Summary: The giant party is finally here! Mingle, Blind date and strange things ahoy!
Warnings: WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN.

Floor Thirty-Eight. Normally just a simple lounge, it was now Party Central.

It was clear Eikichi had put all of his heart into it. Say what you wanted about him, but he was a good manager and organizer. The place didn't look the same, with the flower bouquets strewing in odd corners, the bright pieces of tissues hung around like garlands. They had no balloons so they made with. A few banners hung into the air, the words crudely painted with Maya's name and wishing her a happy birthday. There was also a few others with the names of the birthdays Eikichi had managed to get.

At the entrance, there was a a few large baskets filled with corsages that Jun had prepared - acacias white (friendship and chaste love), yellow (secret love) and pink (friendship), white violets (Purity; Candor; Modesty; Innocence; Let's take a chance on happiness) and pink roses (Perfect happiness, please believe me; Friendship) expertly woven pieces of stems and grass meant it required no other materials than the flower themselves.

Of course, the meanings were not written. You just had a few to chose from. Then you could offer one to your date to wear on their hand...if you wished.

As Eikichi had said, no pressure.

...Except for coming, of course.

Those that were part of the blind dates had each been given a small piece of paper with a symbol.As they entered they could see a small sign instructing to try and find the other person with the same symbol. This would be their 'date' of the night.

On the farthest left to the entrance, they had dragged in a gigantic music system, with an area for a DJ to run (Tatsuya had helped with the wiring). Some large pieces of metals had been lined up to cover the floor, making a fake stage and on top of that, he had placed various instruments - along with those of his band, of course. The stage would be open for them to play later, regardless.

The main area reserved for food was a few tables that had been dragged in here, covered with whatever tissues they had found and filled with all the food they could take - some of it was typical stuff found in the cafeteria this week (but no gross stuff - Eikichi didn't want living maggots in his cheese today), the rest had been made by those nice enough to help with the cooking. There wasn't that much typical 'party food' as creating your own sweets and chips does take a while, but the jerky meats, the hot soups and the vegetables more than made up for it. The drinks were placed right besides it and who knew how many trips they had needed to set it all up.

There were also cakes on the next table, enough to feed at least everyone in the part a generous slice. Considering the ingredients and the people involved they ranged from the very simple to baked pies using the available fruits, and a single cake which appeared to have more work than the others. They did with what they had, and it was fantastic they had so much at all.

All the chairs and bags found in that room normally were tossed in a corner facing the central area so that people could sit down if they felt like it, but the central area was reserved to talk, mingle and dance once everything REALLY got underway.

It would soon too, once the crowds started to get bigger and bigger.

[ Gamzee had signed Karkat up for this. he hadn't planned on arriving either. Karkat's idea had been to ignore the entire thing and just sit in his room and read. or go watch some movie if he could stomach it.

his moirail obviously had other plans. Gamzee had swooped in like some friggin ninja and snatched Karkat up. that's why he's here now and looking none too pleased about it. there's that paper in his hand, but he's not really actively seeking the other out.

but his eyes are scanning for its match. just in case... ]

[What he'll see is a brown spiky head of hair emerging from the crowd. It's attached to (what seems to be) a short fourteen-year-old boy wearing a black coat with too-blue eyes. His(?) expression is a little meek and a little more nervous, but also curious, and maybe a touch excited. Right now, his(?) focus is on the piece of paper. The symbol on it... is a crown. It's a little ironic, Xion thinks. It's just like Sora's necklace...

Xion looks up in time to catch Karkat's eyes, and the surprise brings pink to her cheeks. Then, after a moment's hesitation, she approaches.]

Um... Have you seen anyone with this symbol on their paper? [Xion offers forward the one she's holding to show him.]

[ Karkat isn't really tall himself. he's at about 5ft currently and that ear twitches when he's approached. gray irises take in the other human male. or what he presumes to be a male. shame that Karkat is so irritable that he just grunts at first in response. ]

Why do you want to know? Did you sign yourself up for this ridiculous shitfest?

[Xion may wilt a little at the grunt, but it's clear she doesn't know what "shitfest" means because she perks up at the question and nods, hair bouncing.]

Uh-huh! It can't hurt to make new friends, right?

Not really. I mean... Sort of. Someone explained it to me! But that was after I signed up. The guy who set this up said that you can make friends through this, so that's why I thought it'd be a good idea!

[a pause. then, a realization. Xion gets a guilty look on her face.]

No, actually. It's probably for the best. My moirail signed me up thinking that I needed some flushdate to -

[ to take his mind off of things and be less crabby. because Karkat should have someone to be flushed for, in Gamzee's eyes. but this guy doesn't need to know that.

so he just flashes his matching card. ]

[Xion stares blankly at first, because she isn't quite sure what he's talking about. Moirail? Flushdate? -- Oh! He has the same card! Xion brightens again.]

I'm glad you don't mind! I didn't want to disappoint you or anything --

Oh, yeah! [Xion turns then, digging in her pack, and then when she turns to face Karkat again, she's holding out... some slightly smooshed yellow carnations.

Yes, really. She brought you flowers, Karkat.]

Here! These are for you!

sooooo much staring and brow twitching. how could someone be so friggin oblivious? ]

You don't... You don't bring fucking flowers to make friends! They're a human tradition, yes, but meant for real dates, not fakey dates.

But I read that these flowers mean "friendship"! So I thought it'd be nice to bring them to my... "blind fucking date" person! [guess who doesn't know how to use swear words right] I picked them myself!

Did you know flowers have a language? Isn't that neat?

That only works for someone who knows the language of flowers. Hence it is not really applicable in this situation, but I'll let it slide. It's not like you knew you'd end up with a Troll anyway...

[ not saying a blessed word about that language. Karkat doesn't always use it properly either. ]

She stands there awkwardly for a moment, still holding out the flowers.] So. Um. D'you want 'em...?

But from what I've heard, people just decorate with them!
