9th Recipe - Surprise Banquet [Open]

Summary: Kazumi is running around trying to cook things for all the newcomers so they don't have to just eat what's on the menu! Also, stocking up the other kitchen
Warnings: None foreseen

[Cafeteria]

[A young girl with short hair is hurrying in and out of the kitchen, greeting various people and coming back out with various dishes. Anyone who isn't seated and eating yet, she'll approach, or if she knows you, she'll approach anyway! Newcomer or Tower Resident, she wants to make sure everyone can have what they want - the menu's not that bad this month, but everyone always has different preferences, right? Though, all the guests have to make sure they have their oatmeal first!]

Hi! Are you hungry? What can I get for you?

[Cafeteria Kitchen]

[There's about eight different things cooking in here at any one time as Kazumi runs in and out and cooks various things while working around the staff. She's doing surprisingly well considering how much is going on! But she looks like she's about to run herself ragged...]

[Floor 60 - Deluxe Kitchen]

[Later in the day, one might find Kazumi here... there's an enormous pile of foods here, mostly things like sacks of flour and sugar and so on, but also vegetables and fruits and meat. It looks like she basically stole everything out of the cafeteria...]

Ummm, now how to organize this...?

Heheh, thanks, that's a big help!

[While Touko cooked those, Kazumi was serving other things and running out distributing food and coming back]

I'm Kazumi, by the way! What's your name?

Oh, you're welcome! I'm always happy to help out!

[Pancakes, thankfully, didn't take much time at all to cook, so while she cooked those and tried to finish up with them, she replied to Kazumi.]

It's nice to meet you, Kazumi! I'm Tohko Amano, the book girl!

[With the finished things distributed and a couple new orders, Kazumi's back to cooking in the kitchen]

The book girl?

[The pancakes, thankfully, were all done, so Tohko was starting on the crepe fillings.]

Yup, the book girl!

[starofpleiades]

So you're like... a librarian?

[Excuse Kazumi while she runs those out to the person who asked for them, coming back for the answer]

[tohko_amano]

[At that, Tohko chuckled.]

Well, I am a librarian here, but even if I wasn't, I would still be the book girl. It's my title.

[starofpleiades]

A title, huh? What sort of thing does it mean then?

[tohko_amano]

It means that, in my universe, I love and know more about books than anyone else! After all, who else can tell you why Bulgakov burned his first draft of The Master and Margarita in despair, or how popular Kenji Miyazawa was when he was alive, or how strange the first draft of Peter Pan was, or how Peter Pan even came to exist!

And there aren't many people who have solved a murder-mystery using their wits, luck, and love of books, and there are even fewer who can claim that they've saved someone through books.

..So, that's why I'm the book girl.

Hahah, wow! That sounds really amazing. You really saved someone through books?

[Books kind of remind her of the bookmobile witch, but this sounds more like some kind of... magical librarian hero!]

[tohko_amano]

[Tohko chuckled at that, but while she kept smiling, to someone who was really good at reading smiles, hers would look a bit..sad.]

I did! It was rather scary though..one wrong word or move, and she would have died.

[She would have stopped listening to Tohko and shoved herself off, or, if Tohko and Konoha had lost their grip, she would have fallen and died.]

[starofpleiades]

[Kazumi isn't bad with that, but for someone she's just met it doesn't register with her immediately, though the words makes it more obvious]

Yeah, that can be scary... I'm really glad it worked out then.

[tohko_amano]

You and me both. Hopefully she's still alright back home.

[..Tohko couldn't help it. She patted Kazumi on the head and grinned.]

It sound like you've had to face something similar before though.

[starofpleiades]

[Kazumi just giggles a bit at the head pat; she doesn't mind at all]

Eheh... yeah, a little. My friends and I fight witches, so there's been some life-threatening situations!

[tohko_amano]

[Tohko looked a little puzzled at that.]

I'm sorry to hear that. That must be really horrid..but why do you fight witches? They're not all bad, I think.

[starofpleiades]

Um, well... where I come from, witches are beings born from despair that prey on humans and curse them. They're more like monsters than the kind of witches you hear about in story books...

[tohko_amano]

Oh, alright then. It must be pretty dangerous to fight them then..I'm sorry that you don't have anyone else around to help you. How are witches created from despair? If you knew how, you might be able to use joy to destroy them before they're born.

[starofpleiades]

Yeah, it can be pretty dangerous. But, I'm not alone - my friends and I work together to fight them, as magical girls!

[Kazumi's optimism withers though at the question about where witches come from.]

...magical girls are born from hopes and wishes, given magic and the duty to fight witches in exchange for a single wish. But when those girls use too much of their power and fall into despair... they become witches.

[tohko_amano]

[Okay, that earns you another headpat and a concerned look.]

But that means that, eventually, you and your friends will become witches too!

[She sighed.]

..Is there any way to reverse the process? There's a way to become a magical girl, so there has to be a way to undo it.

[starofpleiades]

[She nods]

It's... the fate of all Puella Magi.

[She shakes our head]

Not that we know of. My friends and I are looking for a way to put a stop to that system, but...

[tohko_amano]

[Tohko looked a little confused at the term, mainly because Kazumi was changing it on her.]

Puella Magi? I know what Magi means, but what does Puella mean?

[Tohko then sighed and gave Kazumi another headpat.]

Alright then. I wish you the best of luck in breaking down that system then! If there's any way I can help, let me know. How do you become magical girls anyway?

[starofpleiades]

Ah, well, it just means "girl", so it's just another way of saying "magical girl" really.

[She nods a little solemnly, glad for the support]

Well, we're offered a contract by a fairy, like Jyuubey or Kyuubey. In exchange for granting one wish, we would take on the task of fighting witches. They... never told us that we would become witches.

[tohko_amano]

Ah, alright then.

[Tohko nodded again, thinking.]

I'm sorry to hear that..that's pretty horrible. They're Woland-like characters then. They should have told you.

[Hang on here..Woland-like characters..Tohko would have to speak with Kyoko later. This sounded too familiar.]

But..if they can turn you into magical girls, maybe they know a way to reverse the process. Are they here in the Tower now?

[starofpleiades]

Woland? [She's never heard of that one]

They said there isn't one. And if there was, Umika would have extracted that from them.

Well, there's two Kyuubeys here. One is the normal kind that acts very coldly, and the other is the one who was given emotions. Fortunately, they can't make contracts here.

[tohko_amano]

Woland. He's a character from The Master and Margarita. He's basically the Devil, and pulls various cruel tricks on various people..but he's not a wholly terrible person, as he does some good.

[She then sighed.]

I see..maybe we can get the one who has emotions to help us. If the one without emotions was lying, then the one without emotions might tell the truth..or we could pick out his lies a bit easier. But it's good that they can't make any contracts here!

[starofpleiades]

Hmm... it's cruel, but I think that's because they don't have a concept of cruelty, really. I'm not sure about doing good either though...

Yeah, it's kind of hard to tell whether they're lying or not... since there's not much way to test it. There aren't even witches here either.
