A dead man's wish

Summary: While Naoya gets the reveal started on the network, Enoch takes care of physical copies.

*There's something different about the tower today. Not in a big way, not like the power or glamours are out. For one thing, everyone with a mailbox will get this note, unsigned:

Souls in our world are defined as the self. Even those without anything that can be considered a soul in their own worlds would manifest one here. Souls are extremely resilient - they can be torn out of their body and survive provided they are removed in the right manner. But they shouldn't be of course - the side effects might be disastrous in ways we can't quite understand. It's happened here before. Souls can be torn out of this world the same as in any other. Here though they can split - that's extremely important. They can split and merge if you have the right skillset. Never lose your soul in the Tower of Animus. None of yours are yet lost - but never lose it! They won't come back whole if you let her swallow them up. The power must have gone by now - she'll want to restore the tower. Everyone who ended up trapped on their own worlds is now in grave danger! She can't take souls as Zo can, but she can siphon them and she can squeeze all the energy out of them.

As soon as this message is decoded put it in as many places as possible! Put it on the network make copies and plaster them on the walls. Do everything you can so that as many people read this message as possible. There isn't enough energy to erase everyone's memories!

Remember - souls born here can be split and reabsorbed here. A soul born elsewhere can be split there, but there's no way to put it back together unless you can put it back where it's supposed to be.

Not everything is as fake as it seems. Your souls are here and you have all been drugged to keep certain aspects of yourselves contained but every part of you is here. You can use that against them if you can figure out how to unchain yourselves. I'm afraid you'll have Jason as your first opponent as he's the one with the keys you need. Be careful! There is information everywhere though much of it has been nearly permanently sealed. I can make it possible for you to access it, although you will all have to unlock it.

If that wasn't strange enough, you've probably seen it already. The same message is posted throughout the tower - on bathroom stalls, on walls, on tables. There are easily over a hundred pieces of paper.

And hey... Isn't that the same note "the Observer" put up on the network yesterday evening?*

"I will! I'll practice a lot! I know that the monsters won't be able to kill me eventually!"

..But that didn't mean she was going to try and hunt them down or chase after bad people when she saw them. She didn't want to die, no matter how good she got at fighting.

"Good! I can help you too! I can fight with my knife."

And he was getting good as well, even if the few people he ever found to teach him properly were gone now.

"Oh! How do you use a knife? They're for cooking, but Yotsuba doesn't know how to fight with them!"

Yes, tell the five-year-old how to fight with a cooking tool.

"I can show you if you want!" Romeo told her seriously, "Because a sling is good but you can't get a monster if it is right there, but with a knife you can stab it before it eats you."

"Really?! I want you to show me! I have to defend myself, or bad people will kill me!"

"Okay! I can show you!" He jumped up and reached down to pull Yotsuba to her feet.

It seemed, for the moment, that both of their attentions would be pulled away from writing, because Yotsuba would let Romeo pull her up, and she would grab his hand, smiling.

"Show me then!" Not the most patient child in the history of the world.

Romeo took the knife out of his pocket, it was just a sharpened blade with a masking tape handle but it did the job. "Okay so it's a lot like normal fighting except you got the knife too and that's what you hit the monsters with." He looked around and grabbed one of the pens. "That can be your knife when we practice okay"

He moved into a basic defensive stance and motioned for her to copy.

Yotsuba, for better or worse, wasn't an expert on knives, so she couldn't really say how terrible or not the knife was. She hadn't been trained in normal fighting-just how to use a sling-but she wasn't going to mention that, thinking that she had the basics of fighting pretty much covered.

"Okay! Yotsuba can use it! But you don't hit people! You stab them!" Yotsuba happily chirped as she took the pretend knife and copied Romeo's defensive stance as best she could.

Romeo nodded, "You do. Or slice them." He demonstrated a upward slash. "Like that, or." He went back into his stance and showed her a stab. "Like that."

"Oh! Like this?!"

Quickly, Yotsuba tried to copy Romeo's moves, but put a bit too much gusto into her thrusts, so her upward slash was too high, even though her stab was fine.

"Almost! You did good though!" He grinned at her and showed her the slash again. "Like this see, a bit lower!"

[sunflowerfairy]

Yotsuba usually didn't let a small mistake trip her up or keep her from smiling, so she just kept on beaming as usual and repeated the slash again, getting it right this time.

"Okay! I got it!"

"You did!" Romeo grinned at her. "You can use the knife to block as well, so you can stop the monsters weapons, or their claws."

[sunflowerfairy]

"That should be good then! Monster claws are really sharp and hurt!"

After all, she had seen what they had done to Enoch, and she herself would be eaten by one in the future.

"Can you stop their teeth too?!"

[myblueskies]

"Yep! Though it is just easier to try and slice their face and then run away really fast!" He smiled again. "Can you run fast Yotsuba?"

[sunflowerfairy]

"I can! But if a monster is really tall, Yotsuba might not be able to slice their face!"

Not that she wouldn't try stabbing them in any other part of their body.

[myblueskies]

"Well then you just got to stab them where you can, or stomp on their feet first." Romeo told her seriously.

[sunflowerfairy]

"I will! Yotsuba will stomp on them hard like this!"

And with that, Yotsuba would jump forward down onto the ground as hard as she could.

[myblueskies]

"That's great!" Romeo grinned at her. "You got to practice though, and when your good at fighting people, not properly just for practicing! Then fight little monsters, then bigger ones and soon you will be able to fight all the monsters!"

[sunflowerfairy]

"I'm not going to fight anyone! I don't want to be a bad person! But Yotsuba will practice a lot and fight a lot of monsters!"

When she had to. For now, she would still try and avoid them when she could since dying was painful and she didn't want to risk it. Everyone would be sad and she wouldn't be able to see Daddy again if she wasn't brought back!

"I didn't mean fight them for real. I meant practice with them! Because then you both get stronger and you help them as well as yourself!"

"Oh..okay! Yotsuba can practice with Diarmuid and Enoch and Lucifel and Cecil and you!"

When she actually got a dagger, that was.

"That's a great idea!" He grinned, "But you got to have a knife first!"

"Right! How can I make one? Enoch helped Yotsuba make the sling, but I don't know how to make a knife.."
