Midsummer Bash

Setting: Floor 25, July 5, afternoon
Format: Open
Summary: Lancer throws a party for midsummer, since the Tower obviously needs a breather.
Warnings: None so far.

[To be honest, Lancer wanted to have the party in the evening, sometime around twilight. That would have been the most romantic time for it. Unfortunately, when in the Tower, one had to account for things like monsters. As a result, he had to hold it during the afternoon. But it wasn't too bad of a compromise.]

[This was, of course, a more simple affair than Diarmuid's birthday. For food, he had hauled a couple of tables up here and lined the table with dinner food. The centerpiece was a cake which had a heart drawn on it in red frosting. In one corner of the meadow, he had used some boxes and tarp to make some sort of booth where people could hide from the sun (and steal kisses off of each other). In the center of the meadow, he had piled a large stack of wood, perfect for lighting a bonfire by the party's end. The structures had all been surrounded with wreaths made from the meadow's flowers.]

[As soon as he's done with the setup, Lancer will sit down next to the firewood pile, waiting for people to come.]

Pre-party preparations

[If someone comes in early enough, they can catch sight of Lancer hurrying to put up the decorations, the kissing booth, and the tables.]

Food Table

[Cafeteria foods like hot dogs, hamburgers, and pizza line the tables. And there's a cake with a crooked heart drawn on it in frosting. One has to wonder who it's for.]

Kissing booth

[There's a shaded booth perfect for ducking out of the sun. And of course, one might feel just a little romantic sitting close with someone else under this booth...]

Mingle

[puppy_lancer]

[Of course, people are welcome to mingle with each other throughout the party. They can enjoy the sunshine and each other's company.]

Bonfire

[puppy_lancer]

[No midsummer party will be complete without a bonfire. And Lancer has built one. Early on, people can marvel at the size of the thing. Toward the end, Lancer will getting on top of the stack and calling out to the party.]

Alright, who wants to light this thing?

[And then he'll jump off. In case someone is too eager and tries to burn him too.]

[Sephiroth steps forward.]

I will light it.

[If you want something set on fire, Sephiroth's your man! Or, kid, in this case.]

[Lancer grabs a loose stick and draws an ansuz rune. The rune sets the tip of the stick ablaze with fire.]

Here you go. Be careful, though, kid.

Wallflowers

[And of course, every party has those who don't wanna mingle.]

[Sorry, Lancer, he doesn't need your fire. He nods at the stick politely and appreciatively, then casts his own spell, and the top of the stack suddenly bursts into flame. Though he's careful to make a small, controlled fire, so it won't burn too quickly.

He never misses a chance to use his Fire Materia.]

Woah!

[He throws his own torch into the fire.]

Another one of your spells, right?

[Sephiroth is pleased when Lancer seems impressed.]

Yes, that's right. It is my favorite.

[He enjoys setting things on fire, and he's already managed to master his Materia by using it so much.]

Your spell is also interesting. How does it work?

Ah, it's runic magic. You use these runes.

[He scribbles one in his hand and holds it up to Sephiroth. It's a glowing berkana rune.]

Different ones have different effects. Got anything like that in your place?

[pinnaculum]

[Oh, that is interesting. Sephiroth's eyes brighten.]

No, we do not. Can anyone use them?

As long as you've got the prana and can figure out what each one does and how to combine them.

[Needless to say, a certain prosecutor decided to stand alone in one corner of the meadow and watch over the rest of the crowd. Edgeworth generally abhorred parties. Too many people messing around and making fools of themselves. That, and he found social situations on a casual level very difficult at times.

In fact, the main reason that Edgeworth was there in the first place was that a certain childhood friend had guilt-tripped him into going.

So here he was, quite happily standing in his own little spot in the meadow, making sure that nobody caused any trouble. Drag him away people!]

I do have magical aptitude.

[Yay, learning useful things!]

Alright, you got a day for us to meet? Might take a while for you to learn.

[pinnaculum]

[Sephiroth isn't one for parties. Not at all, in fact, but he had been invited, and accepting the invitation was the proper thing to do. Now that he's here, he might as well be polite. For that is what one does at parties, and he has been well-schooled in manners.

He hasn't been spending much time around other people lately, having given up social interaction in favor of killing monsters following recent events, but he is nonetheless willing to speak to others.

He's not particularly friendly, or the least bit warm, but that doesn't stop him from formally inclining his head and addressing those he comes across.]

I can meet any day you would like.

I am willing to take the time to learn.

[Although he thinks of himself as a very fast learner.]

Then here's hoping you master all eighteen!

[He reaches out to fluff the child's hair.]

[Yotsuba, having received word of the party from Enoch, had come, since she knew how much fun festivals and parties could be. When she saw that cake though, she couldn't help but wander over to the food table, her eyes glittering a little. Oh, she wanted to eat it, since it looked super yummy, but..she wasn't sure if she could! So, she would turn to the first person she saw and call out to them, smiling.]

Oh..can Yotsuba eat the cake? It looks super yummy!

I will.

[He's nothing if not confident. He's not used to having his hair ruffled, but he remains still while Lancer does so, looking up at him.]

So...how've you been lately, kid? Monsters haven't been giving you any trouble?

[Since apparently, people were turning into monsters last month.]

[pinnaculum]

I am well. No, I have been killing a great many of them.

[Even if Sephiroth did have some trouble, he wasn't likely to admit it. It wasn't as if all the monsters in the Tower were easy for him to kill, but with his arsenal and his healing magic, not to mention his ability to escape any battle, he was quite well-equipped to face them.]

I did not become a monster as others did. And you?

Ah, I was fine. Kinda...busy with some stuff.

[Busy moping, he means]
