Every day's great at your... Animus?

Characters: Yosuke Hanamura and YOU! Yes, YOU!
Setting: Room 2-14 and Floor 14
Format: Action is vastly preferred, but I'll prose if you want. Just be warned - prose tags take me a lot longer.
Summary: Yosuke arrives! Derping ensues.
Warnings: Swearing!

Room 2-14

[Yosuke's never been quick to wake up - unless it's someone waking him up in the middle of class. Laying in bed an extra few minutes is normal. What's not normal is the bed, the room, or anything about this place. And then panic ensues! What we end up with is one Yosuke trying his best to keep calm as he takes in these strange surroundings in a slight panic]

What the hell?! Who's idea of a joke is this!

Floor 14

[Yosuke - now dressed in his usual threads, headphones around his neck, has found his way to the entertainment room. He doesn't feel particularly jolly though, and rather than enjoy the entertainment he's sprawled on a couch, looking up and contemplating the last few hours of his life]

[Through the self pity and the contemplation, there's not a hell of a lot that could grab Yosuke's attention]

[An elf decked out in battle gear? That'll do it]

[He doesn't pay the newcomer much mind at first, until he notices himself being watched. Rather than take it creepily however, Yosuke's somewhat touched - as far as he's concerned it's probably just another person worrying about this distressed-looking newcomer. So he manages a wave at Link]

If you're worried, I'm okay. Just still adjusting to the whole my-home-might-be-gone thing.

[ Actually, she was kind of concerned, but she's pretty bad at the whole emotions and socialization thing ~~like a detective you might know~~. If Link is bothered by the heavy amount of armor, she's not showing it; she must be very used to carrying it all over with her. ]

... I see.

[ Pausing. Ah... what does she say? ]

For what small amount it is worth... there have been cases of one's friends arriving after them.

[ Link is a fighter, but she's also pretty quick. If her theory is right, that means their worlds can't be gone. ]

Yeah?

[And now he feels like an idiot - he hadn't even considered that his friends might show up after him. If he'd thought about it he would've realized it, but his emotions got in the way. ... not that he can blame himself for that one]

[But anyway! Good news is good! And it gets him to smile]

That's a good point! There's still hope. I can't just sit here and mope forever.

[ Nod! That earns a small smile. Haha what is expressing yourself, really. But she is glad Yosuke has cheered up. ]

[ ... What is it with all you people and having two names, she feels weird. And while she's thinking of it... ]

There might be some difficulties, here. Are you armed?

[There's another thing that gets his attention. He had brought them out of habit more than anything, but Yosuke now looks unsure as he reaches into his pants and produces his daggers]

Yeah, I'm good. But what did you mean by difficulties, Link?

[ Well, let her consider it for a moment... how to explain it? ]

There are "experiments" and many creatures here that are immune or can cancel any magic or special abilities. They aren't present on all floors, but some of them are highly dangerous at night. It would be best to be cautious, even though you will be revived fairly quickly.

[ She's tried other means, bro. The phantoms here and even the local FAUNA are VICIOUS. ]

[Shit, they can cancel out magic? Some of the comfort he'd felt when he realized he still felt Susano-o's presence vanishes. But he keeps himself calm. There've been shadows immune to his abilities before. He can just compensate! He's still quick on his feet, and he has his knives - plus he can still heal people]

[Okay. Calm down. He can work with this]

What about the dorm rooms? Are those more or less safe, or do I need to watch my ass 24/7?

[ She has NO idea what half your slang means, Brosuke, but... ]

No, you do not. There are a few more dangerous floors than the rest.

[ She supposes she ought to say a bit more--or at least offer to help? ~~And maybe get a piece of heart--~~ ]

I can answer what I know, if you would like.

[ Even though she heard him say his name, it's... odd, to her. Is Yosuke a title? Or is it his first name? There are quite a few innate problems with being a forest child. ]

[It's okay, they can have Slang 101 some other time]

[For now, Yosuke's just going to be happy that he found a bro so willing to help him out right off the bat]

Well, why don't we start with the places to avoid going alone? I don't mind a little danger, but I'm not crazy about getting torn to pieces either.

[ Well, it's a brotag thing, man. Look at Souji! She looks thoughtful for a moment, before pulling out a piece of parchment.

... Blank, ye olde style map, yeah. Link sure has been trying to fill it out some. ]

If I recall, the most dangerous places have been Floor 11 at night time due to the Phantoms, Floor 17 I would avoid completely at all costs, and Floor 6 is dangerous if you leave the stairs.

[ She isn't sure about the others because even for a dungeon crawler like her, she didn't feel safe going alone in some of the... odder... places. ]

There are terminals in most places, though I confess that I am not the best person to ask about... technology.

[Technology, huh? Now there's something he can do! Though it's not surprising hearing that it's Link's Achilles heel - most people in the digital era don't carry around a bow and arrows]

That's something I can help with, if you want. I'm pretty good with technology.

But that aside... I wonder if we should put together exploration parties or something. Even if it's dangerous, it might not be so bad with a group.

[ Yosuke, she blew up the first terminal she saw. Of course, chickens do not belong on keyboards and beeping was bound to ensue, so she kind of put an arrow in it.

Let us hope you are REALLY good at teaching people. ]

That may not be a bad idea. I'd be willing to help.

[ Link kind of screams "hi I go into dungeons all the time", anyway, so going into the unknown was nothing new. ]

[As long as she doesn't blow up his MP3 player, he can be patient. Probably]

Really? Alright, then you'll be the first person I find if I start seriously planning something. [~~okay second or Naoto will lineface forever~~]

[He pauses for a moment as something occurs to him]

Jeez, listen to me. I almost sound like some kind of leader. I guess Souji rubbed off on me more than I thought.

