It could just be, if we can win the day at the end of all this.
[A hefty challenge in and of itself, but having something to fight for is a powerful thing.]
no subject
Right... [He spoke mostly to himself, absentmindedly.] Even if we survive, it's nothing I would call 'victory' at all if that isn't the end result.
no subject
My friend would likely insist we concentrate on our survival before her life or anything else, but I have to agree.
[If Hyrule were restored, but she knew Arturia was suffering her World's will...]

[Waver shrugged with one shoulder, the other still irritating him just a bit.]
But since we're the only ones within earshot right now, I won't tell if you won't.

[Her eyes remain closed, but a fond smile tugs at the corners of her lips.]
It seems they both need someone to look after their well-being, since they will not do it themselves.
[Nevermind that she sometimes has issues in that department as well. They're not talking about her, okay.]
no subject
Let me guess--yours is the type to try and insist everyone comes before them and works themselves half to death doing so.
[pot, kettle, etc etc.]
no subject
[This is the most hypocritical conversation the multiverse has ever experienced.]
So kind and noble-hearted, yet it took quite some time to get her to realize she has people who actually care for her.
[Halloween was certainly an experience.]

At the risk of seeming as though I'm prying, could I ask her name? This is seeming...disturbingly similar to who I had in mind at the moment.
[As in 'if you hadn't specified pronouns I'd think there were two of him'.]
no subject
Her name is Arturia, though sometimes I believe she calls herself Saber of White.
[Please don't blindside her with alternate universe shenanigans she is too tired for that.]
no subject
[TOO LATE]
Small multiverse, I guess.
no subject
We first met the day we found the processing room, actually. Do you come from similar worlds?
no subject
[~MULTIVERSE HIJINKS~]
Is she interested in going to your world rather than her own? That's actually somewhat reassuring to hear.
no subject
[Well, at least she's no stranger to timeline shenanigans at this point.]
She is, yes, and I am glad for it as well. I do not know how much I should speak on the matter, but... while Hyrule might not have been in the best of states when I awoke here, it still would be a kinder place to her than her own world.
[Don't mind the bit of an edge her voice gains when she mentions Arturia's world. She's not fond of the planetary entity that took away her friend's will for Goddesses know how long.]
no subject
[Bitter? No, not at all.]
Whole fucking system is a mess, if you ask me...
no subject
I fear I am not well versed in the whole affair - my interactions have mostly been limited to Ruler and Arturia, which I understand to not be what one would call 'standard' in this context.
[Ruler was supposed to be neutral - a mediator - and Arturia was no longer a part of the war, as she understood it.]
no subject
[Sighing, Waver crossed his arms with a small frown.]
I was part of the entire thing as a teenager--actually I might argue I'm still very much involved with the matter of the Holy Grail itself.
no subject
[But her voice softens somewhat after that, sympathetically.]
But I will not pry if it is something you would rather not speak of.

no subject
If you are willing to speak, I am willing to listen to whatever you feel comfortable saying.
no subject
And that's only the basic concept on paper. It gets far, far more idiotic and cruel, I can promise you that.
[Waver held up his right hand, showing Zelda the bright red sigil branded there.] For one thing, Servants can't exist without being connected to a Master, and these fucking awful things are proof of that contract. These Command Spells represent three absolute orders a master can give, and their Servant will be forced to follow them no matter what they might be.
no subject
Arturia told me a bit about them. If the command is powerful enough, even reality itself must bend to its will, or something akin to it.
[Her eyes finally slide down and away, then.]
... I did not know the Holy Grail offered a wish as its prize, but... I am familiar enough with the concept of wars over such things.
no subject
[Shrugging, Waver put his right hand in his pocket.]
That's the bit which aggravates me, in hindsight. It's...just sick. Master and Servant both get a wish out of the ordeal, in theory--but nothing is worth that kind of shit. And that's not even touching upon what the Grail actually is.
no subject
Seeking such power rarely ends well, I have found, regardless of intent.
[Or maybe that's just her unfortunate life. Either way.]
What is the Grail in reality, then?
no subject
After I came here, I met a Servant that shouldn't exist; an unknown eighth class called Avenger. Just being around him reminded me of that feeling of dread I had when the Grail should have appeared. Whatever force or figure he was in life, Avenger was what damaged the original wish-granting Grail. Looking at that as well as my own experience, there is no longer any doubt in my mind the Holy Grail was corrupted at some point in time.
[Waver stopped speaking for a moment or two, hoping he'd covered the general idea well enough. He still had scars from his last encounter with Avenger, one he would much sooner rather have forgotten. Speaking again, his voice took on a quieter, determined tone.]
For years, I've hoped for another chance at reaching the Grail--something like that can't exist. And even if it wasn't corrupted...it isn't right, any of it. I hate the system that forces good and honest heroes to serve arrogant mages, and the same system which calls forth fucking monsters that don't care about sacrificing civilians for no reason. All of that, just for one person's wish...I just can't stand for it.
Whatever the Grail was and whatever it is now, it has to be dismantled and a stop put to the whole matter.
this is super late I'm sorry my brain just didn't want to work, damn you nasubabble
... And then he speaks of destroying the thing - something she could never even comprehend doing to her world's Triforce - and she cannot help being struck by the conviction in his voice. She is silent for another moment, her voice still tired, but softer in a way when she speaks again.]
... You are a noble man, Waver. I imagine most would simply try to put such things behind them, not dedicate their lives to destroying such a cruel and destructive system.
[She imagines Link being forced to fight in such a war, and is quickly convinced that Waver is right.]
shhhh it happens
