Curiousity killed the cat

Characters: Suzaku and Lelouch
Setting: Starting in dorm floors and going to floor 101
Format: Either
Summary: Suzaku has been good, done what Diarmuid told him and left Lelouch well alone. But curiosity gets the best of him at the end
Warnings: Angsty, angry boys, mind wipe, betrayal, Code Geass awfulness also spoilers

Suzaku had been working hard all month, focusing on the collar researching and doing his best to avoid Lelouch and Rolo. But he couldn't put the matter out of his mind. Diarmuid had told him to leave it but he had to know. If this was a Lelouch from another world then his worries would be for nothing. Even though it was still not healthy for Rolo it was safe and Suzaku couldn't exactly begrudge happiness, since these would be the last months Rolo was alive. Even if the worlds were restored... Rolo was dead.

However is Suzaku was right, if this Lelouch was from his own world, having lost his memories due to Geass. He could be dangerous to Rolo, and to others if the glamour went off. It had flickered a bit the last month and Suzaku had heard nothing, but he needed proof.

So he was at his door, Arthur in his arms, teeth sunk into a finger and his gun at his side like always. He knocked.

"Here." They stepped further out and they were in a garden, with thousands of different plants of all shapes and sizes, growing up to the ceiling or hanging down from it. Suzaku had noticed the difference in the way he was carrying himself and it took him a moment to speak.

"Lelouch?"

Lelouch didn't respond at first. He stepped forward, looking at all of the plants around them. Some of them, he didn't even know existed. It was like a lot of them were foreign to him, maybe even foreign to his world.

"Suzaku," he began, "What was the real purpose of bringing me here?"

Suzaku turned to him, facing him straight on and trying to look calm, in control. "This, like a few of the floors here take away peoples powers. This includes Geass that has been cast on people." Complete honesty, either Lelouch would have no idea what he was talking about, in which case he was from a different world, or he would realise Suzaku had tricked him, again.

"Again." Lelouch said with every ounce of hatred in his voice. He glared, moving as quick as he can to slam the bottom of the gun into Suzaku's head. If that doesn't work out, he's already turned the safety off and his finger is on the trigger.

"Do you enjoy doing this, Suzaku?!"

The hit landed solidly, because Suzaku didn't move away. He stumbled backwards, it hurt but not enough to knock him over, even angry Lelouch was not that strong.

Green eyes met Lelouch's coolly. Not seeming to care that he had a gun pointed at him. "I had to know, for Rolo's sake."

Lelouch held the gun up at him, glaring angrily.

"Oh, this isn't something that you needed to do? No one put you up to this this time?" Lelouch scoffed, "I don't care about him and I don't care about you. I don't know him and he isn't my brother. He's nothing to me - a replacement, if anything."

"So, Suzaku, what did he promise you if you brought me to him? I'd love to know what the reason was for bringing me to the Emperor."

Suzaku didn't look angry at all, he just looked at Lelouch and the gun in his hand. The words hurt, but it was nothing he didn't expect. This was why he had done this, so he could get the truth. And now he had it.

"A place in the Rounds. A chance to change things." He told him, eyes almost dead. They had had this argument before, they had discussed this, they had hated each other for this and then they had put it aside to save the world. But Lelouch wasn't from there, and Suzaku was nothing more than a traitor.

"A chance to ensure Euphie didn't die in vain."

"Something selfish, as usual." Lelouch didn't even comment about Euphie. It was an accident and he regretted it... Now it was just thrown back in his face.

"Did you earn your place? Did you change things? Because that's what I was doing before you stopped me." That was obvious, of course. He continued to glare, staring the other down, "What now? What will you take from me now? I remember what was told to me when I came here. I don't have much else to lose, Suzaku. You took my chance away and everyone else is dead." He hesitated, glancing away. "...Including Nunnally."

