[He would smile if he could and he's glad that he could calm her. It was terrible for a child to have to endure this, for anyone to endure this really. He had to wonder, sometimes, if there would ever be any kind of peace for the people here.]

I'm glad that you think so. My mother used to sing it to me when I was an elfling.

An elfling? [[She's a little confused by that. What's an elfling?]]

I bet your mom had a really pretty voice.

Elflings are what we call young elves that have not yet reached maturity. [He laughs softly.]

Oh yes, she did. Or so I thought. Listening to her sing was my favorite thing to do after lessons and training each day.

...so...you're an elf? Like one of those little people with pointed ears that like to hide in bushes and stuff? [[Cuz you sure don't look very little, mister!]]

...my brother sometimes sang to me to help me sleep at night, when I was having nightmares.

I've never heard of elves like that but I am an elf, yes. I am one of the Silvan elves that make their home in the forest.

[His smile, while not showing, is clear in his voice:] It's a very good way to sleep, having a song in your head. What kind of songs did he sing?

I don't know what Silvan elves are...but they're very nice, if they're like you! And big brother sang a lot of different ones! My favorite one is Mori no Fukuro!

[[Without a request, she takes a breath and sings the short little song. It's only a few short sentences, but she makes sure every Japanese syllable has as much melody in it as she can.]]

Many of them are but we tend to be very distrustful of outsiders. That's not concern here.

[Oh, he likes the sound of that and tries to commit it to memory.]

It's very pretty. I can see why it's your favorite.

It's about an owl. [[She beams.]]

He sings me songs about the ocean and about rain and about reaching the stars! [[Her smile falls a little and she leans against Legolas again.]]

Ah, the sea and stars are quite close to my heart. And you've already shown your world has beautiful songs. Perhaps someday you might sing them to me?

[He holds her close and tries to make sure she feels safe.]

I understand. There are several people that I wish were here but, in the same moment, I would not wish this fate upon them.

[[She nods...she wouldn't want her brother stuck here either...but at the same time...]]

I don't know what to do without him though...

[[With a deep breath, she sighs, then looks up at Legolas. She just needs to stop worrying...there are lots of other nice people here, right? He's really nice! So...]]

[He really does. And he can't blame her for that. Who could? Certainly nobody sensible.]
