Characters: Anyone who's willing to work for SCIENCE.
Setting: The Workshop (Floor 15) for the IC questions to the scientists and the mingle thread. Then each group will be positioned on a different floor so as to not alert the administrators with a large group of people gathering at a single place for a long time.
Format: Prose or action, whichever you prefer.

Summary: This log marks the start of the research on the collar fluid! As was mentioned in the sign-ups post, words was passed around about the need of more people to help and study the collar fluid. Characters signing-up have all been divided into seven teams, which can be found here. ICly, Doc Brown made the team based on what he thinks is the most efficient. You can still sign-up here.

There will be a thread in case your character needs to ask a question or anything to the starter scientists (Doc, Waver, Sertoria or Sephiroth) and in parallel a mingle thread for all the characters during the 'recruitment', even if they end up assigned to different teams. And then obviously, there are the individual threads for each teams so the new teammates can get and know each other if they don't already.

For their first day the teams will be on different floors, but following this nothing prevents two teams from working closeby or on different floors. For reference, there are three set of scientific equipment, each containing a microscope, a small centrifuge, beakers, test tubes, many testing apparatuses, etc. They'll be shared between the seven teams depending on what they need for their researches.

Warnings: Nothing! There will be no NPC tags here, researches shouldn't be dangerous and this log is mostly for the characters to get and know each other, so this should be a relatively harmless log. Well, unless you're in the Violet or Orange team of course. In which case, good luck.

[Diarmuid glances over to where Doc Brown is working and then shakes his head.]

I could, but he seems busy. I'm not too worried, though. I trust that Waver will veto anyone who he thinks will cause trouble. He wants a chance to study this stuff and that can't be done with people fighting.

If nothing else, I know he will make sure Sephiroth is not in our group. He is one of the few I will fight to keep out. The others I will at least try to work with for the sake of finding out just what is in this stuff.

You mean the adult Sephiroth, right? I remember you telling me he was a nasty piece of work. I think as long as we stay away from his group, we'll be fine. After all, he'd only pick people equally nasty or the ones who can stand him.

[Diarmuid nods, though he still seems worried and the reason why becomes clear when he speaks.]

That is the easy answer, but as with most easy answers it's not a complete one. If his group is all people like him, how will we ever find out what they learn? Everyone will be coming at this research from a different set of experiences and skills. It is important anything learned by anyone is shared with all.

Unless it involves death or pain, Sephiroth does not strike me as the sharing kind.

Yeah...maybe someone can make him do it? I remember he was there when we jumped down the elevators. So he was probably listening to Ganondorf or Enoch. If everything else fails, I'll shake him down.

I would rather you didn't try to do that alone. There is a reason I asked for you and Waver to help me when we finally figure out how to make Sephiroth pay for what he did to Ryoji.

[Diarmuid nods toward where Doc Brown is talking with several of the other team leaders.]

Besides, whoever Sephiroth is listening to is probably listening to them as well. Right now, their focus is on figuring out what is in those fluids. Hopefully, they will find a way to make sure the information gets where it needs to.

I do think I will mention my worries about information sharing to Waver, though. I am sure they have thought of it, but better to be safe than sorry.

I guess telling Waver would be the safer option. Whatever plan he has, I'll help out with.

I think that is the best idea. The last thing I want is anything interfering with the work that needs to be done here. That has to take priority over everything else.

[He smiles at his brother.]

I'm glad to have you helping to protect him. Waver will find something. I know he will.

[puppy_lancer]

[Lancer falls silent. For him, even the work is less important than his friends. Or, in this case, his brother. After a while, he nods.]

Yeah, I trust he'll find something. And keep everyone safe too.

[The silence causes Diarmuid to give his brother a curious and slightly concerned look.]

Is everything okay, brother? Nothing is bothering you, is it?

...Would you really put the investigation of this fluid above everything? Or have me put it above everything?

I...don't know how to answer that.

[Diarmuid's expression becomes decidedly uneasy as he speaks.]

This research is to help you and to help Waver. If we can free ourselves from being dependent on this fluid, just think of the steps we will be able to take to fix everything. That is so important that personal feuds and such must be set aside for everyone's sake.

I don't like it, but...

[He gives his brother a worried look.]

I am guarding, but I am also responsible for moving things if the worst happens. I don't know what I am going to do if Waver orders me to take the equipment and leave the rest of you behind to possibly die. You know I will want to stay and fight, but if we lose the fluid and equipment, we might very well lose our only chance to be free of this place.

I...don't want to have to make that choice for I fear I will make the wrong one. I care about you two so much...

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm worried about. I just hope he would never ask me to make that decision.

[Because Lancer couldn't. Because he wouldn't.]

Maybe I'm a selfish hero, but I'd take protecting you and Waver over the fluid any day.

I think we both know the issues I have with being selfish.

[He smiles a little sheepishly at his brother.]

Maybe it will sound weird, but I am glad you are that selfish. It makes things a little easier for me. If I have to go--if he uses a command spell to send me away--at least then I know you will be there to protect him.

[puppy_lancer]

[He returns Diarmuid's smile.]

If that happens, then I'll protect him with everything I have. And then I'll catch up to you. I promise.

I know you will and I thank you for that.

[Diarmuid's expression becomes more hopeful.]

We are going to find something, I know we will.

[puppy_lancer]

I just hope we can use that something to fight against the administrators.

[After all, science terms fly over his head.]

[They fly over Diarmuid's too for the most part.]

We will. It might not be something we can use directly against them, but if it is something that makes us stronger so it is easier to fight them, that is just as good.

[He pauses a moment as a thought pops into his head.]

We should tell the other guards to keep whatever weapons they can from the monsters they kill while their groups are working. Gathering more of those will do nothing but help us as well.

[puppy_lancer]

That would be good. But do we know which ones are guards?

Probably the fighters like us, but I really meant it more for our group than anything else.

[Diarmuid nods toward the others.]

Maybe once everyone has gotten set up and started we can think more about passing that kind of information along to other groups.

[puppy_lancer]

So we pick out people we know who aren't in the same group as us and ask them? Would that work?

Yes, that would work or if there is information sharing going on, we can send the heads up along with that information.

[Diarmuid falls silent to think a moment before speaking again.]

Using both methods probably couldn't hurt.
