We're Gonna Party Rock Till The Day Comes Up!

Summary: The giant party is finally here! Mingle, Blind date and strange things ahoy!
Warnings: WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN.

Floor Thirty-Eight. Normally just a simple lounge, it was now Party Central.

It was clear Eikichi had put all of his heart into it. Say what you wanted about him, but he was a good manager and organizer. The place didn't look the same, with the flower bouquets strewing in odd corners, the bright pieces of tissues hung around like garlands. They had no balloons so they made with. A few banners hung into the air, the words crudely painted with Maya's name and wishing her a happy birthday. There was also a few others with the names of the birthdays Eikichi had managed to get.

At the entrance, there was a a few large baskets filled with corsages that Jun had prepared - acacias white (friendship and chaste love), yellow (secret love) and pink (friendship), white violets (Purity; Candor; Modesty; Innocence; Let's take a chance on happiness) and pink roses (Perfect happiness, please believe me; Friendship) expertly woven pieces of stems and grass meant it required no other materials than the flower themselves.

Of course, the meanings were not written. You just had a few to chose from. Then you could offer one to your date to wear on their hand...if you wished.

As Eikichi had said, no pressure.

...Except for coming, of course.

Those that were part of the blind dates had each been given a small piece of paper with a symbol.As they entered they could see a small sign instructing to try and find the other person with the same symbol. This would be their 'date' of the night.

On the farthest left to the entrance, they had dragged in a gigantic music system, with an area for a DJ to run (Tatsuya had helped with the wiring). Some large pieces of metals had been lined up to cover the floor, making a fake stage and on top of that, he had placed various instruments - along with those of his band, of course. The stage would be open for them to play later, regardless.

The main area reserved for food was a few tables that had been dragged in here, covered with whatever tissues they had found and filled with all the food they could take - some of it was typical stuff found in the cafeteria this week (but no gross stuff - Eikichi didn't want living maggots in his cheese today), the rest had been made by those nice enough to help with the cooking. There wasn't that much typical 'party food' as creating your own sweets and chips does take a while, but the jerky meats, the hot soups and the vegetables more than made up for it. The drinks were placed right besides it and who knew how many trips they had needed to set it all up.

There were also cakes on the next table, enough to feed at least everyone in the part a generous slice. Considering the ingredients and the people involved they ranged from the very simple to baked pies using the available fruits, and a single cake which appeared to have more work than the others. They did with what they had, and it was fantastic they had so much at all.

All the chairs and bags found in that room normally were tossed in a corner facing the central area so that people could sit down if they felt like it, but the central area was reserved to talk, mingle and dance once everything REALLY got underway.

It would soon too, once the crowds started to get bigger and bigger.

He really wasn't a huge fan of parties, but... well. It would be kind of nice to at least grab something for himself. It really had been the worst birthday ever, and if he could get a cookie or something it might help a little.

So Ken had carefully slipped into the party, grabbed a piece of pie, and was attempting to leave the party before anyone questioned what he was doing.

She passed Ken as he was grabbing something and heading out, and it took her a moment to realise that he'd been one of the people in Jason's pod.

She should at least check up on him, right...? Or something like that.

"Ah, hello...?" Her voice is a little hesitant.

Ken stopped and stared back at Mami. He remembered her. She was the girl who had been killed, right?

"... Hi there." His voice is about equally as hesitant.

[Minako pauses in front of him, a tray in her hand laden down with drinks. Ken's birthday had passed during the whole Minato fiasco, hadn't it...]

Hi Ken. Want a drink?

[He freezes for a moment, before realizing this isn't the one from his world. Still, he doesn't trust her, but it's at least enough to not make him outright hostile. Besides... after last month they really couldn't afford to do much more fighting between themselves, not when there were bigger enemies to take down.]

Um... maybe some juice or something...

Sure thing. Apple? Grape? Fruit punch?

Fruit punch, I guess.

[He takes a deep breath and tries to relax.]

[She moves to the side for a moment to pour the drink, then comes back to offer it with a small smile.]

[He takes a sip, staring back up at her a little uncomfortably.]

There... I was in SEES in your world, right? Do you know... why?

Seeing a kid sneaking into a birthday party thing and then leaving struck Link as very, very...odd. Kids usually stuck around for these kinds of things, especially for a party this big.

"Y'leaving this soon?" Not even just to listen to the music, or...?

Ken looked up at the older boy, and just shrugged, hunching his shoulders a little. "I don't really like big parties..."

Well...okay yeah, if he didn't like parties that much, it couldn't be argued, but...

"Yeah, I'm normally not a huge fan, either." And yet, he looks around at everyone here, having a blast.

"...Rare sight around here, though, you know?"

"It really is. There was someone who threw a party for watching the thunderstorms a while ago, but I didn't go."

He really didn't see the point of it... at least this one had food he could take for his own little celebration.

"You should grab some real food to eat first. You'll get sick if you eat just the pie."

Chidori's good at appearing from nowhere at inopportune times to keep certain young men from ruining their supper. Tonight is no exception, and she blinks placidly at Ken over the rim of the cup she raises to her lips after speaking, brows rising expectantly.

"I know. I was going to eat something else later... I just wanted some kind of... birthday cake sort of thing..."

All of these people make him kind of nervous. Can't they just have a party or something on their own?

Her expression twists, for a moment, into a pained expression. In the wake of everything that had happened, she'd completely forgotten about doing something to make Ken's spending his birthday in that mess less miserable.

"...I would have made you something, if I knew you wanted it."

"It's okay. I didn't want to bother you. I... thought most of us could use some space." He had been a little hesitant to approach Minato and Jin after... that... and he hadn't been sure how to really approach Chidori after the whole mess.

Ken shifts a little uncomfortably. He didn't mean to make her upset...

Chidori only sighs and shakes her head a little, reaching out to settle a hand on his shoulder.

"It's understandable. It hasn't been... the best time. For any of us, really."

She musters a slight smile, and gives his shoulder a squeeze, trying to be reassuring.

"But you can always ask me for anything, Ken. Really."

[Ah...

She knew this boy. He was... he was in Jason's pod with her.]

... You should try eating something more substantial than a single piece of pie. You'll make yourself sick.

[... Oh. He looks back up at Naoto - that's right, they were in the same pod. But the idea of someone he doesn't really know 'mothering' him bugs him.]

I"m going to eat something else. Why do you care, anyway?

Unfortunately, Hei had noticed Ken walking away from the party. Hei wasn't a big fan of parties all that much, but based on the situation of Ken and those in the pods, one would think they may find some comfort with being around those they care for. Hei isn't standing before him, and he is in fact leaning against the wall as Ken is about to pass him.

"I take it you aren't enjoying yourself here?"

He pauses and looks up, shaking his head.

"I don't really like parties... or being around a lot of people."

Something they had in common.

"Any particular reason why?"

"I'm not used to being around a lot of people." Which was true, honestly... he had spent so much time living on the streets in the past two years that he had just gotten used to hiding from most people.

"I see, but even so, wouldn't you wish to be around those you care about?"

Hei had not seen much interaction within those pods with Ken, but he did take a glance or two. It was clear this kid had friends in there after all.
