The fog descends

Summary: SHADOW EVENT IS LIVE! But basically, Izanami sends out her fog and that creates Shadows that then cause trouble
Warnings: LOTS of personal issues!!!

[Disappointment. Izanami had never felt it as strongly. To watch the other residents struggle with themselves, with the parts they deny, strength faltering. It's too much. So, the goddess has decided, it's time for them to receive a little push.

She'd gone to the cafeteria in the dead of night, just around when midnight would be. And then it's simple--to just allow the fog to spill out and cover the tower, filling every nook and cranny it can find. With it will come the Shadows, and her fellow prisoners will be forced to face themselves and grow, realize their potential or die.

It will certainly be interesting to watch.]

I'm still curious about what happened, but I'm not shore why you're dredging it up right now. Did somefin happen to make you think now's the right time?

I've wanted to air it out between us. You did say you needed to trust your moirail, after all! It's just been eatin' at me and I would be so hurt if you found out through someone else! After what you've been through, I don't want to see you go through any more, even if it's at the cost a' friendship or anythin' a' the sort.

[The shadow loses some of its cheer. This is a serious topic, after all]

Well, I got upset. In my deepest moments of despair I tried to go ally myself with Noir to at least, save myself. I wanted to take you with me, but you got upset and refused. Sollux got involved, an' I fought him. Thought I killed him, too. Naturally, you sprung into action, attempting to fight me as well and well...

I killed you.

I went after Kanaya too... shot her with my science and destroyed the matriorb. It was all a blur, my feelin's were a mix a jealousy an' despair an' above all... I was wrong.

I'm sorry I didn't mention it to you before, Fef. If there is anyhting I can ever do to make it up to you, please, don't hesitate to let me know.

[Feferi is silent as Eridan speaks. It all rings true, in a way that makes her stomach turn. The - so calm it's eerie - tone in which it's being told doesn't help.

Sollux, Kanaya, the matriorb...and herself.

She doesn't realize it when her hands ball themselves up into fists, when her vision goes blurry, when those tears finally fall.]

How can you be so calm when you're saying this? You're admitting you killed off every little bit of hope we might have had. You're saying you killed me, and Sollux, and Kanaya. And you're too damn calm about it.

[She's so tense and upset she's shaking, and her voice cracks when she tries speaking again.]

That's what I don't get. How are you so fucking calm when you're saying it?
You're talking about killing people. You're talking about killing me.

[She looks back and forth between them.]

-- not know. I thought I was talking with you, but things weren't right! How can you keep calm when you're explaining stuff like what happened back home? It's creepy...

I was gonna tell you... I knew it'd be hittin' you hard so I didn't want to do it when you were lookin' like you were about to fly off the handle. Guess he went an' ruined it.

[He walks closer to the shadow. Oh, he was PISSED.]

You've got nerve, flounderin' your way into my business. Got anythin' to say for yourself?

[The shadow's smile returns when the real Eridan makes his appearance. It remains calm, but his tone has become much, much more unsettling. Especially when the real deal keeps poking him in the stomach, to which the shadow brushes it aside.]

Now now, no need to get like that. It's your business too. Certainly enough to qualify you to be in clubs with us, no? I'm sure you and her got some differences you could settle out with me involved.

[cullscuttlefish]

[More silence, followed by Feferi tensing up at that smile. And that tone of voice.]

...that's a conchversation for a little bit later. Right now, I just - I don't need a glubbing auspice right now. And even if I did? You -- [she points at the Shadow] -- are the last perchson I would ever. Ever. Trust in that role.

[Okay, Eridan's really, really not liking him right now.]

[and with that, the shadow lets out a small, but extremely pointed chuckle. These next words, were sure to sting.]

Of course I know who you are. I am you, after all.

The truth is, I don't care what your feelins are for her. I know what they are, after all. All she is, is a tool to you. A means to a' end. I, however, care.
[Eridan looks like he's about to say something, but the shadow hushes him immediately.]
Don't waste your breath.. the only one your words are foolin' is yourself.

You don't care about anyone but yourself, Eridan.. Only the minimal amount required to get what you want.
[And the shadow then turns to Feferi]
Don't you feel, so, so used, Feferi? We both deserve a better person in our pale quadrants than this guy.

You know what?

[She takes a deep breath, wiping at her eyes.]

I don't. Because I don't need someone who's going to treat me with false sincerity. I'd rather have someone who's trying to really be a better person. It doesn't happen in an instant. There's a long way to go. But I'm right there with him.

[Those words... they filled Eridan with something. Hope, I believe it was called. He goes to stand by Feferi, feeling a friendship renewed.]

You... you mean it? Even after everything?

[and then, Eridan turns back to his shadow.]

As for you, stop treatin' her with that whole... fuckin' fakey fake kindness. It's almost as fake as you are. You know what you are?

[Now the shadow can't even keep up its facade. It's cackling outright, showing just how much it does not care. And then he calms down, if only for just a moment. His tone, still remaining sinister.]

Me? Fake? Please, you're only acting like this for your own survival. You're only acting good because you're scared. You don't genuinely mean it. You don't mean any of it. The only way to change, is to Accept me. But of course, you're never going to do that. You'd have to admit you're wrong. You're pretty pathetic, you know that? You can't even accept that I am a part of you.
[He laughs once more.]
Looks like I'll just have to make you accept it, Eridan.

[LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE JUST ORDERED A STUPID LOOKING BOSS! SEAHORSE MCWIZARDINGTON RIDING A CHARIOT. Yes, that seahorse is holding a wand. And has a beard. and a wizard hat.]

[Shit. It's like what happened with her all over again.]

[and Eridan couldn't be more thankful that the faker revealed himself. Why did it have to be one more of those fuckin' things, though?]

Ugh, seriously? I wanted to get through this without another dumb fuckin' battle. Ah well, good thing I've learned to come prepared in this place.
[He pulls the Ahab's Crosshairs off his back, and takes aim at the shadow.]

Oh well, I got so much hope right now that I could easily fuckin' blast this guy with it.

[and with that he pulls the trigger. A blast of laser to the face. If you can call what it has a face. It looks more hat than face...It looks like that didn't do much to it.]

[Feferi's glad she happened to have her trident with her that day. She gets in a few jabs and hits, doing some damage - but not much.

All right, time to try something else. She really needs to name this thing that she's been doing, once things calm down.]

Get some distance on it, I've got an idea - and when I'm in the air, shoot at it.

[With that, she jumps, planting her trident into the floor. She takes a second jump off the top tines, spinning. As she spins, a pair of water jets hit the shadow in the face.]

[As he's running, he looks back and sees Feferi doing her water-y thing. Eridan's kind of... stunned at what the hell just happened. HOW DID SHE DO THAT. Don't tell me shes' doing magic bullshit too but that's just SO COOL. Though the water does help, as the shadow roars at the impact. This brings Eridan back to reality, and he pulls the trigger, sending another laser Seahorse McWizardington's way]

[Feferi wouldn't call it magic. She'd just say she'd been practicing a whole lot of soccer with magic soccer kids and the practice just got her in tune with the energy around her. It had all been a matter of channeling it properly.

Once she lands, kicking her trident back into her hands, she turns back and grins, then goes back to her usual attack pattern.]

Fef, What was that just now? That cool thing you just did.

[He's honestly curious. That was pretty cool. Then he continues his own attack... though that gun is getting weaker and weaker the more he fires. Gotta recharge that shit sometime, son!]
