Midsummer Bash

Characters: Lancer, the people he invited to the party, and everyone else who wants to stumble in
Setting: Floor 25, July 5, afternoon
Format: Open
Summary: Lancer throws a party for midsummer, since the Tower obviously needs a breather.
Warnings: None so far.

[To be honest, Lancer wanted to have the party in the evening, sometime around twilight. That would have been the most romantic time for it. Unfortunately, when in the Tower, one had to account for things like monsters. As a result, he had to hold it during the afternoon. But it wasn't too bad of a compromise.]

[This was, of course, a more simple affair than Diarmuid's birthday. For food, he had hauled a couple of tables up here and lined the table with dinner food. The centerpiece was a cake which had a heart drawn on it in red frosting. In one corner of the meadow, he had used some boxes and tarp to make some sort of booth where people could hide from the sun (and steal kisses off of each other). In the center of the meadow, he had piled a large stack of wood, perfect for lighting a bonfire by the party's end. The structures had all been surrounded with wreaths made from the meadow's flowers.]

[As soon as he's done with the setup, Lancer will sit down next to the firewood pile, waiting for people to come.]

...Come again?

[Morty would be the first one to admit that he was completely distracted by the fire. It's very difficult to look at one for a long time and not manage to slip at least a little bit into a trance. The sight of it was comforting to him, too, in a way; a very similar ritual was always held in Ecruteak City around this time, a massive fire burned in the central plaza with various spiced logs thrown into it. The idea was that they were burning sacrifices to the sun god Ho-oh, and of course he cared very much about that, but the sight was one that wouldn't soon leave him for sentimental reasons.]

[However, he'd been snapped out of his reverie by Enoch's speech, thinking that the man had said something to him.]

*Enoch glanced over at him when he spoke, not realizing anyone was close enough to hear him.*

Ah...I'm sorry, I was talking to myself. I just think...we'll get through all of this.

[Small smile from Morty.]

That's a nice sentiment.

I think we will too, though... just from small reprieves like this.

Yes. What is having a time limit but the normal state of things? We can do what we need to do, and overcome it, and not lose our ability to enjoy days like this.

*He smiles a bit wistfully up at the fire.* I've never seen a bonfire built quite so high.

*Of course, it wasn't as disjointed as it sounded. That fire...well, the correlation to them in his mind should be fairly obvious. Zo had a tendency to find strong people, and now that would be coming into play more than ever.*

I have... it was a ritual, every year, in my hometown. We made large fires like this as a celebration of the sun god. People would throw sacrifices into the fires, if they had any.

[And the derpsmile turns to the fire.]

Ah... It's something I've seen in many places; fire as an agent of the mystical and sacred. Considering how important it is, I couldn't say it's unfounded.

Yes. It's interesting, isn't it, how even across universes, so many common threads remain in the form of deities? [Notice how he didn't say "myths and legends". This dude believes it %100.]

*Enoch's "mystical and sacred" hadn't implied a lack of belief, himself; burning sacrifices was still practiced in his time and he was brought up a priest. And other societies with other gods are nothing new to him, the only difference in regards to other worlds is that in other worlds it might be real exactly as worshiped.*

Fire is essential to our life. I might even call it God's greatest gift aside from our free will. Or, ah...the gift of any gods of your world.

*He's getting better at minding other peoples' worlds.*

...Do you have only one?

[Morty looks over, curiosity taking over. He loves learning about pretty much everything, and other world's pantheons are not exempt from the rule. After all, different universes can have different gods -- you can still believe in your own while listening to people talk about theirs.]
warriorscribe: (No problem. Everything's fine.)

*Enoch is the same way; he rather enjoyed hearing creation stories from other worlds when he was in Meridian.

He nods in response.* He has many names, but most simply call him "God". Some worship His individual aspects as separate gods, but He is personally removed from the world, so it is only inevitable they don't realize it is all the work of one being.
