Summary: Waver searches for her family, sulks around as Wavers do, and then explores a little.

Dormitories

[Waver doesn't want to believe what she's been told. It would be so much easier to tell herself this is a prank, or she's being held for ransom, or... something. And that's why, as soon as she's able, the magus wanders the dormitory floors with only one goal on her mind...]

Brother! Brother? Derry! Where have you gone? Derry...!

[The girl's search for her sibling is more than a little frantic, and she'll stop to ask anyone if they've seen him, whether she recognises them or not.]

Floor 4

[After giving up her search, Waver can be found sulking in an out-of-the-way chair with her bowl of oatmeal and a small pile of books pilfered from the library. Every now and then she makes a note of something on her phone, but for the most part she just looks like your average Waver, trying to distract herself.]

[Eventually she'll get bored with reading and attempt to go exploring. She's not daft enough to leave the stairs on any floor that looks suspicious, but sometimes things don't go according to plan, do they? It only occurs to her after some time that she should probably rush back to her room before nightfall, if what she heard was true...]

[Confused is better than crying, though Diarmuid has to laugh at his slip up.]

My apologies. Iskander, also known as Alexander the Great, was summoned as the servant Rider on my world. I am going to guess that your Iskander is another reincarnated Heroic Spirit, right? He would be a very large man, with red hair and a very...loud personality.

[Well, that gets a smile out of her. No more tears! FOR NOW.]

That's right! I don't know that I'd call him loud, when he's actually a bit shy with me, but I find him very charming.

[Alexander the Great, shy? That idea brings an amused twinkle to Diarmuid's eyes. It is hard to imagine that man shy at all, but he had only ever seen him ready for war. Perhaps the great King of Conquerors had a softer side only certain people got to see?]

And has he treated you well? If you call him charming, I would guess he did.

[He can't imagine Rider not treating someone he cared about well--though whose definition of well might be up for debate. However, if she had fought with her dear brother about this, does that mean there is something Diarmuid is missing?]

[She's glad someone understands. The only person on her side this time was her mum, and that almost never happens.]

He has! He even gave me a Saber figure for a present, although Derry didn't approve of it. But I thought it was very... him. Sometimes that means more than flowers or sweets, don't you think?

[You don't understand, Diarmuid. Derry loves his little sister!]

Yes, you are right. And the gift was for you after all, so if you liked it that should be all that matters.

[Diarmuid gives her shoulder a gentle squeeze.]

And try not to be too upset with your brother. He is just doing what all brothers do. He is being over protective of his sister and feels no one is good enough for her. I know my boys were that way about their sister.

[No, he has no idea how much Derry loves his sister. It's probably better that way...]

No, that's not-- I'm not upset with Derry. I'm... I'm upset that arguing with him will be the last memory I h-have--

[CRYING WAVER 2: RETURN OF THE WATERWORKS. Fortunately, she doesn't understand how much Derry loves her either, so NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW.]

[He just can't help it. At those tears, even though it might not be his place to do so, Diarmuid pulls her into his arms, rubbing her back to try and calm her.]

Easy. Just because they say our worlds are gone, doesn't mean they are. They have lied to use before and there is both proof for them being gone and proof for them not being so. And, if you feel as if the evidence is strong enough that they are gone, there are rumors that people were working on a way to return them to normal so all is not lost.

[He doesn't mention that the person who had been working on that is now dead, though.]

[Papa would have a fit if he caught her crying like this in a public hallway. Waver tries to tell herself this to calm herself down, but it doesn't help, because papa is gone and Derry is gone and Enkidu and Iskander and everything else she cared about. Gone, gone, gone. Waver leans against the familiar-but-not man and sobs harder than she has since she was little, unable to hold back anymore.]

I've n-never been separated from him be-before, I don't know if I c-can handle it... I'm only tough because he.. he's m-my knight...

[Diarmuid continues to hold her, rubbing her back and making soft comforting sounds. It may hurt, but it is probably good for her to get it out now so she can be strong for the rest of her time in this place.]

Shhh... It's all right. You will be all right. There are plenty of people who will help you here. They may not be the family you left behind, but they are still a family. They will help you stand until you can stand on your own.

[He pulls back from her slightly, gently cupping her face in his hand so he can look into her eyes.]

I know I am not your brother, but I will do whatever I can to help you. You can always come to me when you are in need. If you do not think you can stand alone right now, then we will work together to make you stronger--to make you into someone who your brother can be proud of. Someone who can carry on the memory of that brave knight.

[If she weren't crying already, those words would probably move Waver to tears. Sometimes it's hard, being a magus and an heir and a rebel and a perfect student and everything else she tries to be. Hearing those words, even if they come from someone who isn't her real brother... all Waver can do is nod, and then throw her arms around him in a hug. She doesn't trust herself to speak coherently.]

[Diarmuid returns the hug. She may not believe herself very strong now, but he knows two other versions of her and both of them are much stronger than they think they are. He knows she will be all right.]

Even if you can't believe in yourself, I believe in you. You will be okay.