[ ~~I make no promises~~ Oh she'll try not to, Brosuke. Don't worry.

Link is used to the lone wolf thing, to be honest, so it's odd to be doing stuff with anyone else, but there is one thing she DOES know... ]

Anyone can lead if they have the courage. It's not a gift everyone possesses, however.

[Anyone, huh? Is it something he really has the courage for? Yosuke can't help but second guess himself - he's the advisor type, right?]

[Stupid brain...]

What about you, Link? You ever had to wear the leader hat before?

... Me?

[ ... Ah. She's a bit modest, so she doesn't think she needs to state the whole "chosen" Hero of the Goddesses thing unless he asks directly. ]

Not very often, though I don't mind doing it. The task I was given was laid out in front of me, so there was not much direction needed. It wasn't meant for those who would rely on others, though I do have help at times, it mostly falls on my duty.

[ No one stays with her, aside from her horse and her fairy partner. The Sages work from afar, and Sheik... well. She'd never seen him stay anywhere at length. ]

... But you seem to be used to working in a group.

[Yosuke is conflicted. On the one hand, he's impressed - facing down most of anything alone, nevermind shenanigans that would require him to be heavily armed - is impressive. It really speaks to the strength Link has, both physically and mentally]

[But on the other hand... what's wrong with relying on others? Didn't they get so much accomplished as a group? Hell, they saved the damn world! Sure, no one knew about it, but it doesn't make it less awesome! So what if they needed to lean on each other sometimes?]

[He's not sure how to feel, and it shows in his demeanor - suddenly he's not quite looking at Link, or really at anything]

Yeah, back home I was part of a group.

[ Link doesn't think there's anything wrong with working with others, to be honest. It's just that... she is not allowed to have help, and there IS no help for her to have. What little help she gets is from a distance and fleeting, or a small fairy, or a horse. This was entirely her burden to shoulder. She feels awkward, now, herself, looking down. ]

... It must be nice, to have company.

[ There... might be just a tinge of sadness in her voice. ]

What are the ones you work with like?

[ Hurriedly, she tacks on something: ] ... I-if it's all right for me to ask.

[He's not sure why, but suddenly he feels like he's been a gigantic ass to Link. His awkwardness is suddenly of a different sort, as he tries to be more accommodating of his new pointy-eared friend]

Of- of course it's alright! Sorry, I uh... I guess I just got homesick for a minute.

[And here comes the list! Strap in Link, it's a doozy. But as he starts to go through it, his expression quickly softens and before long he's smiling brightly]

Souji's our leader, and the nicest guy you'll ever meet. He always seems to know just what to say and do, so I don't exactly mind following his orders. Then there's me, and after that Chie and Yukiko. Chie's got a hot head and a short temper, but she's the strongest person I know - you do not want to be on the wrong end of her kicks. Yukiko's usually quiet, but if you get her laughing she won't stop for at least five minutes.

Oh, right, I can't forget the bear. Teddie... well, he's interesting. He's still learning a lot, but I swear that bear flirts with anything even remotely female. Rise... well, she's energetic, sweet and outgoing - pretty much everything you'd expect from an idol. Kanji's tough and incredibly scary, but he's really not bad - he just doesn't want people ragging on him for what he likes. And as for what he likes, at the top of the list is one Naoto Shirogane, the detective price. Just being in the same room as Naoto makes me feel dumber in comparison.

[ It's okay, bro. Her best friend is a fairy that basically never stops talking animatedly, so she'll listen to the whole thing! ~~Good thing important points are always highlighted in red text!~~ ]

Your friends sound wonderful. I believe I'm acquainted with the last of them.

[ ... Heh. How she wishes Navi were here. Part of her is a bit envious, the friends she'd had... they didn't know her anymore. She couldn't be around them, because of this timeline. ]

It's good to hear you value your friendship with them. Division and mistrust breed ill, after all.

Value them? That's one way of putting it. I'd trust any one of them with my life.

[He sighs before turning his attention back to the present, giving Link a playful punch to the shoulder]

Though you seem like a pretty good guy yourself. Not that there was any doubt - if you're alright with Naoto, you're alright with me.

[ ahsdflhg punch! Haha, okay, she was not expecting that one, but have an amused smile. So this is what socializing is. It's kind of weird, to be honest. Usually people expect things out of her, without even asking.

.. Well, Yosuke seems pretty cool, at least. So she doesn't really mind being a little friendly, at least. Even if she's quiet by nature. ]

... You seem to know your way around weapons. If you don't mind me asking, what sort of thing is it you and your friends do?

[And there it is, the million dollar question. And there is absolutely nothing that's going to be easy to explain to Link. Time for super generalized answers!]

Ninety percent of the time we're just regular students going to school. The other ten percent, we fight monsters in another world and save people who become trapped there.

Oh, then we're alike in that regard.

[ Pausing. Hang on... for all the things she could pause on to think of, she accepts the "we save people from TVs" bit. But... ]

What are "students" and "school", though?

[ ... Yeah. That. Did I mention she grew up in a forest and was raised by a giant Tree with a mustache? ]

[The fact that Link fights monsters? Not terribly surprising, all things considered. You don't walk around that armed unless it's for a fight or cosplay, and... well, cosplayers sure as hell don't act like that]

[... but how the hell is he supposed to explain school?]

O...kay...

[He scratches the back of his head]

A school is a place people go to learn from teachers. History, math, reading - all the basic stuff. And a student is someone who goes to school to learn, not to teach.

MY LIFE. IT IS COMPLETE. ... MORE SO!
