Summary: Alucard's arrival has not made him happy.
Warnings: Thread is set at night. Monster attacks are a strong possibility.

This floor had a meadow. It was strangely pleasant, even in the darkness. But he was a stranger in this place and found himself on guard as he wandered the floor. He was not alone. He could see shadows moving in the distance. Nothing he couldn't handle, he told himself. Nothing that he couldn't destroy. Alucard had killed everything that his father had thrown at him. He'd easily do it again and again. Let the creatures lurking in the shadows come! He welcomed the challenge, anything to take his mind off of the fact that he was trapped in a foreign land. Kidnapped against his will.

The man would not allow himself to calm down. He wouldn't be contained. His father had made that mistake, hadn't he? And now, according to the people who had trapped Alucard here, he was dead. For good. He wouldn't believe it until he had absolute proof. After all, much of what he had seen so far indicated that he was being tricked. The large metal boxes with images on them were just one example of things that he wanted absolutely nothing to do with.

Though he had seen from the dormitories that there were many, many people in the tower itself, Alucard had noticed that there didn't seem to be any other people around. It was strange, especially for such a peaceful looking meadow. The only thing that he could hear was something that sounded like vague shuffling of bushes in the distance.

"Who's there?" he growled sharply.

Oddly enough, if Alucard had asked politely, Tohko probably would have let Alucard feed off her if he was really hungry. After all, she wasn't the only one with unusual appetites in this place. Tohko nodded her head before she replied.

"Alright then. It's nice to meet you, Alucard..and you don't have to call me miss! I'm Tohko Amano, the book girl."

Unfortunately, Alucard could never bring himself to do such a thing, filled with self loathing as he is. He'd sooner wither away than risk harming an innocent person. But the monsters that roamed the floors, when he became aware of them, would not be so lucky.

"It's nice to meet you, Tohko," he said, trying to take the edge out of his voice. "What is this place? This tower?" A prison, he reasoned. A place to control him and the other people within it. At least he could hide away in the dark, safe from the sunlight here. He was sure when dawn came that he would have to retreat to his assigned room, but at least he could leave at all.

Not that Tohko really minded if there was an edge there. She had dealt with tones like that before. However, at the question, she sighed.

"This is the Tower of Animus. The Tower of Souls. If you want me to tell you more, I can."

"The Tower of Souls," he repeated, hand moving to the scar on his chest. What a strange, ominous name. "How did it get such a name?" Being imprisoned in this place was bad enough, but if there was something unholy going on in this place... well, he wouldn't stand for it.

"Because when you were brought to this place, they took only your soul. The body you have right now is not your original one, but one made of recycled parts."

This information was horrible..but one had to know it if they were going to survive here.

Soul? But he had no soul. He was a creature of the night, a monster. He had lost his soul upon his transformation into a vampire. "I... do not understand," he said after a long pause, trying to take in the information. It certainly felt like his body. "What sort of beings are in charge of this tower?"

If you were in the Tower of Animus, then there was no doubt that you had a soul of some kind. At that question, Tohko sighed.

"All I can tell you is that they're not human and the majority of them don't understand human emotions or empathy. They're like something out of a Lovecraftian tale, if you know what that is."

He was familiar enough with creatures that lacked empathy to nod. Keeping them prisoner, then. Whatever magic had caused his world to die, it seemed that the people who had brought them did not have their best interests in mind. Not that he was surprised.

"I am not familiar with Lovecraftian tales," Alucard admitted. He supposed, though, that the creatures in such tales were fairly similar to monsters he had encounter before. If only he knew the truth.

In the distance, he heard more movement, raising his weapon once again. "There's something about this meadow."

The fact that this man wasn't familiar with Lovecraftian tales didn't surprise Tohko. It was something that only existed in her universe and universes similar to it, so the fact that he didn't know wasn't surprising.

It wouldn't stop her from putting a collection of Lovecraft's stories in his mailbox though, once she found out who he was.

"That's alright. It's something that exists mainly in my universe, so it's alright if you're not familiar with them. As long as you understand the type of person I'm talking about, than that's good enough."

When Tohko heard that rustling, one hand went to her dagger. The other got ready to snap in case she had to summon lightning.

"I hear it..if you want, I could illuminate the area so that we could have a better look at it."

If asked, he would give the name that the people in charge of the tower had assigned him. It was cruel irony that it was the name his corrupted father had given him upon his resurrection, but it was not something he would complain about. "Do so. So we know what we are facing," he said, trying to reflexively attack at the darkness. He didn't want to risk angering a person.

