just this once, everybody lives!

Characters: Everyone.
Setting: Anywhere.
Format: Party style.
Summary: Post-Ex Machina catch-all mingle.
Warnings: See individual threads.

[After a long, drawn out battle, the infiltration team returns to the residential portion of the Tower, weary, battered... but victorious. Some catching up is in order.]

What--

[The response had caught him off guard, and it showed clearly on his face. True, it wasn't the clearest of answers--but it also wasn't a definite 'no', either. For now, Waver could settle for that.]

So...it could just possibly be something manageable.
fionnuisce: (oh my friends forgive me)

[Waver answered with a firm nod of acknowledgment, one hand moving to his collarbone--over a pendant hidden under his shirt.]

Right... [He spoke mostly to himself, absentmindedly.] Even if we survive, it's nothing I would call 'victory' at all if that isn't the end result.

As would mine--in fact, he'd likely be annoyed if he heard me talking like that.

[Waver shrugged with one shoulder, the other still irritating him just a bit.]

But since we're the only ones within earshot right now, I won't tell if you won't.
fionnuisce: (and it was not your fault but mine)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2014-05-20 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Waver actually laughed quietly at that--he had more than his share of problems with that as well, but hey. It wasn't their issues under a microscope right now.]

Let me guess--yours is the type to try and insist everyone comes before them and works themselves half to death doing so.

[pot, kettle, etc etc.]

[Waver paused for a second, realizing just how unsettlingly familiar this sounded.]

At the risk of seeming as though I'm prying, could I ask her name? This is seeming...disturbingly similar to who I had in mind at the moment.

[As in 'if you hadn't specified pronouns I'd think there were two of him'.]

...Wait, you know Saber?

[TOO LATE]

Small multiverse, I guess.
fionnuisce: (where my friends will meet no more)

We do, yes--Diarmuid likely knows her better than I do. I only crossed paths with my world's version of Saber once or twice, a long time ago.

[~MULTIVERSE HIJINKS~]

Is she interested in going to your world rather than her own? That's actually somewhat reassuring to hear.

When it comes to the matter of any given Servant, I would certainly agree. Hopefully all those present will find a less miserable world to fuck off to and spare themselves the trouble.

[Bitter? No, not at all.]

Whole fucking system is a mess, if you ask me...

...I could explain if you'd like, though I warn you it's an unpleasant and complicated mess of a thing.

[Sighing, Waver crossed his arms with a small frown.]

I was part of the entire thing as a teenager--actually I might argue I'm still very much involved with the matter of the Holy Grail itself.

It's fine--the entire thing is hardly a secret around here. I think another version of myself detailed the whole matter on the network shortly before I arrived. Besides, as a teacher, far be it from me to leave anyone curious in the dark.

To make this as simple as possible: seven Masters like myself summon seven Servants--heroes from our world's past--to fight for a wish-granting artifact called the Holy Grail. Seven mythical heroes answer to arrogant mages with their heads firmly placed nowhere fit for polite conversation, and they all try to murder each other just to have some wish granted through a miracle.

And that's only the basic concept on paper. It gets far, far more idiotic and cruel, I can promise you that.

[Waver held up his right hand, showing Zelda the bright red sigil branded there.] For one thing, Servants can't exist without being connected to a Master, and these fucking awful things are proof of that contract. These Command Spells represent three absolute orders a master can give, and their Servant will be forced to follow them no matter what they might be.

That's correct. For a more harmless example, if I were to use one right now to call Diarmuid, he would be here in under a second without difficulty. Which, though I hate to admit it, is a very useful ability to have.

[Shrugging, Waver put his right hand in his pocket.]

That's the bit which aggravates me, in hindsight. It's...just sick. Master and Servant both get a wish out of the ordeal, in theory--but nothing is worth that kind of shit. And that's not even touching upon what the Grail actually is.
