That's all right. Still, though, is this really the best place to sleep? I would think somewhere with a height advantage...

[There's not much time for Meiling to move to a more advantageous spot.

A red-masked monster comes snarling around the corner towards Patchouli and Meiling, barreling at full speed towards both girls.]

There are worse places to sleep in all honesty but- Lady Patchouli!

[Meiling is quick to respond and to move quickly in front of Patchouli, trying to guard her from the charging monster, arms held out to each side. It's obvious she is going to try her hardest to protect her.]

[Patchouli's response is a quick single laser beam aimed around Meiling and at the monster's chest - a quick magical modification, done on the fly - but she still has to stop for breath for a second after she fires it. If she'd been on her own? She'd be in a lot more trouble.]

[The monster clumsily moves out of direct fire of the beam, though it does sear along its left rear leg. If this causes the monster any pain, it doesn't show it, continuing its charge at an angle and heading right for Meiling.]

[Meiling will keep herself in between Patchouli and the charging monster. Her arms will start to glow with the rainbow ki as she prepares herself to fight.

She'll wait until the monster gets close and let loose with a quick and forceful punch, aiming for the monster's head]

[Patchouli's okay with this plan; it's a sound tactic. She knows her physical limits perfectly well. While she's been able to adapt some of her magical skills, she still has to deal with the fact that she's limited physically.

Still, there's one thing, one thing she reminded Meiling from the start: height advantage. She might not be able to get one physically; she's not very tall and will never be, but she has the power of flight on her side. Still staying behind Meiling, she floats about four feet in the air. She knows it's not entirely out of reach, but she's also hoping it will be high enough that she won't risk hitting Meiling with any of her magic.

The next focused laser comes from above, aimed to coincide with Meiling's punch. It still leaves the wizard breathless and a bit vulnerable, but she's able to stay in the air.]
