Event: Quarantine

Summary: An unexpected series of explosions has trapped residents in the dorm rooms with no power and no way to get out. Try to communicate with the outside, deal with being stuck in a small room with other people... Deal with the really strange things that seem to be happening, too.
Warnings: typical Animus horror event warnings

[There are several more explosions, and the sound of things falling and crumbling outside. The dorm rooms themselves don't collapse or cave in, but the furniture and trunks and nightstands may be rattled and knocked about. Eventually, the lights flicker and go out entirely, leaving everyone in the dark. There are small red emergency lights lining the floors, but they don't seem to have come on all the way, and flicker on and off eerily.

After maybe twenty minutes everything falls silent. However, if you try the door, you'll find you can't get out...]

You're overreacting.

[He'd started to find proper and stable footing again, though that headache was still one hell of a nuisance. Waver pulled away carefully, steady enough on his feet before sitting down on the edge of the bed.]

Look, I'm well enough at the moment. And I can take care of myself.

After Waver is asleep

[Suzaku has been stood in his normal spot by the wall watching everyone silently. When Waver is finally asleep he goes over to Diarmuid and looks at his friend worriedly. This situation has taken it's toll on everyone but Suzaku has noticed his friend seems a lot more... emotional than usual.

Then again Suzaku has never seen him around people from his world for long periods of time, perhaps this is what Diarmuid is usually like.] How are you holding up?

Re: After Waver is asleep

[Now that he has nothing else left to do, Cu Chulainn also steps over to his brother and Suzaku.]

You finally got him down for the count, Bro?

[He notices the look of worry on Suzaku's face, and he has to turn to look from Suzaku back to Diarmuid.]

Say, Bro, you're not worrying yourself sick over this situation, are you?

[He hopes that Suzaku's worried face is unfounded.]

[Diarmuid is watching Waver sleep with a fond, relaxed look on his face. In a way, it's almost like he's thinking about another time or place, and if asked, he will guiltily admit that he is, in fact, doing just that. He's thinking about what it might be like once he and Waver go back to his world. Talking Waver into sleeping when he needs it is probably going to be a common occurrence.

Thinking about that is better than thinking about being trapped in a room with no way to change things. That is why it takes him a few moments to respond to his friends' words. Diarmid shakes his head and then gives his brother and Suzaku a sheepish look.]

My turn now, right? Don't worry, I'm not going to fight you. I promised him.

[And he's just going to ignore the questions they asked. Oops...]

Good. [Suzaku had the needle, though he didn't produce it just yet. Diarmuid had forced him to talk enough times since they met, that Suzaku barely felt bad for turning the tables.] But you didn't answer our questions, Diarmuid.

[Diarmuid raises an eyebrow at Suzaku, but the amusement in his eyes makes it clear he is well aware of the irony in the situation.]

You've learned well. Too well maybe.

[He laughs, though the laughter quickly changes into a tired sigh.]

I am worried, but that is nothing new. I always worry. I need to be planning when there is something going on and when I cannot plan it is more frustrating than I can explain. However, I'm sorry about yesterday. I let the stress of the situation get to me. I... Waver is so worried about running out of time and all I could think about was that this was an opportunity and something I could do to help with the fluid research.

It wasn't completely wrong. The collar fluid really is pretty important.

...But I care about you more than any fluid. I think I can say so for Suzaku and Waver as well. So next time, don't try to sacrifice yourself.

['Ask me to do it instead' is what goes unsaid.]

And if it had been one of us instead of you arguing, what would you have done? [Slammed them into the nearest hard surface if Suzaku's experience of doing what Diarmuid thought bad for him was any measure.]

I was wrong, okay? I understand that now...

[Diarmuid closes his eyes for a moment and then laughs a little sadly.]

I would think by now both of you would know how bad I am at taking my own advice. There's a reason I'm trying to fix that. It's just not going so well.

[Things would go so much better if he could make himself believe he is worth as much as others are. That he is just as human and deserving of things. For a little while, he had been better but lately it's like he's lost the ability to see that again.]

[puppy_lancer]

[He pats Diarmuid on the shoulder.]

Hey, at least you came around.

[He looks over at Suzaku now.]

...Guess we should get everything done before you change your mind again, Bro?

[swordofzero]

[Suzaku nodded] You might want to sit down, it can be a bit jarring. [Suzaku gestured at an empty bed.]

Yes, I am aware. Waver would have collapsed if I hadn't been there to catch him since he was too stubborn to sit first.

