Something like a fish with trees for wings. And I'm about the size of a city.

...Wow, I never would have expected that from you.

If you did, you'd have to have a wild imagination.

I guess I’m not that imaginative… so, what happened?

[heavenscorpse]

The Earth died. This happens to every planet eventually, so it's not so bad, but humans outlived the Earth using technology, and that didn't follow the natural order. It frightened the Earth that its creatures could outlive it, and it sent out a distress signal to the other planets.

The other planets sent out their strongest beings to wipe out the remains of humanity. One of them was me.

Humans are very resilient beings when they want to be. I’m surprised that they managed to survive, but I shouldn’t be.

So what happened to you? Did you want to wipe the humans out?

[Ryoji is shocked, and can’t help but ask a few questions, but in all honesty, he doesn’t seem hurt or angry. He has experience with something similar, after all.]

At the time, I wasn't 'intelligent'. I didn't have a consciousness. It was only after I was killed and landed on what used to be Earth that I started to absorb concepts like 'thought'.

So… you were killed by the humans, and then gained this body as well as your consciousness? Is that what happened?

[Ryoji often has to use the quotes to explain his own situation, so he doesn’t much mind.]

That's it exactly.

I see… so then what happened?

[heavenscorpse]

To me, or to humans?

[notsogrimreaper]

To the both of you.

Well, because my body was the only thing on the planet that could naturally support life, a lot of people moved there. One of them was the person who killed me, so I said hello to him - like this - and tried to move in with him, and he threw me out the window.

[She's smiling fondly when she says this.]

[notsogrimreaper]

He threw you out the window? S-So he definitely hadn’t forgiven you, huh…

[He laughs nervously.]

Oh, no, that's not it. He didn't know what I was at that point. And I didn't know what 'revenge' meant then.

Or 'cleaning', so when I tried to clean his apartment it looked really bad.

Ah… so you had a lot to learn, and you made a bad impression… Did he forgive you afterwards?

[heavenscorpse]

I think so. We lived together for a few months after he figured he couldn't get rid of me. I'm pretty persistent.

[notsogrimreaper]

I see. I’m glad you got to spend some time with him… is that the end to the story, or did more happen after?

[heavenscorpse]

The end is that he went up in his plane to help stop another alien like me from wiping out what was left of humans, and died on that mission. And I came here a little after that.

...I’m so sorry you lost him, only to come here. You should have had more time to grieve.

[This man sounded important to V/V, after all. Ryoji would have wanted more time if he could have gotten it.]

It's alright. Humans live such short lives, so I wasn't expecting a lot... But I was worried back then that I'd caused the end of my world.

[notsogrimreaper]

Ah… well, despite that being true, it’s still not always easy to accept… That said, I guess the two of us have a lot in common.
