"My emotions told me that it was not a good idea to kill him, yes. He brought us back to life in a predictable and reliable manner. He knew the most about how our bodies work. Who knows if we have lost valuable information that might have helped us escape this place," Diarmuid sighs and shakes his head. "And it terrifies me to think Ruana will likely be the one who is bringing us back to life now. If she feels like it that is..."

Taiki nodded slowly, that was a very frightening thought. That Ruana was the one who would bring them back now that Jason was dead.

"It was bad... just because it was bad and people shouldn't hurt others."

"An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind," Diarmuid says the phrase softly and sadly. There had been a reason the rules his people had about killing people for their deeds were so strict. If everyone turned around and killed those who hurt them it would never stop. Of course, rules changed during times of war, but...

"It was bad, but maybe we will find a way to draw good from it in the end. There must be...something..."

Though, he doesn't sound very confident. He hopes, but sometimes it is really hard to keep hoping in this place...

"Maybe... But it still wont make the bad thing go away." He hugged his knees again, "Do... um do you think we will be able to escape? And bring the worlds back?"

"Nothing can make the bad go away once it has happened. All we can do is make sure that something is learned from it so that not all is lost," Diarmuid falls quiet for a moment after that, thinking on how to best answer Taiki's next questions. Finally, he speaks again, "I choose to believe that we will. Focusing on failure will only lead us down that path, and there is too much I do not wish to lose to do that."

Taiki nodded, "I want to go back... I think everyone does and if we try hard enough we will. It just seems so... sorry... so big." His eyes went back to the graves he was by.

Diarmuid reaches out to give Taiki's hands a comforting squeeze, "It's all right to be worried or even scared. It is a big task and time seems to be slipping away faster and faster. However, what you can't do is let those things convince you that we aren't making progress. We have taken several small steps very quickly. I believe soon we will be taking much bigger ones and then the task will finally start seeming to be not so big."

Taiki blinked at Diarmuid and nodded, "I guess..." Small steps would all build up and they would get there. He wanted to believe they could do it so he nodded firmly and snuggled closer against Diarmuid.

Diarmuid allows the boy closer, reaching up to lightly stroke his hair to comfort him, "Just don't give up on yourself or the rest of us. We will make it. The path is bound to be full of mistakes, but as long as we don't give up on each other and our abilities to learn from those mistakes, we can do anything we need to do. We will win."

"But..." Taiki blinked up at him, "What if they hurt more people... I don't want anyone else to die... even... even if that is what it takes to win."

Why was this so hard?

"I know. I don't want anyone else to be hurt either, but there is sadly no way to guarantee that. All we can do is try our best and be there for each other when those mistakes happen," Diarmuid's arm tightens slightly around the boy. He wishes he could tell Taiki that there would be no more blood shed or pain, but he knows that would be a lie.

There is nothing easy or fair about this life they are living. All they can do is hang onto each other and keep fighting no matter what.

Taiki nodded and was silent for a while, crying softly. Because Diarmuid is right, there isn't any way to guarantee that people won't be hurt.

Diarmuid remains quiet, gently rocking Taiki in hopes that it will help the boy calm down, knowing he needs the time to process all that has happened. He still can't help but wonder how Taiki has managed to survive in a place this cruel. Obviously, he is stronger than he realizes.

"We will find a way. We will."

Taiki was grateful for the comfort, though he felt bad at the same time, because surely Diarmuid had better things to do that sit here with him. There must be a lot to do, people were probably injured and Taiki thought he should go and help heal them.

But he still hadn't quite got the hang of the healing after getting his real powers and Aqua, who had taught him, was long gone from the tower.

Taiki shouldn't feel bad. This kind of comfort and support is really the only kind Diarmuid can give. He has no magical healing abilities and his knowledge of treating injuries is restricted to very rough field medicine. He's learned a few things since coming to the Tower, but he is sure that there are others much more suited then he for helping anyone who is injured. He will stay just as long as he is needed.

Besides, it gives him something to think about besides how upset he is with the others. Already, talking with Taiki has helped him sort out a few thoughts from his initial emotional reactions. It's a good start.

we can wrap if you like, unless there's anything else?

[personal profile] notagiraffe 2014-03-02 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Taiki closed his eyes for a moment, feeling safe. Even though Diarmuid smelled faintly of blood he hadn't tried to tell him that it was a good thing that had happened. And though Taiki knew he probably didn't understand why Taiki was upset he had been nice and was upset himself.

Gyousou would like him, he thought. Someone else who was scary but kind all at the same time.
oathshackledbird: Calm (Calm)

o7 Just wanted to give him a chance if there was anything he wanted to say after calming down.

It's a relief when Taiki seems to fully relax and calm. The flinch from before had really worried Diarmuid, but now that all seems to be passed or at least as much as can be so quickly. It is going to take everyone a while to recover from this. However, as long as they stick together, Diarmuid is sure they can do it.

They have to.
