Event: Quarantine

Setting: dormitory level rooms

Summary: An unexpected series of explosions has trapped residents in the dorm rooms with no power and no way to get out. Try to communicate with the outside, deal with being stuck in a small room with other people... Deal with the really strange things that seem to be happening, too.
Warnings: typical Animus horror event warnings

[There are several more explosions, and the sound of things falling and crumbling outside. The dorm rooms themselves don't collapse or cave in, but the furniture and trunks and nightstands may be rattled and knocked about. Eventually, the lights flicker and go out entirely, leaving everyone in the dark. There are small red emergency lights lining the floors, but they don't seem to have come on all the way, and flicker on and off eerily.

After maybe twenty minutes everything falls silent. However, if you try the door, you'll find you can't get out...]

[Considering how strongly Waver's unease is transferring across their bond, Diarmid really should have said something before this. But when he had come close enough to hear the conversation, he had been too mortified by the subject to speak. However, too far is too far.

Not that he thinks this will stop her, but...]

Can't you see how uneasy you are making him? Perhaps this is nothing for you, but isn't not that way for everyone!

[...but maybe transferring her attention to him will help? It had been his slip that started this after all...]

[Lancer almost jumps at Diarmuid's outburst. He quickly moves to place himself between Diarmuid and Asagi.]

Come on, Bro, she was just ribbing us a bit. I'm sure she'll stop once we tell her no.

[He looks back at Asagi.]

...I think you can take that as a definite no.

[If anything, Asagi rolls her eyes.]

Boys. No wonder half my sisters bat for the home team.

[Probably more than half, but not the point. Asagi's temper flares a little, eyes flashing- but she raises a hand and waves it dismissively.]

Whatever. Wouldn't want you and the missus mad at me forever anyway, Diarmuid.

I don't know what you're talking about. Whatever idea you have about us, I suggest you forget it immediately.

He's not my Missus. If anything...

[Even though the words are soft, Diarmuid cuts himself off. He's really got to stop doing that, but it's hard. He's so happy about things, he wants to share even if he knows it's not a good idea. Especially not in circumstances like these.]

[Lancer's mouth drops wide open.]

...Really? Bro? Are you guys...?

[He looks back and forth from Diarmuid to Waver, unable to believe it.]

And Asagi with the win. God, can I call 'em or can I call 'em?

[Smug Asagi is smug.]

P.S. Dia you are such a girl, that was totally cute.

[But then she snickers and adds-]

Maybe I should have made the offer a foursome instead.

[The response? Waver scowled and slapped a hand to his face, muttering frustratedly under his breath.]

Fuck. Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck buggering fucking hell I hate my life.

[Diarmuid hears his brother and Asagi's responses, but the only response that really registers in his mind is Waver's. It hurts a little bit, but he does understand why Waver is so upset.

And Karna is in the room, which just makes things that much worse.

He turns to Waver and gives him a sad and ashamed look.]

I'm sorry... I know we just talked about this...

[Meanwhile, Cu Chulainn just stands between the two, looking rather pale. His mouth hangs open and he is completely still.]

[If there had been a relationship between Diarmuid and Waver, how had he failed to notice it? And besides, the idea of Waver being romantic at all threatens to break his mind.]

Forget it. I just don't think now would be the best ti-...what the fuck is your problem.

[LOOKING AT YOU, MURDERHOUND.]

Cu, breathing is a good thing.

[Asagi reaches up and smacks his face lightly, eyes rolling.]

And come on, Professor, it's not that big a deal, is it?

[I mean why not want people to know you're getting some of that, she doesn't get it.]

[Diarmuid nods at Waver and doesn't say anything else. After all, it seems like everything he's said lately just has made things worse and distracted them from what they should really be focusing on, which is exactly what he didn't want to do. Still, now that he knows Waver's not really mad, he can't help but feel bad at his brother's shocked look.]

We can talk later, okay, brother?

[Thankfully, 'later' is a very vague term...]

[By now, much of Lancer's initial shock has worn off.]

...You guys really are...

[He mutters and shakes his head, trying hard to get over his disbelief.]

[The next second, he's giving Diarmuid a big hug.]

...That's great, Bro!

Can we please move on to more relevant and pressing matters? This is hardly important right now.

You mean how we can't get out of here short of nuking the door and we have no clue what the hell else to do?

[Asagi's expression is as flat as they come.]

Oh yeah, sitting around not doing a damn thing until we get a clue is so pressing. I'll take gossip any day- I hate being bored.

[Diarmuid is startled by the sudden hug. Once the surprise passes, though, he smiles slightly and ruffles his brother's hair.]

Surely there must be something we can do besides sit around and wait.

[Because he doesn't like the idea of waiting for clues to come to them anymore than he likes the idea of sitting around and gossiping. After all, look at all the trouble his mouth has already caused...]

[Lancer makes a face at Waver.]

Hey, of course it's important! You guys finally got together!

[He looks back toward Diarmuid.]

Yeah, we should discuss that, shouldn't we. Did Waver come up with any good ideas?

One, I'm standing right here so you can just ask me.

[>:T]

Two, if I had any idea then I wouldn't just be standing here.

[Diarmuid reaches out to give Waver's shoulder a calming squeeze, his hand lingering just a bit longer than it probably should.]

I expect this is some kind of security protocol meant to protect us, but it's gone a little haywire instead because of the damage. It's too bad we don't have access to a terminal and a hacker. Perhaps, they could find a way to release the locks. Ken suggested trying to cut through or around the door, but until we can get something that will actually damage the Tower...

Well, if we had a terminal, I'd give it a shot but.

[A shrug.]

Not like anyone even has a laptop or something to use either.

[But even then, she's not sure that could be connected to the tower well enough to be used to hack into anything.]

But if it's a failsafe, that means he'll be able to override it eventually.