[Diarmuid makes his way to the empty bed and sits, holding out his arm once he has.]

Lets get this over with. To be honest, I'm already feeling the worst part. My link with Waver went dead after he took his and his powers were turned off. The longer I want, the longer I will have to wait for that part of me to be restored.

[He doesn't know if Suzaku can understand just how disorienting it is to lose a link one is so used to having, but Diarmuid is sure his brother will understand.]

[puppy_lancer]

[Lancer goes to sit next to his brother]

And if you take a nap at the same time, then it'll seem to be an even shorter interval.

[He falls silent for a moment.]

Hey, do you want me to move the beds? So you and Waver can be next to each other?

[Diarmuid's eyes drift to Waver. For a moment, there is a flash of longing--like he wants to say yes--but after a moment, he shakes his head.]

We've shared a single bed before so I wouldn't ask you to move one if I was going to anyway, but I'm not. He's...easily embarrassed when it comes to things like this. I don't want to add anymore to his stress level right now.

[He's well aware of the fact that Waver would likely drift toward him in his sleep and end up wrapped around him. If they were alone, it would be no issue, but if others saw it that would be a totally different story.]

Alright.

[He nods, and gives Diarmuid's free hand a squeeze. Then, he scoots away a bit to give Suzaku room to work.]

[Suzaku just nodded and let Diarmuid and Cu talk, this was something he knew very little about] Alright. [He led Diarmuid to sit down and gave him the injection quickly before Diarmuid could change his mind about complying. He was ready to steady him.]

[Diarmuid had thought himself prepared for the side effects of the shot after watching so many others take it, and besides the part that would be the most disorienting for him was over. His bond with Waver was already severed.

He is wrong. Despite his preparations, Diarmuid still jerks forward when the side effects hit and is barely able to brace himself with his free arm so that he doesn't fall off the bed. He squeezes his eyes shut to try and combat the dizziness.

Never has he been this dizzy before. It's making him feel very, very sick. Were he the kind who swore more often, he would certainly be doing it right now. As it is, he just rocks slightly on the bed, keeping his head down, and hoping the worst will pass quickly.]

[Lancer claps his hands around Diarmuid's shoulders.]

How are you feeling? You wanna lie down?

[swordofzero]

[Suzaku reached out to steady him but moved his arms away when Lancer did so instead.] I think it is best if you lie down for the moment, and try to get some sleep.

[oathshackledbird]

D-don't...

[While Diarmuid knows his brother doesn't mean it, his touch causes Diarmuid to move enough that the world starts spinning hard. It's almost enough to cause him to be sick, and he has to take several deep breaths to stop it from happening.]

Laying down. That is a good idea...

[He had wondered why Waver had given in to his request to get some sleep so easily. Now, Diarmuid completely understands why.]

[Diarmuid sighs, moving to crouch in front of the bed where Waver is sitting once he is sure his friend is safely seated.]

I learned overreacting from the best. You should really know by now that I am going to worry about you, not because you can't take care of yourself, but because I care about you. So...what do I have to do to get you to reconsider that sleeping thing? I really think it will make you feel better and help you think more clearly.

[He laughs lightly.]

And who knows. Maybe some of the idiots will grow brains while you're asleep...

[fionnuisce]

[Well...he was pretty damn tired, tough act be damned.]

Promise you'll actually take that stupid injection and not screw around because you think it'll benefit us later, and you've got a deal. I need all of you to understand we can't afford to do anything stupid.

[oathshackledbird]

[Diarmuid places his hand against his chest, bowing his head slightly.]

I swear it, Waver. Once Suzaku has a moment I will ask him to do it. I think he's made it pretty clear he's not going to let me do anything stupid. If you cannot trust my word on this after yesterday, you can trust his.

[fionnuisce]

Don't be so dramatic. I'll trust you, so just try to keep everyone out of trouble. [Waver took off his sunglasses and laid down, turning his back on the rest of the room with an exasperated sigh.]

If I wake up and you're all beating the shit out of each other, I'm going to pick someone to use as a battering ram on the door.

[Diarmuid shakes his head.]

I'm not being dramatic. I'm just trying to ease your mind so you rest better. I'll do all I can to keep everyone under control. With my powers gone it might be more difficult, but Ken and Suzaku will help me if I need it, I'm sure.

[As Waver lays down, Diarmuid stands up and moves to drape a blanket over his friend. His hand lingers on Waver's shoulder just for a moment as he does before it falls away.]
