Summary: Riki's offered a way to help keep the Tower powered a little longer. Obviously this is going to cause a lot of discussion and debate so let's CONSOLIDATE
Warnings: Nothing as of yet. Possibly eventually, so keep an eye on subject lines and I 'll try to change to reflect any developments

[No doubt Riki's announcement would be polarizing, but the instructions themselves were clear: Floor 1 at noon if you want to help out. And if you want to meet people, try to talk them in or out of it? Or hell, maybe even just talk about the revelation on who is behind those explosions? Well, this is as good a place as any for that too.

Not surprisin'. Once you get into da big time, you start gettin' people wantin' to make comic books, cartoon shows, an' action figures outta ya. Video games, too.

[Oh boy. David can't wait to get into the details on this. Suffice to say, that grin hasn't left his face.]

'Course! Dat's how it is with anybody who gets famous, yanno? Just in our case, we got famous for savin' people an' stoppin' crimes.

[His grin turns a little wry.]

Just, uh—gettin' a good agent for handlin' all dat, 'sa bit more important for a hero.

Ah yeah? Sounds like fun. Wouldn't mind bein' the hero of a video game myself.

Just so long as it don't pose a threat to your work. I mean, you look like da soldier type, so you wouldn't want da bad guys findin' out about your weaknesses, right? Trust me, dat's happened.

[Reno looks down at his Raven uniform briefly and raises an eyebrow.]

Actually, I'm an intelligence agent, but yeah, I get ya.

Huh.

[He can't help but think of the Malta Group, seeing an intelligence agent in a uniform like that.]

Gotta admit I'm curious—but if you're some kinda agent, den I bet da details are probably all "I'd tell ya but den I'd have to kill ya."

[It's not his real uniform, alas, but it is the best clothes he has for the moment.]

Doesn't really matter anymore. I've been here or there... [meaning dead planet] for almost two years now. I got no illusions 'bout ever going home and I kinda doubt any of you'll follow me there.

[Shrug.]

I'm over the whole keeping secrets shit.

[Oof. The Tower's beaten him down that much, huh? Well—he can't be too surprised. Something out there killing entire alternate dimensions ... on the face of it, trying to fix something like that seems impossible for anyone.]

[... but coming from Primal Earth as he does, David's still not ready to accept that the impossible isn't doable.]

Arright, well, what kinda agency did ya work for back home? 'Cause I don't think you'd be doin' da tuxedos-an'-martinis thing with a uniform like dat.

[midgarhorizon]

[That right there is honest, outright laughter- really the first time in a long time, really. Kinda feels good to laugh.]

This? This uniform isn't mine. [He's calming down a bit.] No, strike that, well, it's mine, but I got it as a 'gift' from Riki the last time shit happened durin' his watch. Y'know what they say, disguise yourself as one of the enemy. They called 'em the Ravens, and they were a nasty bunch.

[He rubs his head in embarrassment a bit.]

But really, it's the last thing I got that isn't completely fucked.

[The laughter causes David to quirk an eyebrow, though it's not something Reno will probably notice, given how half his face is occluded by that visor.]

So Riki's got some kinda sense of humor den? Givin' you da uniform of some group you fight back home?

[David readjusts the cigar in his mouth before speaking up again.]

What were dem Ravens like? Some other country's secret service?

Yeah, he's got a weird one, that's for sure. He's the guy that made that floor with all the razor sharp bars in it, y'know?

[If the Ravens were a secret service, legitimately, it might not have been so hard to deal with them.]

No, they were super soldiers altered by a terrorist organization. The intent was summoning one of the beasts that'd destroy the world at end time. Or some shit like that. Easiest way to explain it. Not real bright.

Oh, dat type. Apocalyptic nutcases. An' dey had da moolah to make super-soldiers on top of dat, huh?

[David's expression turns sour.]

Wonder if they felt like dey got deir wish when dat universe-killin' whatsit struck.

Nah, my team took 'em down way before that happened. Uh, maybe six months, a year. Don't quote me on that, sometimes can't tell how long it's been mission to mission, y'know?

[megazero_to_superhero]

Yeah, I getcha. Well, good thing ya did—an' believe me, if I got anything to say about it, dey ain't havin' da last laugh.

[midgarhorizon]

Never thought about it that way.

[AVALANCHE had certainly tried to do away with humanity... somehow he didn't think he really wanted to know what they thought about it, though.]

Y'don't have to go, you know.

[David shakes his head.]

I've been sittn' on my hands in dis tower for too long, 'cause I convinced myself dere ain't nothin' I can do to help anybody without all my gear.

[Then he looks up at the roof.]

An' dis is somethin' dat won't require any of dat. Somethin' I can do to help save all our butts.

[midgarhorizon]

[Reno opens his mouth for a moment, about to say something, but hesitates before speaking.]

The gear don't make the man.

[megazero_to_superhero]

Right. Dat's what I've had to tell myself. Powers or no powers, gear or no gear, a hero's gonna find a way to do what's right.

[He looks kind of guilty, actually.]

So dat's why I'm here. I gotta start makin' up for all dis time I've spent sittin' out.

Sometimes it doesn't matter if you sit out or not around here. It's about finding out what we can do, so don't feel too bad. Some of us have been here years and we don't know much more than we started with. Kinda down to chance.

Sometimes what matters is if you're helpin' out in the little things.

[He holds out a hand.]

Name's Reno.

[David's guilt melts away as he listens to Reno, replaced by a more positive look of determination. He nods in agreement, then when Reno offers his hand, David grins and gives him a firm handshake.]

Reno, eh. Nice to meetcha—present circumstances aside, heh.

[Though, "present circumstances aside" could apply to the Tower regardless of what's happening, couldn't it ...]

I take it you've been pretty involved in findin' out what stuff we can do? Given you're an intel agent an' all.

[midgarhorizon]

Yeah, same. And you could say that. Hasn't been easy, people've been pretty tight lipped...

[Shrug.]

I'm involved with Ragnarok.

Dat's been a stickin' point for me, too. People don't wanna discuss stuff where da admins're watching. But where da heck is safe in dis tower?

[David's curious as to what Ragnarok is, but he'll ask in a minute. The name does strike him as amusing, though, given what Reno was fighting against in his own world.]
