[Darres was pleased with this development. It meant the kid was calming down and coming to his senses. It hurt him a little to know that Quark was here without anyone familiar from his home. Much like Ishtar for all those years.]

No, you can, if you want. [He gives her another light squeeze.] I meant--no one likes to see someone they care about crying, but if you feel like crying, then it's all right.

Am I? [He manages a laugh, at her teasing.] If you like talking about yourself, there's nothing wrong with that. I'd always like to hear more about you. Or about anything you wanted to talk about. [He'd like to be able to talk about nice, normal, domestic things, but he supposes neither of them has things like that to talk about.]

Photography might be nice too, if you'd rather not talk. We could go exploring together and look for things to photograph. There are a lot of things to take pictures of here, or there will be, once things are back to normal. It seems all those pictures are--nothing, but I like them anyway. It doesn't matter if they're not real, when we can see them and experience them.

I have a picture of you when you were a little girl. From when we used to spend time together.

I could.. if I had it with me. [ Usually she always does, because of her powers, but it's different now. She's already tried summoning it before but she does it again now, stretching her "arms" out.. but nothing appears in them. ]

Oh, I think I get it. So she is kind of a human bird. But how does she make people go blind? I guess being a youkai or whatever gives her some sort of weird power.

Oh, right. I always forget other worlds are different.

In my world, people can turn into weapons. My Papa's a scythe and I think they were kinda hoping I'd be a scythe too.

I take it you didn't inherit that particular trait?

I... kinda did. I only found out about it a couple of months ago, so I'm not really good at transforming.

How does something like that work? There's nothing like that in my world.

Well, it's pretty simple. Weapons have a human form and a weapon form, and they switch between the two.

[Ellen tilts her head slightly as she works through the question. She spares a glance around the hallway, then looks down at her own wire-frame hands. She nods.]

[She seems to be taking the question seriously, at least.]

With Sakura too..? [ Whatever happened between her sister and her has left her shaken up; still, she was her younger sister who she missed. ] She's beautiful with dark hair, so it bothers me to see her without it.

I do. It was one of the things in my trunk when I arrived. I don't know why they gave it to me, but they did. I always carry it with me here. Yes, Sakura's in it, too. It's a picture of you, Sakura, your mother, and me, taken one day while we were playing in the park. It's the same as a real picture I had, at home.

[It was one of his most treasured possessions, so he's lucky he has it here, even if it's only a copy.]

I miss those times, when we all had fun together. I used to look forward to that, so much. But we can have fun together again, so maybe we're lucky, in a way.

[He says this hopefully. To him, those earlier times were only a year or so ago, but it seems like so much longer has passed since then, considering everything that's happened in between.]

She does look very pretty with dark hair, but she looks pretty now, too. [He wishes her hair hadn't changed too, along with everything that implies, but she's still very beautiful.]
