himself transferred up to the first floor, but gosh, Rick always seemed to be up so early!]
no subject
...A-Are you, ah...a-adjusting well?
no subject
[Quark pouts, shuffling his feet as he considers the answer to the question. He doesn't wanna be ungrateful, but he doesn't want to lie, either.]
I mean, I guess it's nice not to be alone all the way down there anymore...but my roommates are kinda hard to talk to. At least so far.
[Never, not once, did Quark think he'd find a reason to say he missed Dio of all people. And yet...]
Mr. Dio was a mean roommate and would always mess with my stuff without asking, but it was still kind of nice to have someone from home. Even though he was a total jerk.

Media Room
Really, he needs to socialize more anyway, so, with a shrug, Riku wanders over toward Quark, a smirk slithering across his face when he holds up that DVD case.]
Nah, I haven't seen it just yet. Truth is, I haven't been down here in a while.
[He shakes his head.]
But hey, I've got time to burn. A movie's probably just the distraction I need.
AAHHH I'm so sorry it took me so long to reply!
[Quark smiles brightly up at Riku before he looks back down at the case again. It has a group of teenagers dressed in brightly colored jumpsuits standing around with shovels. DITCHES is the title emblazoned across the top in all white, bold letters.
Enthusiastic, he pops the DVD into the player before settling back in his beanbag. He turns to Riku again as the movie loads up.]
What are you trying to get distracted from?
[He didn't doubt it was terrible, being the Tower and all, but he could only hope that it wasn't too terrible.]
No worries o>
Sigh. And of course the kid wants to know more.]
Let's just say I've got a lot on my mind. Hard not to when you're hit with about a million possible futures all at once. I don't even know what to make of that stuff.
Cafeteria
He just hoped someone had, and helped him. He smiled as he drew closer, "That's a meal fit for a hobbit." He told him with a small smile. A very hungry hobbit by the looks of it.
SUPER LATE I'm sorry!
"Do hobbits eat pancakes, too?" Quark smiles brightly, turning in his seat so he can better talk to Sam (and so Sam can sit down). "Back home we couldn't usually afford meals like this so I want to eat as much as I can while I have the chance!"
no subject
"It's a good plan, fill up on as much food as possible, it will give you strength."
Hobbits did not often give up food, but Sam found himself transferring his own pancakes to Quark's plate, he could get more later.
no subject
This is only proven, of course, by the pancakes Sam plops on top of Quark's stack, practically doubling it. His eyes go wide. "Whoa! I-I don't know if I could fill up that much!" Worried as his words are, Quark doesn't sound particularly distraught about the idea of eating his weight in pancakes. "I think I'll turn into a pancake if I try to eat that many!"
And somehow he had a feeling they'd get all mushy and gross if he tried to store them in his hat.
