[Science Experiment] || [Collar Fluid Research Start] || [Open]
Characters: Anyone who's willing to work for SCIENCE.
Setting: The Workshop (Floor 15) for the IC questions to the scientists and the mingle thread. Then each group will be positioned on a different floor so as to not alert the administrators with a large group of people gathering at a single place for a long time.
Format: Prose or action, whichever you prefer.
Summary: This log marks the start of the research on the collar fluid! As was mentioned in the sign-ups post, words was passed around about the need of more people to help and study the collar fluid. Characters signing-up have all been divided into seven teams, which can be found here. ICly, Doc Brown made the team based on what he thinks is the most efficient. You can still sign-up here.
There will be a thread in case your character needs to ask a question or anything to the starter scientists (Doc, Waver, Sertoria or Sephiroth) and in parallel a mingle thread for all the characters during the 'recruitment', even if they end up assigned to different teams. And then obviously, there are the individual threads for each teams so the new teammates can get and know each other if they don't already.
For their first day the teams will be on different floors, but following this nothing prevents two teams from working closeby or on different floors. For reference, there are three set of scientific equipment, each containing a microscope, a small centrifuge, beakers, test tubes, many testing apparatuses, etc. They'll be shared between the seven teams depending on what they need for their researches.
Warnings: Nothing! There will be no NPC tags here, researches shouldn't be dangerous and this log is mostly for the characters to get and know each other, so this should be a relatively harmless log. Well, unless you're in the Violet or Orange team of course. In which case, good luck.
General Mingle Pre-Research || IC Questions to the Scientists
Violet Fluid Team (Floor 56 - Hospital)
Indigo Fluid Team (Floor 18 - Study Room)
Blue Fluid Team (Floor 03 - Library)
Green Fluid Team (Floor 15 - Workshop)
Yellow Fluid Team (Floor 19 - Research Library)
Orange Fluid Team (Floor 26 - Morgue)
Clear Fluid Team (Floor 27 - Laboratory)

[Diarmuid's smile grows stronger.]
And I am glad to have you at my side to aid with this work. This will be dangerous for all of us, but I think perhaps even more so for the scientists who are leading the effort. I fear for them the most should the wrong people find out about this. Perhaps it is selfish of me, but part of me worries more for Waver's safety than anything else. Not only is he my Master, he is my friend and I don't want to see anything happen to him. Unfortunately, I know that if things go very badly, he likely will use his command spells to order me away with the fluid leaving me unable to defend him. Knowing you and my brother will be there to protect him brings me comfort.

When you say that Waver is your Master... he's not the lord that you've spoken of before, is he? If not, why do you serve him?
no subject
[Diarmuid's answer comes quickly and perhaps a little forcefully, though his tone softens as he continues.]
It is complicated why I serve him, but perhaps the best answer to your question is that I serve him because he is my friend. When I first came here, I tried to just serve myself and I almost lost myself in the process.
[His gaze drops as he continues to speak.]
I don't know if anyone who isn't from my time can understand just how much of who I am is shaped by who I serve and the actions I take while serving them. I can't serve myself. Trying to do so after having another direct me for so long just got me and another killed in the process...
[Even after all the time that has passed, Diarmuid will probably never forgive himself for freezing that day on the Circus floor and getting both he and his brother killed.]
I swore to myself if I ever served a Master again it would be one of my choosing. When I picked Waver, it was because he wanted to be my friend and my partner more than he wanted to be my Master. He is willing to direct me when I need it so that I don't make anymore mistakes because of my inexperience, while at the same time allowing me to do as I wish so that I can grow into someone who someday will be able to make those choices correctly.
[Diarmuid finally looks back up at Kain with a sheepish smile.]
How badly have I confused you?
no subject
Not too badly. A friend and partner is a strange choice for a 'Master', though. But I suppose not many get to choose their masters.
[He shakes his head and tries to smile, but it's more of a grimace. He could say more... but he does not want to say more. It was in his nature to hold back, after all.]
I'll be certain to watch him closely in your absence. And any others that are working with him.
no subject
[Diarmuid pauses here, curious about Kain's odd expression.]
I am grateful for your help, but I have a feeling there is still more you would say or ask. Please, feel free to say whatever you will. I will not be offended.
no subject
[He wouldn't have said more if Diarmuid hadn't encouraged him to say more. It didn't feel conversational, or casual, or even particularly kind. But he sighed, and proceeded.]
I've no desire for any such thing like that, myself. I've had my fill of following orders, whether by vow or compulsion. [He paused a moment, and then lowered his voice, speaking far more softly.] Were the world whole and well, were I to return to Baron, Cecil would be my ruler.
[No further commentary. Does it really need it?]
no subject
[Diarmuid falls silent as Kain continues. Once the dragoon is finished, he gives the man a serious look.]
We will make it so again. Cecil will rule as she was meant to.
[No, no more commentary is really needed, especially since with how complex Kain's relationship with Cecil is, Diarmuid is not entirely sure how the dragoon feels about that. He expects the answer is just as complex as their relationship is.]
no subject
[And he feels like he has run out of things to say, quite frankly. And that he could use a little time to just let all of what has been said settle within him. His gaze roves elsewhere, and then he takes a step away.]
If you'll excuse me.
no subject
We will. Be well, Kain. I am glad to have you working with us on this.
