Characters: Amberley Vail and You!
Setting: Cafeteria and the Library
Format: Actionspam
Summary: Amberley's poking around and trying to gather information, all while playing it as safe as possible.
Warnings: The thread with Tohko has gracious amounts of talk of murder and other grimdarkness that comes with the verse.

Cafeteria: [ Amberley's got a big plate of something unidentifiable in front of her and she is grossed out. Is this the kind of stuff that the Imperial Guard eats on a daily basis? Maybe her expensive lifestyle had caught up to her, but she hardly doubted she could stomach what was in front of her.

Then again, if she didn't eat at all, she would grow weak. In a new place, this was unthinkable. So very slowly, Amberley tries to make her way through the meal. ]

Library: [ What better way is there to gain knowledge than through reading? Amberley's draped on a chair with a huge stack of books, reading at a pretty good pace. Occasionally, she'll nod and hum to herself, but other than that, she's completely lost in her reading. ]

[ She set the book down and folded her hands in front of her. ]

If you wouldn't mind, I'd be happy to hear anything that you have to share. Oh! I'm Amberley by the way. Amberley Vail.

Ah, it's nice to meet you, Amberley! I'm Tohko Amano, the book girl.

[Tohko then nodded and thought to herself as she gave her usual infodump.]

This Tower is called Animus. As far as I know, four people run it: Dax, who is a pretty humane person, Jason, who likes to torture and experiment on the residents, Riki, a secretive fellow who manages the records, and Ruana, a childlike person who has lived for thousands of years and has some interesting powers. She sees her experiments as nothing more than fun games. They will lie to you, so take everything they say with a grain of salt.

If you haven't been to the cafeteria yet, make sure you eat the oatmeal. I know it tastes terrible, but if you don't eat it first, you'll throw up whatever else you try to eat. However, you can add things to improve the taste, and you can eat whatever you want once you're done!

Monsters roam the halls at night. They don't come in the dorm floors, but if you want to be safe and can't fight, you had better start learning from someone. Death is also not permanent here. If you die, you will just wake up in your bed the next day, but if you die too many times, I'm sure you'll get punished, so be careful.

[Tohko then nodded to herself.]

And that's everything!

[ Amberley makes a mental note of all of this, which isn't hard for her considering her augmented intelligence. She does laugh on the inside when Tohko mentioned not being able to fight. Amberley wondered how she would react to the bolt pistol in her chest by her bed. ]

While that is limited, I have worked on less before. I have to thank you, Ms. Tohko. It's much easier to understand what kind of situation I'm in with that information at hand.

[ Honestly, it all sounds pretty boring to her, but at least she can shoot monsters at night as a kind of makeshift target practice. ]

Oh, you're welcome! I'm glad I could help you out..and I know that it isn't much. The Administrators keep most of it hidden away and we have to chip and break it off piece by piece. But I'll sure we'll find out everything about this place soon.

I'm certain I can help! After all, that's part of a remembrancer's job.

[ She's lying, but she's not going to swing around the fact that she's an Inquisitor. Either way, both deal in knowledge and how to acquire it, so it isn't too farfetched. She's just leaving out the idea that she knows how to carry out violence. ]

[Tohko looked a bit puzzled at that.]

What's a remembrancer? A person that helps others remember with magic?

[ Magic? Does this mean this little girl was a Chaos cultist? Granted, it was easy for them to disguise themselves, but Amberley had been caught completely off guard. Good thing she had chosen to keep her identity a secret. She'd probably be dead if she had let it slip that she's an Inquisitor.

For now, Amberley decides to play it cool. But she'll be watching you, Tohko. ]

Oh, no, nothing that fancy. I just keep records of historical events.

[Which is funny, as Tohko only picked apart the term by looking at it. She's a book girl, not someone dangerous. Provided you don't attack her or her friends. However, that puzzled look doesn't go away.]

Then why not just call yourself a historian? Why 'remembrancer'?

[ Amberley will probably learn that in time, but in her verse, magic is always a bad thing. In fact even mentioning magic or witchcraft often causes the more delicate to faint. ]

A historian? That's such a funny word. Is that a word from your world?

