Midsummer Bash

Characters: Lancer, the people he invited to the party, and everyone else who wants to stumble in
Setting: Floor 25, July 5, afternoon
Format: Open
Summary: Lancer throws a party for midsummer, since the Tower obviously needs a breather.
Warnings: None so far.

[To be honest, Lancer wanted to have the party in the evening, sometime around twilight. That would have been the most romantic time for it. Unfortunately, when in the Tower, one had to account for things like monsters. As a result, he had to hold it during the afternoon. But it wasn't too bad of a compromise.]

[This was, of course, a more simple affair than Diarmuid's birthday. For food, he had hauled a couple of tables up here and lined the table with dinner food. The centerpiece was a cake which had a heart drawn on it in red frosting. In one corner of the meadow, he had used some boxes and tarp to make some sort of booth where people could hide from the sun (and steal kisses off of each other). In the center of the meadow, he had piled a large stack of wood, perfect for lighting a bonfire by the party's end. The structures had all been surrounded with wreaths made from the meadow's flowers.]

[As soon as he's done with the setup, Lancer will sit down next to the firewood pile, waiting for people to come.]

[He freezes, and then slowly turns around.]

Archer.

[He glares at the other Servant.]

Not your business. I didn't invite you.

[bowandblade]

[Archer waves one hand dismissively, leaning back on the other hand. He's in no hurry to get up.]

You did not have to! I am welcome everywhere!

[He swings his legs carelessly, smiling.] Tell me what this is about.

[puppy_lancer]

It's a midsummer party. It's late, but I was busy.

[Three guesses as to what that is.]

[He crosses his arms.]

And if you're gonna come, you need to behave.

[bowandblade]

Busy.

[He smiles wider at the emphasis, laughing just a little before nodding.]

I behaved perfectly well at the last party. [Well. Besides yelling Ayaka's name throughout the ballroom, but that was necessary.] There were no complaints at your roommate's party, either.

[puppy_lancer]

Hm.

[He stays silent for a while, considering his options.]

Fine. But you have to help me set up this stuff.

[bowandblade]

[He huffs at Lancer's proposal.]

Do I look like I am here for manual labor? I am here to relax.

[puppy_lancer]

Put up the tarp and you can relax even better.

[He throws the tarp at Archer.]

[bowandblade]

[Not having expected that, Archer takes the tarp in the face, and he levels a glare at Lancer before sliding off the table.

...Figuring out what to do with the tarp might take awhile, though.]

[puppy_lancer]

[Lancer silently sets up the supports for the tarp. He's waiting for Archer to help him.]

[bowandblade]

[Glancing over at Lancer and the supports, Archer walks over with the tarp and starts unfolding it.]

What is this for, anyway? It is not that hot.

[Says the Sumerian king.]

[puppy_lancer]

Well, no. But it makes for a nice atmosphere, doesn't it? A nice shade over your head, flowers under your feet...

[bowandblade]

It sounds intimate. [To which he gives the sky a look.] But the time of day is wrong, if that is what you are going for.

[puppy_lancer]

If it wasn't for the monsters, I'd be able to get a better time.

[bowandblade]

[He doesn't look terribly impressed, but that could be because he's Gilgamesh.

Instead of responding, he flaps the open tarp over Lancer's head.]

[puppy_lancer]

[Lancer catches a corner and starts pulling it over the support. He doesn't say anything either.]

[bowandblade]

[Archer tugs out the other corners and takes the opposite tarp corner to the matching support. He waits long enough to get an idea from Lancer on what he's supposed to do with the tarp, then affixes his corner.

Once the tarp is successfully up, he's going to march right back to his wine bottle.]

[puppy_lancer]

...Thanks.

[Lancer adjusts the seat in the booth and voila. Done.]

I'm gonna go get wood for the bonfire now. You gonna help me tow it, or do I just leave you here?

[bowandblade]

[Archer looks skeptical at the mentioning of a bonfire, but turns and considers his wine before smirking at Lancer.]

If you actually need the help, why not?

[puppy_lancer]

Even if I didn't, you'd probably get bored up here and do who know what if I wasn't dragging you along, won't you? Archer?

[He starts heading toward the stairwell.]

[bowandblade]

I can entertain myself just fine! You should be happy I am coming along!

[If not for the haughty tone, one could perceive Archer's words as kinda pouty. He leaves the bottle on the table and walks on after Lancer, whistling tunelessly.]

you know you really know each other when...

[puppy_lancer]

Uh-huh.

[And then he's rushing down the stairs toward the sixth floor.]

[bowandblade]

[The whistling dissolves into laughter as Archer speeds off after Lancer. Maybe he won't catch up to Lancer if he goes at his full speed, but it was a reason to sail through the tower at Servant levels.]

[puppy_lancer]

[Of course, Lancer increases his own speed as he hears Archer coming after him. While not at full speed yet, he wouldn't let Archer beat him down the stairs, especially not when he had the head start.]

[bowandblade]

[Lancer has the advantage of speed, but that does not keep Archer from leaping and taking shortcuts at every opportunity. Even something like this could entertain him, and he found it that much more enjoyable knowing that he would be returning to a party shortly after.]

[puppy_lancer]

[The two of them keep neck and neck, and by the time that Lancer is at the proper floor, he's already running at top speed. He more or less slides into the entrance of the floor the way a baseball player would slide into a base.]
