We're Gonna Party Rock Till The Day Comes Up!

Summary: The giant party is finally here! Mingle, Blind date and strange things ahoy!
Warnings: WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN.

Floor Thirty-Eight. Normally just a simple lounge, it was now Party Central.

It was clear Eikichi had put all of his heart into it. Say what you wanted about him, but he was a good manager and organizer. The place didn't look the same, with the flower bouquets strewing in odd corners, the bright pieces of tissues hung around like garlands. They had no balloons so they made with. A few banners hung into the air, the words crudely painted with Maya's name and wishing her a happy birthday. There was also a few others with the names of the birthdays Eikichi had managed to get.

At the entrance, there was a a few large baskets filled with corsages that Jun had prepared - acacias white (friendship and chaste love), yellow (secret love) and pink (friendship), white violets (Purity; Candor; Modesty; Innocence; Let's take a chance on happiness) and pink roses (Perfect happiness, please believe me; Friendship) expertly woven pieces of stems and grass meant it required no other materials than the flower themselves.

Of course, the meanings were not written. You just had a few to chose from. Then you could offer one to your date to wear on their hand...if you wished.

As Eikichi had said, no pressure.

...Except for coming, of course.

Those that were part of the blind dates had each been given a small piece of paper with a symbol.As they entered they could see a small sign instructing to try and find the other person with the same symbol. This would be their 'date' of the night.

On the farthest left to the entrance, they had dragged in a gigantic music system, with an area for a DJ to run (Tatsuya had helped with the wiring). Some large pieces of metals had been lined up to cover the floor, making a fake stage and on top of that, he had placed various instruments - along with those of his band, of course. The stage would be open for them to play later, regardless.

The main area reserved for food was a few tables that had been dragged in here, covered with whatever tissues they had found and filled with all the food they could take - some of it was typical stuff found in the cafeteria this week (but no gross stuff - Eikichi didn't want living maggots in his cheese today), the rest had been made by those nice enough to help with the cooking. There wasn't that much typical 'party food' as creating your own sweets and chips does take a while, but the jerky meats, the hot soups and the vegetables more than made up for it. The drinks were placed right besides it and who knew how many trips they had needed to set it all up.

There were also cakes on the next table, enough to feed at least everyone in the part a generous slice. Considering the ingredients and the people involved they ranged from the very simple to baked pies using the available fruits, and a single cake which appeared to have more work than the others. They did with what they had, and it was fantastic they had so much at all.

All the chairs and bags found in that room normally were tossed in a corner facing the central area so that people could sit down if they felt like it, but the central area was reserved to talk, mingle and dance once everything REALLY got underway.

It would soon too, once the crowds started to get bigger and bigger.

[Blind. Date.

Who the hell signed him up for this?! If he ever finds that damn culprit, Soma is going to punch them. And there's really only a few people in this tower that he's talked with so far. But who would be so bold enough to do this?

But enough glowering. It's a party! People are suppose to have fun, right? Too bad he's a bit of a party pooper. He's glowering at the piece of paper with his special symbol on it. And based on the instructions, he'll have to hunt the other half down.

This sounds splendid....]

[Luke, conversely, signed himself up, because he thought it'd be fun. He's looking around, trying to catch a glimpse of someone with the matching symbol, when he sees Soma glaring at his piece of paper.

Which has the right symbol on it.

He takes a moment to ponder how best to approach this before he heads over.]

Hey, you know, you're under no obligation to do the blind date thing. You can just put it away and go straight for the food table. I was considering that, actually. It's nearly guaranteed to be free of odd food items.

[He shrugs, putting on a rueful expression.]

Or did someone drag you here?

[Clearly, Luke has been partnered up with the life of the party. Cough.

Soma looks up from the paper to acknowledge the new presence. The frown is permanently etched onto his face, but his displeasure wasn't really aimed towards Luke. Yet. Just wait until he realizes he's Soma's partner.]

Ignoring it was what I planned on doing. But my idiot lea— [He pauses for a moment, then decided to change his phrasing a little.] I arrived to this place with a friend of mine. We were trying to gather some information but the network has been done since we arrived. [And then came the event where the tower was pretty much dead from lack of power.]

I was told to come here to gather some information about this place. But the blind date part totally had me surprised.

[He'd like to say he was dragged here but that wasn't necessarily true. He was just... well convinced.]

"Ah, yeah," says Luke, nodding sympathetically. "I came in when the power was out too. It wasn't the best of introductions to the place, really. I had to focus on the monsters and finding food instead of exploring."

[assaulter]

"It's a harsh place." Soma unconsciously reaches towards his neck and briefly touches the collar that's been placed on him. "But surviving first beats out learning more about the tower."

