Sleepover before the storm

Characters: [OU] Xion, Excalibur, and whoever comes
Setting: Floor 101
Format: Whatever floats your boat
Summary: It's the night before the infiltration. People are plotting, discussing, and Xion has brought a Dream Eater so those who want to try to get a good night's sleep have a marginally higher chance of doing so. So in short it's a Tower-flavored sleepover. Bring your own pillows.
Warnings: Nothing in the top level. Will try to edit if anything changes but if something comes up in one of your threads make sure to add a warning in the subject line

[Standard mingle post procedure. Make your top levels. Tag around. Have fun. Or not, this is Animus after all.

Notes will have been passed out and quiet discussion gone around by word of mouth, just saying that several people were spending the night in the hidden floor. Anybody who spoke to Xion would have been told that she's trying to figure out a way everybody can get a good night's sleep. You'll need to supply your own blankets and pillows but... hey, at least if you have trouble sleeping, you'll have company?

Note that any characters who sleep on the Hidden Floor, if they normally suffer from nightmares will likely have notably lessened or absent nightmares (up to your discretion) owing to the Dream Eater that Xion has brought with.]

[Mac an Chull's head is in his lap. His brother's head is on his shoulder. It's probably a good thing that Diarmuid doesn't have to go anywhere immediately after he wakes up. He would feel bad waking up either of those who apparently could find no more comfortable bed than him.

Still, after a few moments, he speaks softly trying to get his brother's attention.]

So...you're going down?

[Lancer opens one eye and yawns.]

...Yeah, I wouldn't wanna miss something like this. Are you coming with me?

[Diarmuid shakes his head.]

Not this time. Waver wants me to stay and I don't think it's a good idea to send all of our fighters down there when things have a habit of going so wrong. We can't leave the rest of the people in the Tower undefended should things go badly and with revivals taking longer now...

Oh.

[He's half relieved and half...disappointed at that answer.]

The rest of the Tower is gonna be in good hands then, with you around.

...But I would like to fight side by side with you again.

Don't look so disappointed.

[Diarmuid reaches over to lightly punch his brother in the shoulder.]

I suspect these last two months are going to give us a lot of chances to fight. It will still happen.

[He laughs quietly as Diarmuid punches him.]

It'll be exciting when it does. I think I'm gonna get bored otherwise. All the monsters are gone.

Shhh...

[Diarmuid presses a finger to his mouth.]

Don't jinx us. Them being gone makes things easier. We don't need them coming back and maybe being even more prevalent than they were before.

[To be honest, Diarmuid is actually kind of worried all the monsters are gone. Zo brought them here just like he brought the residents of the Tower to it. What does it mean that the monsters have disappeared like this?]

Oops.

[He gives his brother a sheepish grin.]

Still, I don't think my luck is bad enough to jinx all of us, is it?

At this point, I'm not taking chances on anything. Who knows what will happen.

[And speaking of not knowing what might happen...]

Be careful down there, okay? I know that is silly to ask considering how these things usually go, but I am going to ask anyway.

[He nods.]

I will.

[He runs a finger around the bird torc on his neck.]

I'm going to do my best to come back alive.

And I will do my best to hold things here so that you have something to come back to.

[Diarmuid pauses and closes his eyes for a moment, hand drifting to the wolf necklace around his neck. It's sad, really. There was a time when he knows both of them would be promising completely that they would be able to do what they set their minds to. Now...they know the Tower well enough to know better than that. The best is really all they can hope for.

No matter how infrequently it actually happens.]

Do you have any idea how many people are going down?

I'll trust you on that.

[Lancer's smile is also sad. After so long in the Tower, even he's started to doubt his promises. All he can do is his best, and sometimes, even that's not enough.]

Everyone I've talked to so far. We're gonna get some good fighters for this mission, at least.

Good. Just remember it's about stealth and not necessarily fighting this time. Riki can probably turn the whole Tower on us if he wants and no matter how hard we try, I don't know if we can beat that.

[Diarmuid shakes his head. It's kind of terrifying really, the thought of Riki turning the whole Tower into a weapon to use again them. They wouldn't have a chance.]

It's not like I can't be stealthy, you know. I was summoned to fight the Grail War and all.

[He tries hard not to think about the entire structure of the Tower going after them. It's a scary thought.]

Of course, I know you can be stealthy.

[Diarmuid laughs, winking at his brother.]

But I also know that you enjoy fighting more than sneaking around...

[He joins in laughing, remembering to keep it quiet for the sleepers.]

Don't worry. I'm sure there'll be plenty to fight down there, even if we do have to sneak around. If anything, I'd play rear guard.

A good place for you to be, to be honest. I know it makes me feel good to have you at my back.

[Diarmuid nods in approval.]

Do you have any thoughts on what Riki might be up to?

...I'm not too sure about that. I know he likes the Tower, but what would he be using our energy to do, if not to keep the Tower around?

I figure he's planning on keeping it around. He just might not be planning on keeping us around as well.

[Diarmuid frowns as he thinks on this.]

Or some people have mentioned other Towers. I wonder if he might be trying to get to one of them to start over. But that wouldn't be the same as it being this Tower--his Tower--would it?

No, it wouldn't. Would he even be able to live in one of those Towers?

[Diarmuid shakes his head.]

I don't know. This kind of theory crafting isn't something I'm good at. It's more up Waver's alley.

If we succeed and stop Riki, we wouldn't have to craft a theory, would we?

As long as we don't kill him. We need the things he knows.

[Diarmuid gives his brother a serious look.]

I don't know if it will be possible, but if this can be done without killing Riki, it should be.

Yeah, I don't quite feel like killing him either. Not yet, anyways. I'd leave him unless there's no other way.

If nothing else...can you imagine what would happen if Ruana took his powers like she took Dax and Jason's?

[Diarmuid has to hold back a shiver when he thinks of Ruana being in control of the whole Tower like Riki is.]

Because you know she would show up somehow...

[Even if she is suppose to be sleeping for a while longer.]
