A few minutes before anything happens, Ruana's voice rings out over the Tower's intercom--it manages to be louder than anything the residents happen to be doing. "Hey, everyone, there's something exciting going on at floor fifty-six! Go make sure they don't get themselves killed!"


You arrive, stepping or tumbling, in a surgical suite. It looks abandoned, with dust collecting on the table and floors. The lights flicker, and for a moment blood dripping off the table, puddling on the floor--but no, the lights are back, and surely that was your imagination. It's quiet, eerily so, but nothing hinders you, and you're free to spread out and explore. There are multiple rooms here, like in any hospital, and it's all a bit confusing. Occasionally the lights flicker, and it's a bit frightening as Things appear that shouldn't exist. Shadowy creatures stitched together and reaching for you, doctors brandishing phantom surgical tools, blood splattering the walls or floor or ceiling, how did it get there--but none are real, and all of them vanish when the lights return. Eventually you find the staircase, spiraling up and down into darkness. Approach it, though, and the thing glitters with a barrier that will push back any attempts at climbing the thing.

A girl, a teenager dressed in red and black, appears. And she does simply appear, inserting herself into the space, nearly pushing it aside to make room in it for where she is now. Her face beams with unconcealed excitement, and her words tumble out on top of themselves. "You can't go there! Yet, I mean. You'd all die!"

The girl steps onto the staircase, passing through the barrier as if it weren't there, and sits on the steps to address everyone. "Hi! I'm Ruana. You didn't show up the normal way, so the Tower can't support you yet. We got this one floor ready when I saw you were coming but, well, the Tower's kind've big, so getting all of them set up is taking a little longer than I thought." She smiles, sheepishly apologetic in a carefree sort of way. "I've got everyone coming here to visit you--or at least they know they can visit you--and I'll have someone bring food up for you. It'll be oatmeal, and oatmeal is super boring, but you have to eat it, okay? Then you can have whatever you want! The cafeteria's down on the first floor if you get hungry. We should have everything ready in a few hours. I've gotta go help with that, so you guys wait here.

"Don't worry, the monsters can't get to this floor as long as that barrier is up."

And then she's gone, blinking out of existence. The barrier will remain for three hours.

Yeah. Yeah, um...

[A hesitant nod as his eyes dart over the images flickering around them, even though he knows perfectly well they aren't there.]

D-do you know what happened? I saw tht butterfly guy, and something about a crystal, and then...I'm here.

[booyaka_boom]

*Those things... Those things that Selphie is doing all in her power to ignore, but every so often she'll flich, hand reaching for the nunchaku laced around her neck. Then she'll close her eyes for a couple of seconds compose herself*

That's...pretty much all I know. We were there, and now we're here. I mean, I've moved worlds a couple of times but.. there's never been a mass movement of people. It's different this time.

[primordial]

Different, huh...

[A slight sniff as he turns back to her, noting how scared she is. Well, anyone normal would be, in a situation like this.]

How many of us are there?

[booyaka_boom]

*Probably a good job that she's too freaked out to even notice that sniff. Instead, she just shudders*

Uhm... I don't know.

[primordial]

Maybe give me an estimate? Like, how many have you met before finding me?

[Because if it was a mass-scale transportation, that certainly meant that he might have some possible allies to use around here instead of relying on the current inhabitants of the place.]

[booyaka_boom]

I haven't..spoken to anyone else yet. But I've seen a few. I was just looking for someone that I know..

*And really, she feels lucky that there was anyone round here she even recognised. Life hasn't been great of late*

And I was the first someone you knew, huh?

[Well, now, that wasn't good. Then again, Selphie maybe wasn't the type to have tons of friends, so maybe there were quite a number of people here already.]

...You have any idea where we are?

[booyaka_boom]

Yeah..

*That's the sad thing, she is so very much the type of person to have loads of friends. It just...hadn't really happened that way yet. She mentally shrugs that off, looking around*

Somewhere...gross?

[primordial]

Well, obviously.

[He gives the dirty surroundings a slightly disgusted look.]

Any idea who that girl was? Did you see her? The one dressed in red...

[booyaka_boom]

*Selphie bit her lip, daring herself to take a good look around*

Mmm... Yeah, I saw her. Like she was a ghost, or something..

I don't know, she looked too solid to be a ghost...

[Ghosts, demons, and horrible Lovecraftian abominations, oh my.]

Ruana, I think her name was?

[booyaka_boom]

She did.. but then she just kinda came and went. And she looked too good to be a zombie.

*And zombies? Oh my! Selphie looks up at Sam, curious*

Why? You recognise her somehow or something?

[primordial]

[A shake of the head.]

What? No! Definitely not, this is the first time I've seen her....I'm just wondering how she did that disappearing trick in the first place, that's all.

[booyaka_boom]

Yeah... It was pretty weird.

*Kind of cool actually, too, but Selphie keeps that to herself for now*

I wonder if it's a magic of some kind..

[primordial]

Maybe...hey, with Hinoto-Ri being what is it, I wouldn't be surprised if magic exists in other places too.

[booyaka_boom]

*Selphie gives Sam a long look before she realises that actually maybe that's something he doesn't know about her*

Well actually, magic exists here anyway, cause I'm here. I do magic.

Huh?

[He does seem quite surprised by that.]

You do? Really??

[booyaka_boom]

Yup!

*Selphie grins, a tendency to be a little proud of her abilities*

W-what do you do? Like, there must be different kinds of magic, right?

[booyaka_boom]

Pretty much everything. All different kinds of elemental magic, anyway. Fire, water, thunder, earth... *She lists them off on her fingers as she goes*

[primordial]

[OH GOD FIRE, NOT FIRE...better stay a bit cautious when it comes to that]

Fire? Water? Thunder, even? So, what, you could summon a thunderbolt to sizzle me on the spot, or what? How does it work?

[booyaka_boom]

Yup! I totally could! Or a big ball of fire and burn you to a crisp!

*How'd ya like that one, Sam? Of course, she's only being excitable!*

[primordial]

[INTERNAL SCREAMING]

I-I-I would rather that you not, please...

[booyaka_boom]

*Aww Sam, Selphie can't help but giggle*

Don't worry! I wouldn't! Unless you were being really mean to me, of course!

[primordial]

I-I would never be mean to you, never ever. Please don't do that...

[You've spooked him quite a bit, due to how he's shuddering at the thought of it.]