He then directs his gaze over towards the food table and stares at it for a long while. He recalled Luke mentioning something about free food but he's a little wary about taking it. "Have you actually tried the food that they served in the cafeteria yet?" There were some dangerously awful things there... and he ended up finding out the hard way.

"I've tried nearly everything in the cafeteria," says Luke. "All except for the things which are obviously poisoned." Obvious to him, maybe.

"Look, I'd best come clean with you," he says after a moment's pause, and removes the symbol from his pocket. "Like I said, there's no obligation, but I don't have a problem with it. I suppose if you do, we can just continue talking as normal, or I can change if I'm not your thing." He means that. With an odd sort of flicker, Luke is suddenly a female version of himself. Humans, man. Hung up on weird things.

That symbol.... It's definitely the same one on the paper he was glaring at earlier. There's no need for him to state the obvious but, "You're the person I'm paired up with—"

And a bit of a double-take when the man is suddenly... a woman? There's a particularly long silence before Soma finally manages to speak again.

"What are you, exactly?"

"I'm lots of things," says Luke, running a hand somewhat through his now waist-length hair. He doesn't do things halfway, and he's a huge show-off. His female party clothing looks a bit medieval Viking and a bit seventies, resulting in an earth tone-y flowing dress with brooches at each shoulder. "What would you prefer I be? It's a party, and I suppose I'm feeling pretty generous." He shrugs. "I don't do small prey animals for the first meeting, though, fair warning."

[assaulter]

"How kind of you." His default tone tends to be sarcastic. But really, he's a bit amazed and possibly wary of Luke after seeing that transformation.

A lot of things but a 'normal human' isn't exactly one of them. Then again, Soma isn't quite normal either...

"No, it's fine. Whatever form you choose is fine, just as long as we are still able to communicate..." And that answer would pretty much confirm it. While he doesn't like being randomly set up like this, a little small talk isn't too terrible. And thanks to this conversation, Soma has learned that people with interesting abilities have also been brought to this place.

Luke sighs. That really closes it off, doesn't it. No matter how pretty he is either way, this guy just isn't interested. He'll have to divert himself in a different way.

"Oh well," he says, and switches back to look like himself. Well. His Soma-aged self. "I'm Luke, right now. That's all that matters, really."

[assaulter]

"Your date ended being total dud. Sorry about that." It's a sad thing to admit, but Soma felt he needed to apologize for being a downer.

"And, my name is Soma."

[infernoandhearth]

"Not entirely," said Luke. "We're still talking, right? It was always going to be a lottery, who I ended up with. That's the blind part, isn't it?" He smiles cheerfully at Soma. "Do you want to give the food a go, now? I'll try it first, if you want to be sure it's edible."

[assaulter]

Soma's remains silent for a moment, and finally, a small smile appears on his face. "You're very considerate." The last part amused him a little. "I think I'll take you up on that offer, thanks."

[infernoandhearth]

"Good!" says Luke, and heads for the food tables, looking back over his shoulder to talk at Soma as he does so.

"I think I'll go for what they've made that isn't in the cafeteria," he says. "I can have that any time, really. What do you think? Main meals or desserts? I'm food tasting for you, after all."

[assaulter]

That kind of logic definitely sounds about right. Why have something they are going to serve throughout the month when there's newer things available to try?

"At this point, I think I'm pretty traumatized by the cafeteria food. I'll have to go with the main meals though."

Regular food before dessert. That's how it usually goes, right? Of course... cheating a little is alright too. Sometimes.

Luke's of the opinion that a person should eat whatever they like whenever they want, but he's fine with Soma's choice.

"The maggoty cheese was a bit much," he agrees, and starts to fill a plate with meats and vegetables. He eats about every fifth thing he picks up.

"It all seems fine," he says, swallowing his latest bite. "I'll eat whatever you don't like, how does that sound?"

[assaulter]

"That's a lot more than I could ask for, thanks." Soma grabs his own plate and begins to fill it with the same variety of foods that Luke placed on his plate.

"I'll try not to over stuff you with the things from my plate. I come from a world where food is hard to find and eat." With that said, he'll do his best to finish whatever he can. Honestly, the grossest food that's available here is actually a lot better than some of the things he's eaten at home.

But because Soma didn't know what he should stay away from, he ended up getting food poisoning at one point. Even the basic looking cakes available are things he's unsure of.

"I've been there," says Luke sympathetically. "And I'm not sure I can get overstuffed, but you're more than welcome to try." He's not a huge fan of pressing for people's backstories. They tend to expect reciprocation.

"I'm happy to become your fulltime foodtaster," he says. "As long as you're comfortable taking similar mealtimes." He grins at Soma. "That's one of the best things about this place now, I've discovered. You never really want for food. Well, as long as the food you want is purple-y, really old eggs, but they aren't as bad as they look. Or smell."
