[05] || [One Ring to Rule them All] || [Closed]
Characters: Gandalf, Frodo and those they called to the council.
Setting: Cathedral Floor
Format: Action
Summary: Frodo has with him a certain ring yet he cannot reach Mount Doom to destroy it. So Gandalf sent a note to a few people for a small council to be held so as to discuss the matter of utmost importance that is the ring, as it is destroying Frodo's mind and can theoretically fall into very bad hands.
Warnings: Nothing. Well, Frodo may suffer of the repercussion of what'll happen to the ring.
The Cathedral Floor was handy to organize big or small reunion-- This one was a small one and unlike Reunion that may have been held there before, this one had not been made to look fancy. ... It was Elrond's duty to make fancy-looking reunion after all. No, Gandalf had simply set a table and chairs around it so that the few people summoned could sit down and discuss.
To each of them he had sent a letter with their name on it explaining in very short why he needed them, to help Frodo (a personal matter, but if the ring was to fall in the hand of dangerous individuals in the tower, it wouldn't be so personal any more). Obviously enough, Gandalf and Frodo would be the first to be there of course.
Oh, and the room is magically protected. Non invited people and eavesdropper, you shall not pass.

he glanced over at gandalf, the two sitting side by side, offering a faint, pale smile. ]
I feel as if I am at the start of my journey, but at the same time, it's something else entirely.
[ there was something in his face then. i'm not certain this will do any good, his eyes seemed to say, but for the most part he was impassive, watching the people file in, glancing over at any he might have called familiar. here he was, face oddly blank, if not for the exhaustion written on every part of his face. ]

To help someone...he was still good at that. He could still do that. He may still be preoccupied by thoughts of his trip home, but his conscience was still very much alive. He took the note and made his way to the cathedral, stepping off the staircase and making his way towards the pews where the others sat. He doesn't know who Frodo is, but if this is him...well, he looks like he needs help. Old eyes are met with other old eyes, silently pledging what help they can give.*
Frodo | On the Matter of the Ring
what might have first been noticed was the state of the hobbit's neck. it was chafed, bruised and covered in heavy, red marks. as if whatever he carried was heavy beyond measure -- yet around it dangled a seemingly innocent gold chain, from it hung a single gold band, a ring, and once it was uncloaked, very well might have begun to stir whispers in each and every mind in the room.
promises of power, of strength to save fallen worlds, whatever crossed your mind. whether you were made of metal, it might have spared you, but all the same, the ring's whispers were not easily ignored. he spoke in a voice more like a young man's, not at all like the child he might have seemed if not for his face and eyes.]
Gandalf has long been my friend. He guided my road on many dangers, before we each took a different path. He does this meeting for my sake, and yours, and though I do not know what good can be done, at the very least, those of you among those he trusts, should know of what I carry. Of what I must do, regardless of where I am.
My name is Frodo Baggins. I am a Hobbit of the Shire, and was given the name of Ringbearer. Once I sat among nine other companions, Gandalf included, where we formed a Fellowship. It was called the Fellowship of the Ring. Each chose to accompany me on a journey of gravest danger, to destroy that which you see in a land of shadow and death, into the very fires of the mountain from which it was made.
[ his hand quietly lifted the ring, still on his neck. ]
There is a great enemy in our world, one who would be all-powerful if not for the seperation of the one thing that would make him invincible. I carry that one thing. It is the One Ring, a piece of the Dark Lord himself, and should it find it's way back to him, would make him beyond powerful. There would be no hope for any people on Middle-earth.
It had fallen into the hands of my Uncle, and though he was willing to take it again, I chose the task to take it to the fires of Mount Doom, where the Ring was forged. On the way, the Fellowship broke apart, as this Ring, began to whisper to the minds of those within our circle. I feared this continuing, and left, if not for my gardener and dearest friend, Samwise Gamgee, following me, despite my efforts to go alone.
I chose the task, and it has fallen to me, no matter the state of this world. On it, I feel that I know it far better than most, as I am it's bearer.
[ he looked around at each face, with eyes far too old for any face. ]
This Ring is evil. It cannot be worn, it cannot be taken for itself, for it has only one master, and that is Sauron. I also know that the longer one bears this ring, the more, as Gandalf once told me before, will he 'fade'. I have only one course I may take, destroy this Ring, or be destroyed by it in turn. No matter what whispers or promises you might hear it make, do not trust it. You cannot wield this Ring, just as much as I cannot, for you will lose yourself. It can only be destroyed. While I feel that it will only be destroyed by the fires in which it was made, I will not deny help, for though I cannot ask any of you to carry it, if you could destroy it, weaken it somehow, I would be thankful.
..It is a burden, I would ask no one to bear. On my part, I will keep it hidden, with me, for no matter where I am, the burden is still mine to bear. And while I am no longer in Middle-earth, it still exists, therefore a part of the Dark Lord is still very much alive -- I do not put it on, even to protect myself, for his servants will find me again. They are always seeking it.
[ quietly, he began to remove the ring from around his neck. he hesitated, something dark, twisted in his eyes, along with a sort of old pain, before he placed it in the middle of the room, on a chair. he swallowed, closed his eyes, and sat in his seat. ]
Whatever you do, do not seek to wear it. No matter what it may tell you, this Ring will not save you, or this Tower. It can, and will only destroy. I know this second only to one other, and he is warped beyond recognition because of it.
[ a pause, and wide, blue eyes meet with gandalf, and then the others ]
But..if there is a way, any, to be found, I would ask only if you could weaken it, or at least attempt.
[ it will bring me harm with each attempt, but better to try than do nothing. we have been joined together for too long. if we can be seperated even a little, then i'd rather we try. he looked up at gandalf, then, at the others, and fell silent, sitting on the edge of his seat, hand twitching in his lap, the very one that had held the ring in his hands. ]

