[They consulted the Score for every little thing - what to eat, where to live, who to marry, when to move, how to go about their days. Anise thinks the Score can be a useful tool for getting an idea of what to do, but it shouldn't be the ultimate deciding factor.
Such thoughts are heretical, though. If she hadn't been a spy for Mohs she probably would have never risen through the ranks as much as she did.
But she doesn't think it matters if she's a heretic or not, as long as she's loyal to the Fon Master. Which she is. One version of him, anyway.]
But, I guess it doesn't really matter now. There's no Score in this place.

[It was. People should always have a choice-- not realizing it was just as bad as having the option taken away, in his opinion. Free will was a big, sore topic for him.]
But we can make our own choices here, and we will. Let's make our plan a little project for us. It'll help...or, at least, give us something to focus on.
[He pulled a slim pad of paper from his pocket, for emphasis.]
We can compare notes. I've collected a few, if you need some.

[She still seems a little down, at least for a few moments. But when he pulls the pad of paper from his pocket and speaks of comparing notes, she brightens up considerably and gets up on her tiptoes to take a look.]
That sounds like a great idea! ❤ [Gomen for the heart. It just slipped out.] What have you found out so far?
no subject
[It was going to be a continued request at this rate. The girl seemed to adore her hearts.]
I haven't made much progress yet, unfortunately. Just word that the power failure the other day was caused by someone in the Tower, not the admins. There's a third party in play.
[He was also jotting notes about the little things he encountered in the tower, such as the people he's met and locations where he could find supplies.
He wasn't going to be fooled again.]

[She's pouting, but only for a moment. There are more important things to consider here. Like the presence of whatever mysterious third party had planned the power failure...]
Hmm... did you get an invitation to that masquerade thing not too long ago? The one signed "Pandora"? I dunno who Pandora is, but they might've had something to do with it, maybe. The timing seems like it'd work anyway!
no subject
I did get that invitation, and I wonder why she called herself Pandora. It's an odd choice when you think about it, because the Pandora of myth opened the box that let all of the unpleasant things in the world.
...But, Luke did mention something about a box of 'fonchips.' I wonder if there's a connection?
no subject
Only, if it's connected to that box of fonchips, I don't think Luke would be helping with it if it were a bad thing...
[Then again, both Lukes here still had long hair. Maybe their judgment wasn't the greatest - Anise just didn't know.]

Why would residents here want to hurt others? I think this is a problem between them and we're caught in the mess.
Regardless, there's nothing we can do about it right now. This 'game' bothers me.
no subject
[Some people just didn't care how many people they hurt as long as they got what they wanted. Anise has met enough people like that on Auldrant in her thirteen years to know the signs when she sees them.]
It bothers me too. How is this supposed to be a game anyway? There's always been monsters around.
no subject
[There was a difference, and it was quite large.]
The admin must have left some clues in that note. We'll need to examine it later once we hear about something else.
[Because they will. There was doubt about that.]
no subject
[She's seen it happen. Ideally, yes - they'd all be comrades, working together to get out from other the administrators' thumbs (or perhaps just Ruana's). But she finds herself unable to believe that people will do the right thing just because they should all be in this together.]
Maybe... I just want to know why she's doing this. [She wrinkles her nose.] Oh! I've got my note with me, though... so we won't have to go all the way back up to get one later...
no subject
[He was guilty of it, time and again. How many times had he lashed out at his partner? Barnaby couldn't even count-- that was why he played his cards close and fought to maintain a straight face.]
...That was smart, Miss Anise. [He wished he had done the same, but lack of sleep had a way of hindering judgement.] I doubt we'll find her reason, but we might find a way to win.
no subject
[She smiles brightly, doing her best to look pleased with herself, but it's quite obviously forced. Still, acting like she's okay is a lot easier than admitting she's having a tougher time dealing with all of this than she would really like.]
So... [She pulls the note out. It's sort of crumpled up from being hastily shoved into her things, but she tries to smooth it out a little so they can look at it.
"The game starts tonight! Remember to check under the bed for monsters. Have fun! ♥"
...she wrinkles her nose.]
Okay, yeah, I can see why you wouldn't want me to use hearts...
no subject
Really. They're a pain.
[Anise had her smiles. He had his deadpanning. They all had a cover that they were trying to maintain. Barnaby just had years' worth of practice. The neutral tone continued as he pointed out the obvious.]
Why would monsters be under our beds? We're not all children in here.
no subject
[She shrugs, frowning down at the letter again. Look out for monsters under your beds. And then that strange feeling, like she needed to be somewhere, anywhere, other than her room...]
...you felt it too though, right? Like you weren't supposed to stay in there?