Or some large creature that he couldn't see.

Tohko nodded, concentrating on where she heard the noise. While Alucard might not see it, a large storm cloud was forming over the area.

"Alright..hang on."

Quickly, in her mind, she brought down the lightning, snapping her fingers as she did so. The light would illuminate anything that was there, giving it a mild shock in the process.

In the illuminated light stood a large, yellow bird. Broken and bloody, it was a miracle that the creature was able to walk at all. At the sudden bright light, it let out a terrible shriek and charged at Alucard. Seconds before being possibly trampled, Alucard reacted automatically, turning to miss just briefly enough for the broken creature to pass through him.

It stopped its charging, turning around to stare at the pair of them with large black eyes.

Tohko of course, moved a couple of steps away from the rampaging bird so that she didn't get hurt. Poor thing..it was probably only reacting in pain and anger.

"Alucard..do you think you could calm him down? I can get some kits from the infirmary and try to patch him up."

"I can try," Alucard said. The bird still seemed likely to attack, but he didn't want to harm the poor creature. This was not some vicious, dangerous monster as far as he was concerned. He approached it cautiously as it let out another angry screech, head lowered as though it was going to charge again, but still Alucard approached it. As a human, he had never been particularly good with animals, but if he could do one good thing here, he would try.

He moved, trying to put a hand to the bird's head. It responded with an angry noise, attempting to snap down on his hand. Again, Alucard was barely able to move out of the way, his speed on his side. "Unfriendly creature," he muttered.

As Tohko moved toward the stairs, she watched Alucard and sighed at his attempt to calm the bird down.

"It's just scared, that's all! Put your hand out and let it come to you. I'll be right back, so wait for me!"

Quickly, Tohko ran onto the stairs and headed down to the second floor before picking up a first aid kit and running back. Hopefully nothing horrible would happen in that span of time.

"All right," he said quietly, still watching the bird. He would keep his distance, for now. It seemed a little on the foolish side to get so close to an animal that was that injured, anyway.

So long as he kept his distance, he was certain that the animal would not attack again. He held out his hand, watching as the broken animal gave him a nervous look. Its battered wings fluttered slightly, probably as a warning. It let out an angry wark, one foot digging at the ground.

Tohko entered the floor again just in time to hear the angry cry that the bird let out. Sadly, she didn't have any fruit to give the bird..but maybe if she tried communicating with it, than it would let her get close.

So, carefully and slowly, Tohko walked toward the bird, calling out kind 'warks'.

Alucard watched the girl carefully. He would not be so lucky if the bird attacked a third time, and the last thing he wanted was for her to become injured. "Be careful," he told her, watching the bird to make sure that it was not about to attack her.

For Tohko, death was something that happened quite a bit, so she wasn't too worried about dying. However, she was careful in her approach.

"Don't worry..I will be."

As she walked towards the bird, Tohko carefully opened up the box and got out a roll of bandages, keeping her eyes on the bird as she did so.

The bird did not seem like it wanted her, or Alucard, anywhere near it. It let out another angry screech, eyes flashing between the two of them, as if to warn the two of them to stay away. "Perhaps light magic would be a better option," Alucard said, taking a step forward, not wanting Tohko to be injured.

Not that Tohko really minded whether she got injured. Death was one thing. Injury was quite another. However, she did stop and try to call out calmly to the bird before replying to Alucard.

"Sadly, I don't know any light magic. Do you?"

"No," Alucard replied rather quietly. Had he? He couldn't quite recall.

Meanwhile, the bird thrashed its head violently, legs digging at the ground in a definite warning.

"Then we're going to just have to help the bird with our mundane skills."

As the bird thrashed about and kicked at the ground, Tohko took a few steps back and to the side, trying to make herself look smaller. Maybe if she did that, then the bird would think that she was a less of a threat.

Even with the two of them trying to help it, it seemed that the bird did not want anything to do with them. It was probably the pain it was in that kept the bird from fleeing as it made a violent move towards Alucard. Its gaze flickered between him and Tohko, continuing to put on as threatening of a display as it could while still being badly mangled.

Tohko took a step back when the bird attacked again, but she did call out to Alucard.

"Alucard, are you alright?"

Alright..it was just close enough to bandage..if only she could get it to see that bandages weren't a threat. Carefully, Tohko held them out for the bird to inspect.

"It's alright..we're not going to hurt you."
