Taking the long road home

Summary: Jason's dead. So are a lot of other people. Fallout and picking up the pieces.

[Hidden Floor]
Ones that dealt with the hunting game.
His face is grim if she looks at him before letting him know she's there... he's too focused on what he's doing right now.]
[Hidden Floor]
The expression on his faces tells her plenty. That he's busy and focused, to leave him be for the time being until he has wrapped up his work. Finding a nearby bench, Elena sits, the relief a blessing for her leg. After several moments, she lays back, an arm tucked beneath her head as a pillow, watching him out of the corner of her eye, waiting for the tell-tale signs he was wrapping up.]

[He sets the papers he's working with away, tucked into a folder.]
How are you doing?
no subject
[She wasn't going to get used to it. Hearing him say her name without its usual affection. Hands move to her sides, pushing her into a seated position, stretching legs out in front of her to work out aching joints.]
Miserable. Something is off kilter with the resurrection process. Delays. Old injuries remaining and new ones present. I think I accidentally gave Shion a scare...
[Its all business and professionalism because its safe.]
I'm going to have my team keep an eye on the comms and watch the clinic to see if there are more cases. Maybe identify trends, if there are any.
no subject
Yeah, I know. I've been getting reports from the others about it. There's no need to check trends.
[He rests his hands on the table then, flat against the top and fingers splayed, like he's about to get up and needs the extra leverage.]
I was afraid of this happening. It's the exact same thing that happened last time Jason abandoned his post. This's why I told everyone we needed Jason alive. Problem is nobody's thinking.
[And then, he pauses after that almost but not quite vehement confession, wondering what kind of insanity is going through his head.]
Kinda weird. Usually I was the one that never bothered thinking about what'd happen. Can't help wishing Ganondorf's plan succeeded and killed the bastard first. He should've died on our terms; not hers.

[Hands idly work at the sore muscle around the angry, purple bruise for a few moments before pulling her skirt down as far as it would go to cover it.]
Can't speak for the others - our small group went in just to get those trapped out. If anybody was crazy enough to go after Jason the way he was in there and think they could succeed. [She makes an audible 'tsking' sound.] Had everybody known or remembered that this was the outcome, I would hope they would reign in their rage and lust for revenge.
[Her head gives a little nod, eyes lowering.]
Agreed. Though I say our luck in actually having one of their deaths be because of us is slim to none. I just hate seeing Ruana one-up us all the time.
no subject
Yeah, I know you went in to get the trapped out. And then you got yourself killed by attacking Jason. That reminds me...
[His tone warns of an impending Lecture; it's the same kind Tseng used when things went south.]
What the hell did you think you were doing going after him? You died, and there was a damned good chance you wouldn't have come back. Care to explain?
no subject
[There's a moment of confusion before shoulders square and her head turns back up at him.]
I think you might be a little, I don't know, confused by what you saw. I did not seek out to attack Jason. Our mission objective was to go in and get the trapped out. However, when paths crossed, I had to do what I could to keep his attention while the rest of the group didn't get killed.
