Characters: Anyone and everyone
Setting: Cafeteria, Noon, Nov 7th
Format: Anything
Summary: A party/discussion mingle after calling a meeting of the residents.
Warnings: tba

The anonymous post on the network was an invitation to gather, discuss and share information. Maybe they would get incredibly lucky and get to the bottom of things, such as who was behind the bombings or the strange things that went on during Quarantine.

Someone has been at work down here in the dining hall, moving the tables around to create a space in the middle in case people felt like dancing. Most of the chairs are around the outside and facing the middle, for everyone to see each other better. There was another space and some chairs for musicians, and a couple of the larger tables were set up with a large buffet of normal cafeteria food (because Zo wasn't likely to poison them) and resident prepared dishes, both clearly marked.

Of course, there was always the oatmeal.

[When Riku speaks, it's at a low volume, so not to draw too much attention to himself. However, in light of the infiltration a while back, there's something he needs to share.]

You guys all remember what happened during August? Some people started waking up in the admin levels, and a friend of mine got stuck doing processing.

[Riku's expresion darkens, and he rolls his hands into fists.]

Well, turns out there's a way to remove the collars-- these little styluses. Don't know how it'd work on living bodies, but someone might have snagged a couple.

[Or a couple of someones. Of course, he won't disclose their location for obvious reasons.]

[ Doc was happy just listening around, but this one bit of information caught his attention. ]

Great Scott, that's exactly what we need!

[ It had been one of his main worries-- How'd they manage to actually use the researches' results. After all, they had no mean to alter the collar fluid within their bodies. But it sounded as though this was a viable way to go about it. ]

When we'll have completed the researches, we will need something like that to actually put the results into practice otherwise none of what we are doing will matter.

Well, if it helps, I know the combo to get rid of the collars. A friend taught it to me before he left.

[A frown crosses Riku's face for a split second before he shakes his head.]

We'll just have to make sure it's safe before we start ripping the things off of everyone.

[ He nodded, well that was good. If he knew how to do it they could count on him whenever the researches would be completed. ]

I hate to say this, but it sounds like the most efficient way would be to test it on one of the worker unit.

[ They lacked a soul or heart and weren't really alive after all-- Though this would be an extreme measure as far as he was concerned. ]

The question is, how do we get our hands on one without stirring up trouble? I'm all for it, but it's not like we can grab one by the wrist and drag it off into some secluded corner.

[Or, well, maybe it's possible, but safe? Debatable.]

If you're the only one who knows, you should teach it to others.

[If Riku thought he wasn't going to get listened in on, well, too bad. This is the first discussion that's really caught Asch's attention.]

For all you know, you might be the next one to disappear, and then the knowledge would be lost.

[personal profile] warriorscribe 2013-11-11 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Not to mention, knowledge is safest in as many minds as possible now. They lack the energy to erase all of our memories. The network is unsafe, but careful word-of-mouth and mailboxes are.
keybearer: (deep within)

[personal profile] keybearer 2013-11-11 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
There's at least one other guy who knows it. The combo just didn't get spread out much because John wanted to keep it between people he trusted.

[Still, mailboxes... there's an idea.]

Honestly, I'm surprised the mailboxes are as safe as they are. You'd think they'd be one of the first places the admins would monitor.
warriorscribe: (It'll be fine...won't it?)

[personal profile] warriorscribe 2013-11-11 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Sensitive information has been given through them before, so apparently not...perhaps they think it's too slow for us to plan something important?
bloodyashes: ([F] This is my Jade face)

[personal profile] bloodyashes 2013-11-12 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
If that's the case, then it's pretty stupid of them.

[Reading plans, and even just outright preventing things from getting to the people they were intended for - there's a lot the admins could do to mess with the mailboxes.

Asch turns back to Riku.]

You can teach the combination without actually having the stylus, correct?
keybearer: (tense)

[personal profile] keybearer 2013-11-15 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think so. It'd probably be easier to just show it, but seeing how we don't know what'd happen...

[He shrugs, resting one hand on a nearby table.]

