Summary: Jason's dead. So are a lot of other people. Fallout and picking up the pieces.

... I understand. More than you could ever know, I think. I still remember the first time I killed someone.

[He reaches out, across the table, trying to take her hand in his.]

It was my brother, and it was for a less noble cause than yours. It's a story that's still told in my world, thousands of years later. It... never truly leaves you.... heh. Well. I can't forget anything, but even so, I've known many people who have killed. The first time is always... hard.

[It gets easier, he wants to tell her, but that's not what she needs right now.]

It's understandable. No one will blame you for needing time to recover. Rest helps sometimes, despite dreams. Keeping yourself occupied with other things, like hobbies, can help. Making sure you eat and drink properly, so you don't get sick, is also useful. And spending time with others, if you can.

You have a lot of friends here. Go to them, and ask them for help - not as a leader, but as a friend. They'll help you, because they care about you. ... Or if they don't help you, they're not very good friends.

[Jason was despicable. A monster doomed by his own actions to die one way or another, whether it be by the residents' hands or Ruana's own. But no matter how she tries to rationalize it, it's as he says; the haunted, hollowed out feeling doesn't dissipate, the heavy weight settled across her shoulders doesn't lift.

She doesn't resist when he places his hands over her own, but she does watch them. It's easier than trying to look him in the eye.]

We have so little time left, now...

[The conflict is easy to read on her face: she needs time, she knows she needs time, but with all the responsibilities she's placed on herself, she cannot help feeling guilty when time is such a precious resource.

She shakes her head, trying to clear that thought away in favor of another.]

I will... try.

[It's all she can do, now, really.]

Please do try. You deserve at least that much, I think.

[Just don't mention him being nice to anyone. Or he'll deny it forever.]

[The Grump Whisperer's ways are mysterious and irresistible. Her methods, incalculable. Amidst all her other secrets, it is the one shared by no one, for none would understand-- nay, comprehend. It would surely drive lesser minds to madness.

Just don't be a dick in the near future and she won't have to hold it over your head, Naoya.]

... Thank you.

[She smiles, finally looking up, though it can hardly be called joyful. Still, there is genuine gratitude there.]

[He offers her another awkward smile.]

You're welcome.

[He gets up and lets go of her hand.]

You know how to find me if you need me.
