Midsummer Bash

Setting: Floor 25, July 5, afternoon
Format: Open
Summary: Lancer throws a party for midsummer, since the Tower obviously needs a breather.
Warnings: None so far.

[To be honest, Lancer wanted to have the party in the evening, sometime around twilight. That would have been the most romantic time for it. Unfortunately, when in the Tower, one had to account for things like monsters. As a result, he had to hold it during the afternoon. But it wasn't too bad of a compromise.]

[This was, of course, a more simple affair than Diarmuid's birthday. For food, he had hauled a couple of tables up here and lined the table with dinner food. The centerpiece was a cake which had a heart drawn on it in red frosting. In one corner of the meadow, he had used some boxes and tarp to make some sort of booth where people could hide from the sun (and steal kisses off of each other). In the center of the meadow, he had piled a large stack of wood, perfect for lighting a bonfire by the party's end. The structures had all been surrounded with wreaths made from the meadow's flowers.]

[As soon as he's done with the setup, Lancer will sit down next to the firewood pile, waiting for people to come.]

...I guess your Saber is a king before she's anything else too.

[He remembers what the black Saber had said. Kings had to be alone.]

[ Shirou looks disgruntled by the reminder. ]

It's a ridiculous way of thinking. [ He muttered angrily, but it should be clear he isn't denying Lancer's remark. ]

[puppy_lancer]

It's something that served her well once. Not now.

[He's just a little more understanding about this since he's a Heroic Spirit.]

Or rather, it didn't serve her well. It served her country well. It just...doesn't apply anymore.

[ You cannot protect people with human emotions, right. He remembered what he knew of her. Saber had served her country, not herself. ]

Yeah. But I'm not certain she realizes that. [ He ran his fingers through his hair. ] Or if she does realize that, and still won't quit with it.

[puppy_lancer]

I think it might be the latter. She's not dumb.

[Lancer is the resident Tower Idiot]

[ Lancer, do you really think that. ]

[Blank staring back. Maybe Saber Alter had been right to call her other self naive...]

[ Don't underestimate broken people and their ideals. ]

It's, not so much as she's dumb, she isn't but...

[puppy_lancer]

[He cocks his head.]

So...uh...what is she?

[heroicprinciple]

[ If I was smart and preceptive, I would tell you that her self-esteem's horrible, and she doesn't think she deserves good things so she just sticks to habits like that stupid way of thinking and being self-destructive, and eats self-loathing for breakfast.

But I'm not!1 ]

I don't know if she's ever actually considered stopping with that way of thinking here.

[If I were smart and articulate, I'd reply my brother was the same way until everyone gave him a lot of love and support and now he's a chivalrous idiot who actually has some confidence.]

[But again, I'm not!]

Of course not. Chivalry and self-sacrifice is part of her, since she's a knight and all. But just because she hasn't considered being any other way doesn't mean she can't notice that some of her actions might hurt her.

[ Awesome!

But not really. Shirou looks frustrated, like he's trying to convey a point and it's working but poorly. Or Lancer is correct, but he doesn't know how to word his response. ]

I know that. But just because Saber knows some of her actions hurt her doesn't mean Saber thinks it was the wrong way to behave. [ He sighs. ] ... She needn't be alone here.

[puppy_lancer]

I'll tell my brother to hang around her more.

[And now he feels guilty about taking up so much of Diarmuid's time...]

Who's your brother?

[ Just checking here. ]

[puppy_lancer]

His name is Diarmuid Ua Duibhne. He's the best knight I've met so far.

Hm, I see. [ Oh, another Irish Servant.

Diarmuid... of the Love Spot, right? Good thing mythology is actually one subject Shirou pays attention to so he can spew out long, walltext mental monologues about their adventures when the player learns their identities. ]

I see why he and Saber would get along then. They're both honorable people.

[puppy_lancer]

Aren't they? He gets along better with the white one, though. The black one keeps on calling him naive. And he's really not. He's always thinking back on his chivalry.

[heroicprinciple]

The white Saber is the one I know. [ Shirou doesn't really have the room to say whether or not somebody else's ideal, or chivalry, was naive. He doesn't even know the guy anyway. So he settles for a shrug. ]

Well then, I guess you'd know more about what he thinks of his chivalry than I do.

You can talk to him to. You want to be a hero, don't you? You can learn some stuff from him.
