PARTY TIME!

Characters: Marty and EVERYONE ELSE. Start your own threads, mingle, make CR!
Setting: Floor 38, the big lounge floor just under the dorms, BEST STORM VIEW
Format: Your choice
Summary: STORM WATCHING PARTY! So the power is out and there's tons of thunderstorms. But don't let that get you down, WATCH THE THUNDERSTORMS! Also pancakes and coffee.
Warnings: STORM WATCHING ! Lots of thunder

Marty had enough of the darkness in the tower and the creeping monsters, so when he looked at the mass of pancakes the automatic pancake maker had made, he loaded them up along with the coffee maker, coffee, the syrup, and toted them all the way up to Floor 38.

There was no way he was going to let those massive stacks of pancakes go to waste, and this was the closest floor to the dorms that actually had some place to hang out, so he set the pancakes up as a sort of continental breakfast, and sat watching the storm.

What he hadn't expected was the people to start trickling in.
ocariness: (Moe thinking; hmmm...)

[ Link really has no idea about any of that, nor what went on in the Labyrinth, fortunately, so they really don't... know any better.

There's the slightest of pauses. ]

I would not want to trouble you. ... Though I must ask if you know what any of this is? I recognize tree sap when I see it, but the rest is foreign to me.
fallen_stage: Kuja looking down and smiling sweetly, finger to his lips (The paragon of animals)

Link you forgot to turn your ugyuu off

[personal profile] fallen_stage 2012-05-31 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[My! How polite. They certainly have better manners than Ganondorf, if less knowledgeable.]

Of course. The "sap" is actually syrup, which is a processed and reduced form, so it's sweet and often used as a topping. The food itself are pancakes, a light, fluffy sort of bread or cake often eaten for breakfast.

[Kuja nudges the plate toward Link and places one mug next to it.]

The drink is coffee, a bitter sort of drink that causes wakefulness, but I put milk and sugar in it. I hope you don't mind.
ocariness: (Child uncertainty.)

Link's ugyuu button is always stuck to ON

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-05-31 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
[ ... Wait COFFEE?! Oh no! ]

O-oh, no thank you, my friend drank some of this koff-hee and was very... she was not able to make sentences properly.

[ Excuse them they need to go find a fork. Link returns with one shortly. ]

I am afraid there are quite a few things in this place that I do not understand... I have actually never had bread before coming here, either. We did not have it in my home.
fallen_stage: Kuja looking down in contemplation, hair half-obscuring his face (Man delights not me)

Wakes up covered in sparkles?

[personal profile] fallen_stage 2012-05-31 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Of course. Kuja should have thought of that, darn.]

No? That's rather odd. It is energizing, but not to that extent. Unless they were unused to it and drank a lot... Ah well.

[Change of topic go! That doesn't stop Kuja from drinking the coffee himself. Not super great, but it's not bad, either.]

Is that so? How interesting! What sort of staple did you eat at home, then?
ocariness: (Silently.)

It's like the Swag. Link also can't turn that off, and then she's got a Fish Wife...

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-05-31 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
[ Link is considering this, while actually cutting a pancake.

... It's hard to believe they hadn't handled a fork before coming here, but you adjust pretty quick from just a spoon and a knife, so. ]

Mostly berries and nuts, as well as small birds and fish. Whatever the Forest provided for us, truthfully. We had sap, as well, though not quite as sweet as this.

[ It was so simple back then. Link missed it. ]

Of course, you could eat Deku Nuts, but... they're far better for self-defense and hunting, so we would generally save them for that, and the seeds for a sling shot.
fallen_stage: Kuja looking to the side, hand upraised to brush his hair back (The beauty of the world)

Link gets all the luck UwU

[personal profile] fallen_stage 2012-05-31 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Huh, probably in a rural area then. Not farmers, but simpler than that... must have been a small village or something.]

Hm, I don't think I've ever heard of that sort of arrangement. Ahaha, then again, I'm very urban myself. How could you use decku nuts offensively? Were they poisonous to animals?
ocariness: (Jovial; pleasant.)

Unless you are Link who thinks it is the opposite of luck??

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-05-31 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, not at all. Deku Nuts are very good for long-range weapons. The seeds are hard, and while not as dangerous as arrows, they are good for stunning things and causing pain in the right spots. The Nuts, when thrown hard, will break open and blind enemies or stun them briefly. They are also a good means of a quick escape. Besides, they do not taste very good.

[ The smallest of laughs. But oh hey, before they eat... ]

Ah--I apologize, I am afraid I did not thank you for this. Your name is...?
fallen_stage: Kuja looking to the side, hand upraised to brush his hair back (The beauty of the world)

Guess so...

[personal profile] fallen_stage 2012-05-31 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, my name is Kuja.

[He's gonna take a bite himself. Hey, pretty good! Even if he wasn't craving sweets and flavor he'd think the same thing. At least, he assumes so.]

I've never known a nut quite like that. What does it grow into?
ocariness: (Gently.)

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-05-31 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ Link smiles, and tries it. Oh... not bad. Luckily, Link has good manners and is done before they speak. ]

My name is Link, Kuja. It is nice to make your acquaintance. As for the nuts, they... come from Deku Babas, though they can be very dangerous to harvest, as the adult plants will try to eat you. You can cut their stems for Deku Sticks, though, which are also useful for when you need kindling.
fallen_stage: Kuja looking to the side, hand upraised to brush his hair back (The beauty of the world)

[personal profile] fallen_stage 2012-05-31 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
[How resource. Small wonder those nuts had unusual properties, if they came from monsters.]