[ You totally lost her there. ]

[Tohko smiled and nodded.]

Yes. It means one who studies and records history. Since we're from different universes, I guess there are things that don't quite cross over.

I suppose so! But if it's easier for you to think of me as a historian, please do so.

It may be easier..but it won't be the truth. Please, tell me what a remembrancer is!

Ah, well, it's like I said. We keep records of historical events, though they're mostly records of combat situations on different planets. Then we either publish or file them for different branches of the Imperium to read them if need be. After all, if we can learn from past mistakes, we'll be closer to winning the war that stretches all through the universe.

[ Personally, she highly doubts that anyone's winning this war that's spanned on for tens of thousands of years. But she isn't going to say that, it would be unprofessional of her. ]

Ah, I see..who's the Imperium? You're government? And why do you want to win the war? Why did it even start up in the first place?

The Imperium is more accurately described as our military. As for winning, it's more of a matter of purging anyone that doesn't follow the Emperor. This mostly includes humans that have strayed from the Emperor and different alien races.

As to why it started in the first place... that's lost even to a remembrancer like me. There are no records of the beginning of the war.

[ Amberley says all of this really casually since really, it's just part of her life by now. In fact, Amberley can't even imagine a universe without war. ]

[Tohko sighed and scratched her head.]

That sounds pretty terrible. What's wrong with not following the Emperor? It's not worth killing people over and waging a war, especially if no one can remember even why it started.

I suppose it's not agreeable to all, but I'm very loyal to the Emperor. Besides, it would take more than one person to stop a war of such a large scale.

[ This is a very polite way of Amberley trying to tell Tohko that she's overstepping her boundaries. Her voice sounds a bit harsher than it's normal bubbly tone as well. ]

It may take more than one person..but I'm sure quite a few people can stand up to the Emperor and tell him to stop the war and to stop killing people just because they don't agree with him. After all..while you're loyal to him, I don't think you're happy about a lot of death either, are you?

[ Amberley smiles, but that is not a friendly smile at all. She thinks about a lot of people above and under her in the Inquisition and in other branches of the Imperium that would kill someone on sight for that comment. Instead, she decides to take a nod from the person who easily means the most to her. ]

If a friend of mine were here, he would remind you that speaking that way is akin to signing your own death sentence. Other people from my universe would simply shoot you on sight. Not that death lasts here, but it still sounds like it should be avoided. Luckily, I'm not them, but if you meet anyone else from the 41st millenium I suggest that you be a bit more careful with what you say.

(ooc: I would of course, ask permission before injuring or killing your character! This is just an IC warning because everyone from her universe is a bigot in one way or another, orz.)

(ooc: Ah, it's fine! Don't worry about it! ^^; There are a lot of people here from terrible universes, and Tohko has met plenty of terrible people, so she knows what that's like..she's just incredibly stubborn. xD;)

So even speaking against him is worth being killed? But..that's pretty terrible. Why does the Emperor in your universe allow such things, and why do you go along with it? And..I think you mean the forty-first millennium in your universe. There are probably a couple of people from longer points in time that don't have the same things you do.

It's just the way it is. We don't have the right to question the Emperor.

Though, like I said, you should be more careful, life is a gift that shouldn't be wasted.

[ Amberley's really not open to arguing about it. She doesn't want to let in the warp, after all. ]

But..you have the right to question him if you think he's wrong, especially when it's hurting others.

And don't worry, I'll be careful..and it's because it's so important that the Emperor shouldn't just be killing off people simply for saying a few words against him.

[Tohko smiles at that.]

He isn't hurting others. The Emperor protects, however, other humans do not.

But if the Emperor is ordering people to kill others that don't agree with him and having them participate in a war that no one can remember why it started, then that's rather cruel of him. That's not protecting.

He isn't making them. I mean, if people really wish to, they can go off and join one of the chaos cults or become a xenos empathizer. But they're doing much more harm than the Imperium could ever do.

[ She makes the sign of the aquila while saying that because implying the Emperor would ever do wrong is borderline heresy. ]
