[The monster bats the chair across the room. It smashes into pieces even before it explodes just with the force of the blow.]

[Good show anyway, chap.

England makes a tsk sound in annoyance, nearly stumbling over himself in his haste to backpedal away from the monster. When he glances out towards the shelves along the walls, a thought occurs to him.]

Oi! [He calls out as he takes off running along the length of the closest wall.] Right here, you filthy beast!

[The monster charges right after, focusing in on the sound and scraping its claws on the floor as it runs to follow England.]

[England's almost thankful for how much time he's spent running from things in this Tower; he's probably in better physical shape than he was when he arrived straight from working at a desk all the time.

England rounds off a turn before he gets too close to the corner, now heading towards the furthest wall.]

[The laughing monster nearly misses the turn, nails sliding like a puppy's on the floor, but it makes it and picks up a bit more speed. It roars, though it's more like the wildest sort of unchecked laughter.]

[England makes a beeline for the opposite wall, leading the monster clean through one of the untouched rows.]

Come now, you've almost got me! Can't you go any faster than that?

[Once he makes it to the wall, he stops (well, "stops forcefully by catching himself on the bookcase" is more accurate) and turns to face his pursuer.]

[The laughing monster roars again--a drawn out, shrieking howl of a laugh--and runs, having now reached top speed, at England. It's faster than it should be, but the way it's running makes it clear its speed boost is a result of increased strength rather than any enhanced speed abilities.]

[England stands his ground as the monster charges at him. It's only at the very last second that he leaps out of the way, somersaulting into a roll as he hits the ground.]

[The laughing monster doesn't have enough time to stop or change direction; its feet skid on the ground and it slams into the bookcase, knocking the entire thing down on top of itself.

There's the crunch and snap of bone, and it's only through the laughing monster's own impressive strength that it survived at all. Still, it's trapped beneath the bookcase. Its back legs don't seem to work at all, and its front legs scrabble weakly.]

[England only barely manages to avoid the bookcase himself, scrambling to his feet and getting out of range as it falls.

He doesn't turn to look until he's safely behind one of the row bookcases, peering through the open shelves. When he sees that the monster is trapped, he scoffs and approaches the debris. England doesn't know if those claws can do anything special, but he's not about to put himself in range to find out.

He walks atop the broken remains of the bookshelf until he's pretty much on top of the monster, reaching for the pouch on his wasteband so that he can take out his knife. He then kneels so that the monster's head is within arm's reach.]

I presume you don't have any last words.

[The monster can't speak, but it can whine. Though the whine sounds more like giggling than anything else, there's an unhappy, frightened quality to it. It continues to try to struggle, It doesn't seem to realize its back is broken and it can't utilize its strength properly.

It whine-giggles again, sounding more desperate.]

[It sounds almost pitiful, but England doesn't have much sympathy for something that tried to kill him.]

I didn't think so.

[And then he reaches around the monster's head to slit open its throat.]

[The monster tries to squirm away, but it's still trapped where it is. It chokes and coughs on its own blood, its giggles high and panicky when it can make any noise at all, before it finally dies.]
keepscalm: (017❦old men of less truth than tongue)

[England doesn't move until the monster is silent, after which he hops down off the ruined bookshelf and cleans his knife on his trousers. The wreckage of the library is given a cursory glance before England huffs irritably.

He's definitely not going to clean this up, library job be damned.

But he does need to find another place to sleep.

So he skulks off, leaving the corpse of the monster behind.]
