Event: Quarantine
Characters: any characters trapped in rooms during the event
Setting: dormitory level rooms
Format: any
Summary: An unexpected series of explosions has trapped residents in the dorm rooms with no power and no way to get out. Try to communicate with the outside, deal with being stuck in a small room with other people... Deal with the really strange things that seem to be happening, too.
Warnings: typical Animus horror event warnings
[There are several more explosions, and the sound of things falling and crumbling outside. The dorm rooms themselves don't collapse or cave in, but the furniture and trunks and nightstands may be rattled and knocked about. Eventually, the lights flicker and go out entirely, leaving everyone in the dark. There are small red emergency lights lining the floors, but they don't seem to have come on all the way, and flicker on and off eerily.
After maybe twenty minutes everything falls silent. However, if you try the door, you'll find you can't get out...]

He lets the nutrition bar and the bottle disappear in is cloak - strictly speaking he doesn't really need either, but his mind keeps wandering to places where water and food are tight, at least for him, where there are guards laughing at him, beating him, telling him to beg (but he won't, he'll never steep that low, he will endure and in the end he will win) and he just pulls out his old deck and starts shuffling quietly and the repetition of well practiced motion helps to keep his mind off the worst things (they haven't taken it from him, they can't not here, he'll kill them all before he lets anyone touch it) and after a while he is fully back in control again, warily glancing between the rest of his fellow 'room mates'.
It's much worse a while later, after he forces himself to inject the collar fluid, when the mark on his arm flares purple for just a second as if in protest and then totally fades from his skin, when the black of his sclera changes into white and the red marks on his skin change color to yellow - his powers are gone, the hum of Ccapac Apu in the back of his mind is no longer there, and instead his head feels like it's about to split into two and he can't control the shaking (much more violent than before) this time as he is hit by nausea, his breathing speeding up as he clenches his eyes closed and grips his deck tight like a lifeline (they haven't taken it, they haven't taken it, they haven't won yet).
He only dares to open his eyes again, after the headache and urge to throw up have lessened a bit, turning his head to glance around to room, only to pale when he stares at the door and suddenly sees the guards walking up and down and he is torn between pressing himself back against the wall or to pounce forward and try to tear them all apart - and even if he can't reach them, he can still show them that he hasn't broken, that he will fight to his last breath - but then he feels the cards in his hand, the edges cutting into his skin and that is the only thing that anchors him, and lets him recall.
This isn't the prison. This isn't Satellite. They haven't taken his deck, his pride. Ccapac Apu is still with him, will be with him again if he just endures...
...He's losing it and not in a good way. He's losing to memories he had been using to this point to fuel his rage, his thirst for vengeance, he can't keep that up unless he wants to end up like Richtofen and honest, Kiryu has absolutely no desire to lose a foot or a hand or anything else for that matter.
He exhales slowly, closing his eyes as he slowly starts shuffling again. The cards, he's got to focus on the cards and pull himself together again.]
Oi, kid.
[He whispers as he jerks his head at Ira, though at this point he isn't particular picky just who reacts to the call. He needs to focus on this and forget about the guards that shouldn't be there anyways, about the walls that feel like they are closing in on him, and the memories of all the laughter and humiliation that are two years in the past.
He straightens in his seat and rearranges himself until he sits cross-legged and relaxes the grip on his cards, turning them face upwards and starts to separate them into different piles - one with yellow, one with orange, one with green and one with purple cards.]
Get over here. I'll teach you cards.

At least something else caught his attention. Just one word.
Cards.
He blinks, looking over at Kiryu. If he knew anything of the irony he'd probably not respond much to it, but hey - cards were better than nothing (or getting your face pummeled by a giant key).]
...Fine.
[He moves a bit closer, making sure to not even look in Richtofen's direction lest he have the urge to strangle him for being an idiot. Eventually, he sits across from him.]
What kind-?
[Wait weren't these the same cards he used to summon that dragon back when they went to town on everything?]

Also, yes, those are the very same cards he summoned his dragon from.]
It's called Duel Monsters. Where I'm from everything is decided by this game.
[And when he says everything, he means everything. Even the fate of the world.]

Everything? [That may or may not be a smirk on his face, considering all muscle memory back home was governed by cards. Simply a perk of being here for his afterlife, he guesses; not having to depend on them.] Almost sounds like home.
