Summary: Rei shows Ryoji how to kill monsters

Night, a time when many have already returned to their rooms for fear of the monsters roaming around. One solitary figure, though, remains outside, rocking on her heels, humming a cheerful song to herself. It seems normal enough for a girl her age, but is a little at odds with her frigidly beautiful appearance and the dark surroundings. She seems to hold no fear for the monsters, though she does take care to avoid their attacks.

It is no accident that she is out here at this time. She promised to show someone something. In a way, this is for her a ritual of bonding. Thus, she will not touch the monsters. Not until her partner arrives.

When Ryoji arrives, he will find her waiting still. Alone, unarmed, but beaming.

[terreifying]

Meanwhile, Rei finishes tearing the heart out of another imp. Whatever imps that were left alive were now scampering away.

"Wanna do the kill tally now?"

[notsogrimreaper]

Ryoji finally reverts back to his human form, breathing heavily and trying to ignore the urge to chase after the monsters.

"S-Sure..."

[terreifying]

"Here's one for you, and one for me, and two for you and two for me..."

Rei continues to count in a sing-song tone until she finishes assigning all of the imp casualties.

"We're at an exact tie tonight! Good job!"

[notsogrimreaper]

"Um... g-good. We got rid of a lot of them, didn't we?"

Ryoji doesn't care about the competition, as long as the people here are safe for a little while.

[terreifying]

"Yep!"

For Rei, saving people and killing monsters are synonymous. Since it's part of the purpose she was created for, she sees nothing wrong in enjoying it.

"Did you have fun?"

[notsogrimreaper]

"I... It was a little scary, but I'm glad I came."

That's Ryoji's only way to reply. He couldn't ever have fun killing something. Even Thanatos, with its hunger for destruction, does it out of anger or some other strong emotion, not for fun.

[terreifying]

She nods eagerly.

"If you ever wanna do it again with me, just knock on the door of 3-15, okay? I'm always up for hunting with friends!"

It might seem a bit scary to passer-bys, the way this girl, covered in blood, beautiful in a way that cannot be called human, is speaking of killing things like others would speak of going to the movies or the mall.

[notsogrimreaper]

"Right. Of course. Thank you very much, Rei-chan."

It was true. Rei was beautiful, dangerous, terrifying, inhuman... yet Ryoji liked her. She kind of reminded him of... well, of himself. They had a lot in common so far. And despite her strangeness, she was nice. Ryoji hoped they would continue to be friends.

[terreifying]

"Do you wanna go back to your room now, or do you wanna do something else?"

The night was still young, after all.

[notsogrimreaper]

"What else could we do here?"

He'd like to do something more relaxing, but he's still new here.

[terreifying]

"I could break into the kitchen and make you a midnight snack! Nobody else is in there right now so we can eat as much as we want."

Killing monsters worked up an appetite.

[notsogrimreaper]

"Ah, really? You know how to cook, Rei-chan?"

He was pretty hungry.

[terreifying]

"Basic things."

She can remember the cafeteria having some noodles. It was one dish that she did know how to make.

[notsogrimreaper]

"Better than me! I still burn toast sometimes."

[terreifying]

She giggles.

"It's easy if you don't know how hot the pan needs to be, or what to set the toaster to. It takes some time to figure out.]

[notsogrimreaper]

"I guess so. I didn't have a lot of time to learn, before."

Again, one month of actual living was not enough to teach him that.

[terreifying]

"You can learn here. There's always people cooking something."

She starts walking toward the elevator.

[notsogrimreaper]

Ryoji follows after, willingly now after he's cheered up. Rei certainly was nice enough. She just had some stranger ideas of fun sometimes.

"I'll have to keep an eye out for someone to teach me."

[terreifying]

"I'm sure you'll be able to find someone easily."

Having arrived at the elevator door, Rei presses the "Down" button several times in a row.

[notsogrimreaper]

Ryoji smiles a little at the impatience, and then waits, wondering what else to talk about.

[terreifying]

"Hey."

Rei starts again.

"Where'd you get your scarf? It's kinda cool. Looks like Kamen Rider."

[notsogrimreaper]

"Oh, this? I... really don't know. I guess it kind of just showed up with me when I got this form."

[terreifying]

"Cool! You can make clothes with you when you change shape? I always end up naked."

[notsogrimreaper]

"Er, I-I guess so? You s-shouldn't change shape here!"

Ryoji immediately reddens at the thought of the girl beside him nude.

[terreifying]

"That's awesome. Can you make different clothes too?"

She slowly shakes her head.

"Of course I'm not shapeshifting here. I only shift as I need to."