It'd probably be easier to just jot it down. Maybe I could whip up some copies for the science teams, since they'll probably be the go-to guys for this.
bloodyashes: ([F] This is my Jade face)

tardy party

[personal profile] bloodyashes 2013-11-19 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Seeing as they couldn't hold the fluid with anything made of film, I doubt it would have any effect.

[Even if it did work without the stylus in question in the first place.]

If you do, I'd like a copy.

[Something to commit to memory and then burn.]

A stylus? [Romeo frowned not knowing what that was, but then smiled and nodded.] How do they get them off? We got to be careful because if you're dead it doesn't matter that there will be holes in your neck but it does if we are alive!
keybearer: (uncertain)

[personal profile] keybearer 2013-11-11 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
There's this control panel that pops up. From there, you've gotta input a code... It'd be easier to show you, but I don't want to put those styluses at risk.

[Right now, they're hidden. It's probably better to keep it that way for the time being.]
myblueskies: (so surprised)

[personal profile] myblueskies 2013-11-12 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Like a computer? Inside the collar? [He blinked] And does that close all the holes?
keybearer: (listen)

[personal profile] keybearer 2013-11-15 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I haven't seen it myself, but from what I heard, the collar just pops off. No holes, just a plain old neck.

[Albeit a neck made out of wireframe, but a neck all the same.]
myblueskies: (so surprised)

[personal profile] myblueskies 2013-11-15 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh... because when the bad pe... the administrators took someone's collar off on the network once there were lots of holes and they died. This must close all the holes! [That was good news!]
keybearer: (cringe)

[personal profile] keybearer 2013-11-21 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Riku cringes at his description, instinctively bringing a hand to his neck.]

I wonder if it was all for show, to make us think that we couldn't remove them.
myblueskies: (big brother)

[personal profile] myblueskies 2013-12-01 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe... Maybe it was to make us scared and not want to try. [He frowned and nodded] We need to find the code then, right?
keybearer: (amused)

[personal profile] keybearer 2013-12-02 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, that wouldn't surprise me one bit.

[He blurts out a dry laugh. Oh, those admins...]

But I've got the code all taken care of.

[He points at his head.]

It's just a matter of passing it around in a way that won't attract unwanted attention.
myblueskies: (brave smiles)

[personal profile] myblueskies 2013-12-02 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
You know it already? [His eyes widen] Well... you could whisper it to people! And get them to pass it on.

[Overhearing this, Ion decides to speak up as well, though his voice is naturally fairly quiet.]

Something similar happened to me.

[He wasn't so sure how useful this information might prove to be, but it felt relevant, and Ion didn't want to regret holding his tongue if it turned out what he had to share could end up being at least somewhat helpful.]

When I woke up during that time, I don't believe I was doing anything related to processing, but I was refilling the collar fluid on retrieval units. [Ion nods.] Like you said, there was a stylus involved. It may not be as important as knowing how to remove the collars, completely...but I do remember how I was made to use the stylus to access a sort of control panel on the back of the collars.
keybearer: (curious)

[personal profile] keybearer 2013-11-11 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Right, John told me about that-- the panel, that is.

[So the styluses could be used for refilling fluids, too... Actually, now that he thinks about it, he wound up working with retrieval units.]

I wound up doing some work with retrieval units too. Not with collars, but I do remember there being this empty pod. One of the units hadn't checked in for months... Makes me wonder just how important the fluid is for them in the first place.
gradosfinest: (o.o...)

[personal profile] gradosfinest 2013-11-13 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[... hmn. Her information doesn't directly pertain to the collars, but this seems like as good a time as any to bring up what she does know. Especially as it may come in handy somewhere down the line.]

I woke up on the admin levels as well for a short time, I didn't really recognize where I was... but I remember facing a bunch of those shadow children. I don't know what it was or how it worked, but I had some kind of device that seemed able to injure them, with some kind of ray of light.

... given how much trouble they've been giving us, I hope there's something we can do with that information.
keybearer: (uncertain)

[personal profile] keybearer 2013-11-15 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
...Huh, light piercing shadows. I guess that fits.

[After all, it's very much the same with most Heartless. A grim smile spreads across Riku's face at the thought, and he exhales softly.]

But I wonder how long they've had that kind of technology. Have those shadow children been here longer than we thought?