"Of course." He brought his head back up, "I changed things," They had changed things, but it was to complicated to explain and Lelouch wouldn't listen, not at the moment. Perhaps not ever. He wouldn't remember this once he left this floor.

"But it doesn't matter, like you said everyone is dead." And neither of them had much to lose at all. "You needed to be stopped, you were out of control."

"It looks like it. I can see the difference that you've made." Every word he spoke either was dripping was sarcasm or hatred toward the other, "I was not! You were afraid of someone else making a change, just like everyone else was."

"This must be some kind of hell. I don't get to do what I promised; I don't even get to apologizing for being a horrible brother or for failing Nunnally. I'm forced to stay here with a false brother and you. There's too many things that I could call you."

"It was much like the difference you made." Involving far too many deaths. Arthur bit him again and Suzaku let go of him, the cat darted off, away from the two of them. Smart cat.

"Say what you have to say, I'm not stopping you."

"And just what are you wanting me to say? That I hate you? Or something else?" Lelouch's eyes darted over to Arthur, looking surprised, "What did you do to him also?!"

"The truth. There have been too many lies between us." He blinked and also watched Arthur go. "He has been in this place for two years, I didn't do anything to him."

"You already know the truth... You're-- You were my friend and you basically gave me over to the Emperor. You can figure it out from there."

"You were my friend, yet you fought against me. Manipulated people, cursed me to live, murdered Euphemia." He doesn't even sound angry, more resigned, these things still hurt, but he had been so angry about them, had fought with Lelouch about them. And who Lelouch was was so confused in Suzaku's mind. He was this angry person, but he was also the emperor and he was also the one who was going to create the world anew.

"That was an accident and you know it was!! I would've let Euphemia do whatever she pleased. She already knew who I was and wanted to work with me. You've always been against me... I did what I needed to do while you ran off to whoever would accept you and put you on a pedistal." Now he was just angry and trying to get some reaction from the other. Anything besides that blank and serious expression. It made him even more angry.

"What will you do with me now? I'm not leaving here. As soon as I do, I will return to how I was."

"An accident that you used to your advantage and used as an excuse to kill hundreds more than had already been killed due to your accident." His voice was still calm, cold, empty.

"Nothing. I told you. I had to know so that I could protect Rolo from you. Before you hurt him even more than you already have."

"How have I hurt him? All that I remember is having been kind to him since he has been with me." He didn't comment on the first bit. He knew what he had done was wrong... He regretted it and if he could apologize, he would.

"And if you met him here, on this floor would you be so kind?" He pressed on, angry that he had just brushed off the first comment.

Lelouch was quick to answer that one, "No, he's not my brother. He's not anything to me."

Suzaku stepped into his space within moments, hand coming to grab the front of Lelouch's shirt. "He cares for you. If our powers get turned off, if you end up on a powerless floor with him. You won't do anything to hurt him. I will not allow you to break his heart."

Lelouch was quick to move the gun underneath Suzaku's chin as he was grabbed and threatened. He glared daggers at the other, almost daring him to try something else.

"Why do you care so much? Are you the one that put him up to pretending to be my brother? I'm sure you told him to keep tabs on me since I'm so 'out of control' as you say. If he gets in my way, I will get rid of him; just like I'll get rid of you as well. You're both enemies of mine and I will never forgive you for your betrayal."

"I put him up to nothing." He glared back at him, daring him to pull the trigger. The words tore into him but he let them, they were the hatred he craved, the punishment for all his crimes. "But I care about him. I won't let you hurt him, I will not let you hurt anyone in this tower. This is not Britannia, and if you try anything I will stop you."

"You should know by now - I'm not afraid of you. I'm not afraid of anyone here. Even if I don't have my Geass, I will do what I can to get out of here. I'm not finished with Britannia or the Emperor. You can live a lie as long as you'd like with my fake brother, but I will not."

"I am not living a lie." His eyes glinted, "I am fighting to get out, I won't stop you in that. But I will not allow you to hurt the others here, to throw their lives away as well."