While he's planned to come by himself, Highwind has been refusing any command along the line of "Stay" and "Sit" since about Christmas and so the bat is coming along, claws lightly digging into Riku's shoulder - grin widening and ears twitching when he recognizes Frodo from the Christmas party. So does Riku (recognize him that is), though he just offers a wave and a sympathetic frown upon seeing how tired he seems.]
Bad nights?
[That's something he's more than familiar with.]
no subject
the people here he knows are not all bad, some are good, helpful -- he would not see them be tainted by something he must contain himself. ]
no subject
I remember you. Highwind, wasn't it? Though I don't believe I ever received your name.
[ that question gives him pause, and frodo blinks a little, uncertain of how to say it, but he isn't wrong. bad nights are familiar to him. ]
Ah, yes. I imagine many have bad nights here. It isn't the most accomodating place, is it?

Enoch snapped to attention, beads of sweat on his face as he listened to Frodo and watched him place the ring down. He swallows before speaking.*
So it...promises you something you dearly want, but in return will...corrupt you. That is the way demons gain power in my world, lure souls into The Darkness. Perhaps my weapon or purification can do something.
no subject
I admit, I may not be able to help you that much. However..if you do not mind, it would like to try and weaken this ring and help you.
no subject
This was his opinion on the matter.
The entire time that Frodo spoke, Haldir found himself nearly glaring in disapproval. He had hoped to keep such evil secret from others in fear that the Administrators would soon learn about it. However, Mithrandir decided otherwise and summoned this wayward bunch to convene today.]

... There is just the slightest hint of twitching when the reason for bringing these people together is revealed. Zelda prides herself on being able to resist evil forces - the blessings of her bloodline and the relic she bears both helpful in that regard - but still, her sensitive ears hear the whispers that carry such promise. Such power.
It reminds her of Ganondorf, and she shuts the whispers out as best she can. Fiddling with a ring of her own, a gold band set with a shining red ruby, she turns her attention to Gandalf.]
How do you intend for me to be of assistance in this endeavor?
[He was, after all, the one who hand-picked who was to be here.]
no subject
[ The wizard pauses. ]
I cannot even describe how powerful they would become. And dangerous, very dangerous. Surely not enough to defy the administrators, but enough to change life as we know it in these parts of the tower. This is something that must never happen.
[ As a matter of fact any of those sitting in this room could become powerful beyond measure considering what powers they had already, what they were gifted with. But he trusted their will to be strong enough. ]
But for now, I would appreciate if you could simply help and protect Frodo. His fate is tied to that of the ring and I believe your magics may provide him some comfort would we be to try bring about an end to the ring.

However Gandalf turns to Frodo. ]
The decision lies in the ringbearer.
no subject
How does your weapon work, Enoch?
no subject
Do not worry. I am not going to force his hand or his words.
[He then turned to Frodo.]
However..what do you choose, Frodo?

