*Enoch held Yotsuba close, rocking subtly to try to soothe her as well as he could. Dax had wanted to show them this. Dax had wanted them to see the truth. He knew it was hurting people. And he couldn't say that didn't hurt. But Dax knew better than any resident what was there - Dax had given them all the tools to find their own way. To do for them what he could not.

It hurt. The way watching Sariel's children and lovers had hurt. The way watching the Watchers' martyrs die at his hands hurt. The way the evident peacefulness of Armaros hurt.

But he was never one to even address his doubt beyond the pain. So he did not.*

I never said I didn't know where they are. They're here, but you can only see where they are at night, when it's dangerous and all the monsters are out. We adults will save everyone, the people in these bodies and the other souls. I promise, I will do everything in my power to save your parents, and everyone else.

[Yotsuba was used to being held. For some reason, that happened a lot in the Tower, but she wasn't going to complain about it. However, being rocked was a new experience, and not even Daddy had done that since..Yotsuba tended to not get too upset about anything, since huge catastrophes were either taken care of quickly or didn't happen at all.

And while Yotsuba usually loved new experiences in general, the rocking did help, along with squeezing Juralumin as hard as she could. This, combined with Enoch's promise, got her to smile a little.]

Really?! You won't forget?!

[..It always was easy for her to bounce back.]

Of course I won't. It takes a very, very long time to make me forget something so important.

[..And with that, Yotsuba was smiling again.]

Okay then! I'll do my best to su..sur..live until then! And Juralumin will get mad if you break it, okay?

[At the question, Yotsuba held up her 'teddy bear' a bit and waved it around, like it was annoyed at something.]

*Enoch chuckled warmly.* I promise I won't break it.
sunflowerfairy: (Huh..?)

Good! We'll all do our best then! Can Yotsuba help when I grow up?

*It...takes a little while to answer her. Of all the questions! It's a good thing facial definition isn't clear here.*

I'm sure we won't take that long, Yotsuba.

[She had just been curious..she didn't know how long it would take, and since she couldn't be a magical girl, she thought it best to ask about this, since only grown-ups could help.]

Oh..okay then. How long will it take?
warriorscribe: (It'll be fine...won't it?)

[personal profile] warriorscribe 2013-06-11 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
There's no telling, but it certainly won't take as long as your entire childhood.

[Not that Yotsuba really had a good guess as to how long she would remain a child. As far as she knew, she was going to be a child for a long time.

Not that she really minded, to be honest. Before she could get out her next sentence though, she yawned, loosening her grip on Juralumin.]

Okay then! Thank you!
