Characters: Anyone coming to Zo's carnival

Summary: Zo has set up a carnival for the residents, but it's not meant to last. Anyone wandering after the bombs go off might see things they never wanted to see...
Warnings: Psychological and body horror
Note: Characters entering the carnival from the 27th to the 30th will experience visions! Please refer to the info post for details and reply to this thread if your character enters the carnival during these days.

[The carnival has taken up the entirety of the cafeteria. A large roller coaster and ferris wheel tower over the residents, while a child-sized roller coaster, a merry-go-round, and spinning teacups project much less daunting silhouettes. Stands are set up with standard carnival foods available, from ice cream to cotton candy. These stands do not ask for anything as payment.

On the twenty-seventh, the carnival appearance changes. The machinery all appears rusted and broken down, as if weathered with decades of rain and snow. Plants grow up and around the rides, ruining them, and all the food is rotten.]

[Sheena smiles at him knowingly.]

Only to someone who's had that same expression the first time they went to an amusement park.

[She nods slowly as he explains.]

Let me guess. It's too far away for you to get there easily?

[She follows his gaze and turns back with a chuckle.]

It really is, and no matter how much people describe one, it's just not believable until you see it, right? Is there something you wanted to try first?

Yes. [Ion sighs, though not particularly heavily.] Even if that wasn't true, however, I doubt I'd find the time to go.

[Even that wasn't the full reason. If Ion had had the time, he certainly wouldn't have had the energy to make the trip. And even if he had had the energy, he doubted any of the Maestros would have given him permission. If it wasn't one thing, it was surely another.]

But that's true! It makes me appreciate just how much work must go into building and operating these sort of places. [But at her last question, Ion looks momentarily startled, then shakes his head.]

Oh, no. I'm fine just watching, for now. I don't know where I'd start...and my Guardian would give me an earful if I ran in on my own before she finished scouting.

[She has no idea about his health issues that could keep him from traveling, so she goes for the one thing she does recognize.]

Your Guardian? [From the way he said it and the fact that he said he'd never find time to go, Sheena can only guess that he's an important person with too many duties to leave him some free time.] You mean a bodyguard?

[From what she's seen of this place, he definitely needed one. Although, she wondered if part of his guard's being upset would be from him heading off and having fun without her.

However, Sheena wasn't about to risk finding out, and stayed right she was with him.]

Okay. Well, how about this: You tell me what looks interesting, and I'll tell you about it? This way, you can give your Guardian a list of the places you'd like to go. [And since she'd already have been through the park, she'd know the fastest route.]

More or less, yes. [A bodyguard was basically what she was, after all. There were more specific details and duties, of course, but it was an explanation that would suffice for what it was.] Her name is Anise; she's really very nice.

[At least to him, she was. But when Sheena makes her offer, Ion smiles brightly in her direction.]

If it wouldn't be too much of a bother, I'd like that. How about...

[He looks around, his eyes first landing on the ferris wheel. It is, after all, a rather large landmark.]

...that tall, round one over there?

[Sheena nods as she commits the guardian's name to memory, hoping she'd get to meet her eventually.

Seeing him brighten at her suggestion makes her grin widely at him.]

It's no trouble at all.

[And she waits as he decides, wondering which one of the two largest rides he'd pick--since they're the most obvious. She nods when he points at the Ferris Wheel.]

That's called a "Ferris Wheel". You get into a car--either alone or with another person--and it travels slowly in a circle. Sometimes they stop with your car at the top. It's not so bad--unless it's windy.

[There's a sort of wonder in Ion's eyes as he watches the Ferris Wheel make its slow rotation as the young woman explains its function. Those two things in and of themselves paint a pretty clear picture.]

Outside, it must give a wonderful view at the top. [Ion can see the appeal, though it's a bit lost in its surroundings, here.] I can understand why anyone would want to share that with a friend.

[Sheena watches with him, her expression saddening slightly as she nods.]

There was a place back home called Altamira that was on the ocean, so when you got to the top, you could see water one way, and land the other.

[She looked at the rest of the park before giving him a smile.]

Which actually was kinda nice to see with a friend. Although, looking down wasn't too bad if it didn't bother you too much just to see how small everything else on ground seemed to be.
