Figures... didn't think I'd see him here from the get go.

[ But he pauses, glancing back at Fran. ]

If you'd pardon my saying, don't think we've met. Are you new?

Comparatively. This... competition marks my third week.

[ She returns his glance. ] Yourself?

Prolly came in a week before they threw us into the labyrinth. Can't say I rightly know how long I've been here now that I think about it.

[ Pausing to tilt his head slightly. ]

What do you reckon they've got on the schedule for us this time?

[ Her brows arch. Labyrinth? ]

A test of endurance. The layout of this place is not as it appears.

[ At this, he glances around the common room and very briefly into the rooms he can look into.

But he flinches slightly. Those rooms unnerve him already. ]

...I'd wager you'd be right on that call. Either that or they're just trying to see which one of us goes absolutely barmy first.

[ 'Barmy.' A foreign word, though she can guess its meaning. ]

You spoke of a labyrinth.

That's right. Last thing they threw me into here. Made us fight each other to the death.

[ There's a slight shudder there. ]

Not something I'd rightly want to go through again, thanks.

[ She flat out stares at him for a second or two, then shakes her head and looks back to the rest of the room. ]

I'm sorry.

One can hope what transpires here will not be so gruesome.

You're telling me. Had enough of that, administrators of the tower can just bugger themselves up the arse.

[ Because really, he had no beef with anyone in this tower and he rather liked not picking fights for no reason. But he glances back at Fran for a moment. ]

The name's Ronald, by the way. Ronald Knox of London's Dispatch. You are...?

Fran, of no loyalties save the sky. [ Ha ha.

And because idle chatter is a welcomed distraction: ] What is your position? Or was, as the case may be.

[ And folding his arms behind his head now as he leans against the wall. ]

Miss Fran then? Pleasure to meet you. I was a field officer back home. Course, my boss is here so not much of a change of occupation rather a change of location, eh?

[ Her brows rise a fraction. He looked like no field officer she had ever seen. ]

And is that a good thing?

Prolly. Prolly not.

[ Glancing back at her. ]

I mean... he's not too bad but I'd rather he not be here, you know? He's... been shuffled off somewhere else.

[ She nods. ] I understand.

[ She does. Balthier would be small comfort in a place like this, but she has wished for a familiar face since arriving. ]
