Summary: Rei shows Ryoji how to kill monsters

Night, a time when many have already returned to their rooms for fear of the monsters roaming around. One solitary figure, though, remains outside, rocking on her heels, humming a cheerful song to herself. It seems normal enough for a girl her age, but is a little at odds with her frigidly beautiful appearance and the dark surroundings. She seems to hold no fear for the monsters, though she does take care to avoid their attacks.

It is no accident that she is out here at this time. She promised to show someone something. In a way, this is for her a ritual of bonding. Thus, she will not touch the monsters. Not until her partner arrives.

When Ryoji arrives, he will find her waiting still. Alone, unarmed, but beaming.

[terreifying]

"You can learn here. There's always people cooking something."

She starts walking toward the elevator.

[notsogrimreaper]

Ryoji follows after, willingly now after he's cheered up. Rei certainly was nice enough. She just had some stranger ideas of fun sometimes.

"I'll have to keep an eye out for someone to teach me."

[terreifying]

"I'm sure you'll be able to find someone easily."

Having arrived at the elevator door, Rei presses the "Down" button several times in a row.

[notsogrimreaper]

Ryoji smiles a little at the impatience, and then waits, wondering what else to talk about.

[terreifying]

"Hey."

Rei starts again.

"Where'd you get your scarf? It's kinda cool. Looks like Kamen Rider."

[notsogrimreaper]

"Oh, this? I... really don't know. I guess it kind of just showed up with me when I got this form."

[terreifying]

"Cool! You can make clothes with you when you change shape? I always end up naked."

[notsogrimreaper]

"Er, I-I guess so? You s-shouldn't change shape here!"

Ryoji immediately reddens at the thought of the girl beside him nude.

[terreifying]

"That's awesome. Can you make different clothes too?"

She slowly shakes her head.

"Of course I'm not shapeshifting here. I only shift as I need to."

[notsogrimreaper]

"I don't think so... I've never really tried, though."

Ryoji gives Rei a curious look.

"And... when do you need to?"

[terreifying]

"Oh, usually only to sneak somewhere. Or if I run into a really strong monster."

[notsogrimreaper]

"Right. What can you turn into?"

From the way she's talking, it sounds a bit like she can take many different forms.

[terreifying]

She winces a little bit at that. Besides this human form and her true form of a constantly shifting white mass, every other form was temporary at best.

"Uh...I don't know yet. I know I can make bits of me go flat, though."

[notsogrimreaper]

"Flat? Oh, so you could probably make yourself skinnier, to slip through cracks. Is that right?"

It's not what Ryoji was expecting when Rei said she had other forms, but at least it's useful, and probably not dangerous.

[terreifying]

"Yep! It's useful for going through air vents."

She takes a slightly wistful look at the top of the elevator. There are no air vents in the Tower.

[notsogrimreaper]

"Oh cool! It's like you're a spy!"

Spies were awesome, based on the few movie clips Ryoji remembers seeing.

[terreifying]

"Yeah. I'm a spy for great justice!"

[notsogrimreaper]

"I could be your secret agent partner!"

[terreifying]

"And we'd hunt down all the bad guys. We could be like the Avengers."

[notsogrimreaper]

"The Avengers? Who are they?"

[terreifying]

"Well, they're a really popular team of superheroes...and they're a really popular pair of secret agents. It depends on what you're watching. We'll be the secret agent Avengers."

[notsogrimreaper]

"Okay, sure! We can be the Avengers, then."

It sounds silly, but Ryoji is a little happy to play pretend once in a while.

[terreifying]

"We'll have to call each other Mr. and Mrs. then. Since it's what the secret agents do."

[notsogrimreaper]

"Huh? Are you sure? That makes it sound like we're married."

[terreifying]

"Then I can be a Miss. I'm not married to anybody."

Besides, you only married people who you loved, and Rei already had people who she loved.
