Finally, another party

Setting: Meadow
Format: Anything goes
Summary: Lancer throws his brother a party. Everyone can come except for the Archer (meaning they can come crash the party anyways)! Feel free to tag into any of the threads set up or invent your own scenario.
Warnings: None yet!

[It had taken some preparing, but the party was finally set up in a satisfactory way. There was a table for food and drink dragged in from the cafeteria, a wooden bucket filled with water with fruit floating in it, a strange paper mache Jason head pinata stacked on a scarecrow body, and a board with a pig with a Ganon head scribbled on it along with several spiraling paper "tails" attached to thumbtacks. There are no party decorations, but Lancer figures the flowers and sunshine should be decoration enough.]

[Now it's just a matter of waiting for people to show up.]

[Diarmuid laughs.]

That is why we we make the fire outside, little one. The kind of cooking he and I would know would mostly be of the outdoor sort because, yes, otherwise we might burn something down.

[He picks up a plate, putting some onto it and then holds it up for her so she can try some.]

[At that, Yotsuba smiled and nodded, and while she talked, she speared one of the meatballs with her kebab stick.]

Ah! Okay then...oh..but I forgot. What's a knight?

[She was aware of the concepts of presidents and governments, but not old knights and royalty. After she asked, she ate the meatball.]

[Diarmuid grins and watches her as she eats. He should probably tell her to eat it more proper manner, but why ruin her fun?]

Is it good?

Do you know what a king or a lord is? They are someone who rules over an area and the people who live in it. They make the rules and make sure that everyone is taken care of and that they follow those rules. Knights are a lord's trusted warriors who work in his name when he cannot be someplace.

[It is an extremely simplified explanation, but hopefully it is enough to satisfy her curiosity.]

[Well, it wasn't like there was a fork that she could see..at least, if there was one, she hadn't noticed it. However, at that explanation, she looked a bit puzzled, but interested and happy.]

It is, but isn't that the guvernment? It builds schools and really tall buildings and has police protect people from bad people!

[Diarmuid nods.]

You are correct. Those are the names given to the people who take care of those things in modern day. Back in my day, it was the lord and his knights who did those things. I lived for the first time a long, long time ago so things have changed a lot since then.

Oh..so they were the old versions of the guvernment. But you don't look that old! If it all happened a long time ago, why aren't you old too?

[Oh...how does he even begin to explain what he is to someone as young as Yotsuba?]

It is a long story. Do you know much about magic, little one?

[From the beginning..but very, very carefully. At the question, Yotsuba looked even more puzzled, but she did her best to answer honestly.]

A..a little bit! Magicians can pull things out of nowhere and make things vanish, right?!

[He's not even going to go that far into it if he can avoid it. Just too many complex concepts.]

It is something like that. How magic is used varies widely between worlds and on my world there is more than one magical reason that I do not look as old as I really am.

Oh! So you used magic to make yourself look younger! Yotsuba understands now!

[..Not really, but on some level, she gets it.]

[Diarmuid laughs.]

I didn't use it on myself. Someone used the magic on me, but that is close enough.

Oh..why did someone want you to look young?

If I understand how things worked right, it was not so much my age that they cared about, but my strength. This is when I was my strongest and so this is the age they wanted me to be at. That way I could use all of my skills to their fullest should the need arise.

[And that opened up one final question for Yotsuba.]

That makes sense! I understand! So a newer guvernment used magic to make you younger so that you could help them!

[Diarmuid laughs. The power of the World itself could hardly be called 'new,' but...]

Something like that. Only in my case, it wasn't the government so much as it was the World itself. That is where the magic came from originally and others then used it to call people like me to help them.

[...This just further confused Yotsuba.]

So..people used the magic in the world..to call you? But where did they call you from?

Yes, that would be correct. After all, when you think of the world around you, it seems alive doesn't it? All the plants and animals...they create their own kind of energy--their own kind of magic--and some people are able to use that.

[Diarmuid pauses here. How does he explain the Throne of Heroes to her when honestly no one really knows exactly what it is and how it does what it does?]

As from where, that is harder to explain. I think for now I will just say that there is a place where people like me rest when we aren't needed. That is the place we are called from and where we return to once our work is done.

[As Yotsuba tried to process this information, the smile fell from her face.]

It does..but how can people use it? And Yotsuba understands a little..you live in a place with other strong knights and help out people when you're called!

[Diarmuid's expression saddens a little. This is an answer he legitimately can't give her.]

Unfortunately, little one, I don't know. I was never blessed with the power of magic. My father had it and several people around me had it, but I never did. All I could do was watch and watching really doesn't explain how things work very well.

However, yes that is pretty much right for where I live.

[Or sleep, or exist or whatever they do on the Throne whenever they aren't needed.]

[Yotsuba noticed that sad expression, but she smiled nonetheless and did her best to cheer Diarmuid up.]

That's okay! Yotsuba doesn't have magic either, but we're still good people! Don't worry about it!

[Her excitement does brighten his expression.]

You are right, of course. One can't be good at everything, after all. I am a fighter. Helping people and keeping them safe is what I do. I will leave the magic to others.

[While that was a good thing to do, in Yotsuba's point of view, Diarmuid had forgotten one very important thing.]

Yup! Because you're a good person..but you're not just a fighter! You helped my leg, remember?

Yes, but I was certainly not the best person to heal your leg. I wish I could have done more.

[He reaches out and gently tweaks her nose.]

But, you are right. I know some basic ways to heal. It just isn't my specialty.

[Yotsuba wasn't quite used to having her nose tweaked, but she smiled at it anyway before replying, a bit puzzled about one word.]

But you did a lot! My leg felt better, and the song was great! What's a spe..specialty though?

Do you know people who are really good at doing specific things? So good that is what their work is or what they spend a lot of their free time doing? Those things are their specialties. They are things that person is really good at.

For example, one of my specialties is that I can fight well with two weapons at once. Most people can only handle one.