[Instantly, her brows furrow, deciphering the subtext behind Gandalf's words. It's not something she likes, and her attention shifts back once again to Frodo.]
Will attempting to destroy the ring hurt you?
no subject
most hobbits when they reached their 50's were quite settled in their hobbit hole. most. it did not seem frodo was of the same cut, after all. he looks away, and even in that it seems each heavy blink takes energy. ]
I would not speak of it openly, but yes. Even when I had only begun carrying it, when put to an axe, it sent me almost out of my chair. The journey was..new, then. I do not know what I would feel now.
[ his smile is gentle, and there is sadness in it. gandalf is wise but still, there are so many young faces in the room, it feels like. he was that way, once. before this journey started. ]
The Ring has caused many hurts, it will cause many more. That is it's way. But regardless, a way must be found, and I wouldn't forsake a chance, if this company is not harmed.
[ he glanced at gandalf then, there was no pleading, nothing in his eyes but silent apology. this was not their burden to bear. ]
I would like to try.
[ either way he will still be in pain, and either way the ring will still fall as his burden. he chose this. still, his smile is gentle towards her, eyes firm. ]
It's alright.
no subject
If Gandalf trusts you, then so would I.
[ a pause ]
Please, if you could help, I would be thankful -- though it isn't safe.
no subject
Thank you for trusting me that much. I shall do what I can to weaken this Ring..but tell me if you are in any pain. I shall do what I can to help you.
[If this was a Gnosis, chaos normally would have touched it and tried to calm it. However, this was not a Gnosis. He would try a stronger approach, even if he did have to avoid the odd questions later. Quickly, a pair of wings appeared on chaos's back and, as he flew into the air so that he could properly survey the area and not hurt anyone else, he sent a rain of energy beams onto the ring.]

It's a sadistic situation.
Eventually, she accepts his willingness to try, and she bows her head, placing a hand over her heart.]
Then I will do all that I am able to mitigate the pain this effort might cause you. I am able to create barriers - perhaps shielding you will somehow disrupt the ring's connection?
[She glances between Gandalf and Frodo, looking for an answer.]

[ a sharp glance to gandalf. middle-earth cannot be lost if the burden is still here. he glances over at the man, speaking at last, voice clear, despite his height. ]
But I would see you try, regardless of the outcome.
[ but deep in his heart..frodo knew the outcome. ]
no subject
he did not speak, let alone cry out in pain, he was silent, but it was written in his face. it is nothing. it is no different, do what must be done if it can be done --the pain is terribleitisterriblegandalf.
his hand went to his chest, swallowing hard as he struggled to catch his breath. there was no doubt that was no young man, no, that person was something else entirely. he watched in silent agony as the beams were dealt upon the ring, the same beams that he felt were piercing him. ]
no subject
If there is a way to at least take back the harm, then I would take it. If there are beings so grim, then this Ring will only bring ruin to more people.
[ quietly]
Do you trust me, Legolas?
no subject
Frodo, are you alright? I am sorry..I did not mean to cause you that much pain.
no subject
[The marks on his neck worry him and he wonders, briefly, if there's anything in the infirmary that might sooth what must be a constant pain in addition to the weight the ring places on the hobbits shoulders. The elf worries, maybe more than he should or perhaps not enough.]
[Just as quietly:]
I trust you, Frodo. I'd have not volunteered to help you if I did not, nor would I have come today.
no subject
*No. Wait, this had been answered. He had been trying hard to block out the Ring's whispering.*
...I'm sorry for the pain it will cause you. I hope it won't be in vain.
*And with that, he gets up and moves closer to the Ring, raising his Arch above his head.
He hesitates, both at the thought of bringing pain to someone through this, and at the way its whispers intensified with the closeness. But setting his jaw against the very sort of temptation he had been taught to avoid from childhood, he brought the Arch down on the Ring as hard as he could with a defiant yell.*
no subject
He had not expect such a violent reaction- And the ring was unharmed. This had been a bad idea... ]
no subject
He tries to smile to Zelda when she speaks and nods, albeit it is only a faint and pained smile given the situation the Hobbit is in. ]
We would appreciate it greatly. Whilst no barrier can break the connection, I have good hope your powers may be able to limit the connection to the ring.
no subject
I'm..I'm alright.
[ he's staring at the Ring, and then at chaos. his brows furrow. ]
What...what did you do exactly?
[ was he a wizard? some sort of high being, like gandalf. he's still trying to catch his breath. ]
no subject
[ is all he'll say on the matter, glancing to gandalf from his small chair, than to the young woman in front of him. ]
There is no further harm in trying.
no subject
[ it's said quietly, but the words show enough of the trust the hobbit places in him. he glances over at everyone, quirking a brow . ]
So many sorts of people here.
no subject
Good..I am glad to hear that.
[In the back of his head, chaos sighed.]
..I attacked the Ring.