Are those monsters mobile? If they're truly like plants and rooted down, then it should be trifling to deal with.
ocariness: (Calmly.)

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-05-31 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
... The Bio ones are quite mobile if you cut them down. They are capable of walking on their stems.

[ Hahaha Monsters, man. ]

But they're surprisingly more dangerous than you would think. They're quite tall.
fallen_stage: Kuja smiling in satisfaction (How noble in reason)

I have Kuja at 5'10", not counting the feathers

[personal profile] fallen_stage 2012-05-31 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
That would be dangerous, especially if one wasn't expecting it.

[Monsters, totally. And yet Kuja can calmly sip at his coffee while discussing walking people-eating plants.]

How tall are they? Taller than you or I?
ocariness: (Childishly.)

Link is.... substantially shorter and I don't even have a decent height for her?

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-05-31 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
[ ... Let Link consider this. ]

About to... here, though some grow far taller. It really varies.

[ Link holds a hand up to their chest, to demonstrate 'here'. Link is around 5 foot nothing, so... ]
fallen_stage: worm's eye view of Kuja sitting on a silver dragon (How express and admirable)

Eh, we can handwave it!

[personal profile] fallen_stage 2012-05-31 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Huh. Smaller than some monsters, bigger than others. Nothing too troublesome, if it's the stationary ones.]

So frightening, but not too dangerous if one keeps one's head. I could be speaking from experience, however, since I am accustomed to monsters.
ocariness: (Taking care of the Ocarina.)

except NOW I have a height pfff 5'3''...

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-06-01 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
[ Oh!!! ]

So you have monsters in your home, as well, Kuja?
fallen_stage: Kuja smiling in satisfaction (How noble in reason)

Same as me .D.

[personal profile] fallen_stage 2012-06-01 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, quite a number of them. Some are more dangerous than others, of course, and in greater concentrations elsewhere. You see, monsters are born from the Mist that permeates the main continent on my planet, and where the Mist gathers thickly, more monsters spawn.

[Well and also there's monsters in his literal home but Link doesn't need to know that, or how unnatural the Mist truly is.]
ocariness: (Bandaged.)

Cool!

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-06-03 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Hm. Head tilt. ]

I see... most people I have met are not used to such things. It is... unfortunately commonplace in Hyrule for dangerous encounters to occur, however.
fallen_stage: Kuja thoughtful with a hand raised to his face (Which cunning times put on)

[personal profile] fallen_stage 2012-06-05 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[Kuja just shrugs.]

Well, people adapt when they need to, don't they? I do envy people without monsters sometimes, but I don't think I'd be as strong as I am now without them.

[But not because Kuja ever had to worry about fighting them. No need to worry Link with the details, was there?]
ocariness: (Pretty happy smiling.)

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-06-30 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
... This is true. Though, all the more reason to teach them how to protect themselves or protect them if we can.

[ Chivalry and a compassionate heart--Link is oftentimes a Knight, just without the shining armor. Or, you know, the man thing. Perhaps it's just how they were raised, but being taught to care for everything and everyone has made Link a very compassionate and empathetic person. ]
fallen_stage: Kuja sure loves smiling with a finger against his lips (To entrap the wisest)

[personal profile] fallen_stage 2012-07-01 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Being a woman would only reinforce the Knight image in Kuja's mind, so used to the powerful Alexandrian forces as he is. Although unlike the footsoldiers, Link didn't follow the traditional taunt of unarmored legs.]

Very true. Those who are weak either need help to become strong or should be under protection. I'm glad there are so many strong people here, those who can train others less fortunate.

[Kuja didn't really think that: the strong always devoured the weak, unless the weak used their numbers for a group advantage. Link however, with their "knight" personality, didn't need to know that.]
ocariness: (Quietly.)

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-07-12 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed. I just wish I was more better-suited to weapon making; then I could provide them with proper weapons as well as tell them how to use them. Unfortunately, I have never been good at large metal-working...

[ A problem, really. How can you teach people if you don't have equipment? Wooden swords for training are fine, but in practical application here... not good for protecting yourself. ]
fallen_stage: Kuja thoughtful with a hand raised to his face (Which cunning times put on)

[personal profile] fallen_stage 2012-07-12 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately that's outside of my experience as well. I suppose I could learn from books if I was desperate, or figure out the synthesizer on the lab floor.

[Even wood is better than nothing, but keen metal is best. If only Kuja paid more attention to synthesizing before, or he wouldn't have to learn it by tickering alone.]
ocariness: (Serious Hero Face.)

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-07-12 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
[ Link looks thoughtful. ]

Surely someone here may be able to teach us. If we can make weapons for ourselves and others, it would make maintaining defense in this monster-infested tower that much easier.
fallen_stage: Kuja looking up, hair spread out behind him (Who inward search'd)

[personal profile] fallen_stage 2012-07-12 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Could you not teach yourself?

[Since Link could wield a sword, they would be a valuable member on that count.]

Even if the weapons were poor, surely skill could make more of a difference.
ocariness: (Blankly.)

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-07-13 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[ They frown a bit. Hmm... ]

I could try, I suppose? It is not as though I don't have materials resistant to fire. It's merely that I've no idea how blades are actually... made. The ones I have were borrowed or...

[ Pulled from a Pedestal of Destiny, really. ]
