Midsummer Bash
Characters: Lancer, the people he invited to the party, and everyone else who wants to stumble in
Setting: Floor 25, July 5, afternoon
Format: Open
Summary: Lancer throws a party for midsummer, since the Tower obviously needs a breather.
Warnings: None so far.
[To be honest, Lancer wanted to have the party in the evening, sometime around twilight. That would have been the most romantic time for it. Unfortunately, when in the Tower, one had to account for things like monsters. As a result, he had to hold it during the afternoon. But it wasn't too bad of a compromise.]
[This was, of course, a more simple affair than Diarmuid's birthday. For food, he had hauled a couple of tables up here and lined the table with dinner food. The centerpiece was a cake which had a heart drawn on it in red frosting. In one corner of the meadow, he had used some boxes and tarp to make some sort of booth where people could hide from the sun (and steal kisses off of each other). In the center of the meadow, he had piled a large stack of wood, perfect for lighting a bonfire by the party's end. The structures had all been surrounded with wreaths made from the meadow's flowers.]
[As soon as he's done with the setup, Lancer will sit down next to the firewood pile, waiting for people to come.]

[Diarmuid grins at Waver, though considering how well they know each other, the other man will probably notice the grin is somewhat tired.]
Tickling comes to mind for one thing. As does a strip show considering it's a midsummer's celebration. Care to volunteer?

[Waver met that smile with a seemingly tired one of his own, dropping all pretense of being irritated or unapproachable.]
Are you alright?

[He laughs, though the sound is also slightly tired.]
I am....weird. I am exhausted, but at the same time I am excited. I've decided that it is finally time to stop messing around with the hows and such on the tower floor guide I've been working on and just get it out. Things are only going to become crazier now and I am probably not going to have much more time to work on it. It might not be perfect, but it is better to get it out and helping some than none at all.
As much as I have worried over getting it just right, finally deciding to get it out even in an imperfect form is somehow exhilarating to me.

Don't worry. I have a lot of people to help me. Saber of White for one, though I haven't seen her around much lately. I hope she's all right.
[He actually seems a little worried, suddenly, considering all of the recent disappearances from the tower.]
She's helped me gather information almost since the moment I started and she drafted up maps of most of the tower floors--those that lend themselves to be able to be mapped that is.
I need to make a post to the Network asking everyone who volunteered when we asked about it a few months ago to come to the library and help get the copies made. Then I need to make a copy ready to put on the Network and hope that it isn't tampered with by the administrators.
[He sighs and runs a hand through his hair.]
It's a lot to keep track of. I hope this month is quiet enough that I can. That is much more likely with Zo in charge than with anyone else.

[Waver shrugged, casual and for the moment unconcerned. Saber was fine last they spoke, and he had some level of faith she'd stay that way.]
You already know I'll give you all the help I can. Regardless of how many other people you have with you, you're not going to get rid of me so easily.
[He took Diarmuid's other hand with a genuine smile to counter his concern and worrying.]
You're doing a fantastic job. I'll help and support you in any way I can, so accept someone appreciating your effort for once.

[There is relief in Diarmuid's eyes when Waver mentions having seen Saber. Even if they have not spoken recently, he still holds her in the highest respects.
He actually manages to smile for real when Waver takes his hand. It's comforting and he appreciates the gesture.]
Thank you. Have no worries. I am fully planning on making use of you in all of this. Why else do you think I made sure you learned how to use that printing press?

[He smiles a little sheepishly.]
Make sure I don't run myself into the ground, okay?

You? Work yourself into the ground? Never. Why, when do you even work around here again? I thought all you did was drink tea and smoke.
no subject
You forgot 'and do silly tricks with mercury.' Why, I'm offended.
no subject
I was trying to spare your dignity a little. You know it doesn't exactly sound all that good to go around saying you 'do silly tricks' with mercury...

[Diarmuid gives Waver a suddenly worried look.]
That was the only reason, right?

One of the people who offered to help us--he said he had some magic that might help the copies we post to the floors last a little longer. Protection spells and such. Do you happen to have anything like that in amongst the spells you know? It would be nice if we had someone to help him. That is going to be a lot of things to cast spells on.

[Diarmuid sighs and shakes his head.]
It might be a wasted effort. The test copies I posted all disappeared so quickly, but I want to try at least once to put them up everywhere.

[He pauses a moment to think, before adding.]
Do you think you are comfortable enough with how the printing press works, that you might be able to teach some people if I need to step away for a bit?

If you can keep things moving while I am doing that, I would be very grateful.
no subject
Of course, anything you say.
[so how's that sarcastic taste of your own medicine anyway]

Wow... I think I better write this down. You're actually learning this teasing thing. And here I was just telling my brother I thought your face might crack in half if you ever truly smiled...
