We're Gonna Party Rock Till The Day Comes Up!

Characters: EVERYONE
Setting: Floor 38
Format: Whatever you feel comfortable with. Prose, action, it's all good.
Summary: The giant party is finally here! Mingle, Blind date and strange things ahoy!
Warnings: WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN.

Floor Thirty-Eight. Normally just a simple lounge, it was now Party Central.

It was clear Eikichi had put all of his heart into it. Say what you wanted about him, but he was a good manager and organizer. The place didn't look the same, with the flower bouquets strewing in odd corners, the bright pieces of tissues hung around like garlands. They had no balloons so they made with. A few banners hung into the air, the words crudely painted with Maya's name and wishing her a happy birthday. There was also a few others with the names of the birthdays Eikichi had managed to get.

At the entrance, there was a a few large baskets filled with corsages that Jun had prepared - acacias white (friendship and chaste love), yellow (secret love) and pink (friendship), white violets (Purity; Candor; Modesty; Innocence; Let's take a chance on happiness) and pink roses (Perfect happiness, please believe me; Friendship) expertly woven pieces of stems and grass meant it required no other materials than the flower themselves.

Of course, the meanings were not written. You just had a few to chose from. Then you could offer one to your date to wear on their hand...if you wished.

As Eikichi had said, no pressure.

...Except for coming, of course.

Those that were part of the blind dates had each been given a small piece of paper with a symbol.As they entered they could see a small sign instructing to try and find the other person with the same symbol. This would be their 'date' of the night.

On the farthest left to the entrance, they had dragged in a gigantic music system, with an area for a DJ to run (Tatsuya had helped with the wiring). Some large pieces of metals had been lined up to cover the floor, making a fake stage and on top of that, he had placed various instruments - along with those of his band, of course. The stage would be open for them to play later, regardless.

The main area reserved for food was a few tables that had been dragged in here, covered with whatever tissues they had found and filled with all the food they could take - some of it was typical stuff found in the cafeteria this week (but no gross stuff - Eikichi didn't want living maggots in his cheese today), the rest had been made by those nice enough to help with the cooking. There wasn't that much typical 'party food' as creating your own sweets and chips does take a while, but the jerky meats, the hot soups and the vegetables more than made up for it. The drinks were placed right besides it and who knew how many trips they had needed to set it all up.

There were also cakes on the next table, enough to feed at least everyone in the part a generous slice. Considering the ingredients and the people involved they ranged from the very simple to baked pies using the available fruits, and a single cake which appeared to have more work than the others. They did with what they had, and it was fantastic they had so much at all.

All the chairs and bags found in that room normally were tossed in a corner facing the central area so that people could sit down if they felt like it, but the central area was reserved to talk, mingle and dance once everything REALLY got underway.

It would soon too, once the crowds started to get bigger and bigger.

[It applies often enough, still. And it applies to the two of them, which really is all that matters right now, isn't it?

He lets his eyes linger for a second before nodding lightly ('All right.'), and well since they are at the table now there are really other things to think about. Sorta. Riku looks curious as he peers down at the table, he's not really hungry either, but it doesn't hurt to check what the buffet is holding in store for later.]

[That it is! Which means it's probably still a safe plan.]

[Naminé's making no move to actually try anything at first, more interested in visually surveying everything. Some of it is more or less familiar, at least vaguely; she never really did get the chance to experience very many different foodstuffs in her life, but she's at least seen memories of a few. Goodness, where is she even supposed to start?]

[Riku isn't quite moving either, hands folded behind his back as he leans forward and tilts his head before he turns back towards Naminé.]

Anything catching your eye?

Mm... a lot of things.

[Whoops. She smiles, laughing at herself just a little.]

I'm afraid I'm not sure where to start. I don't know that much about food. [Living off of sandwiches most of her life and all--] Is there anything you'd suggest?

He unfolds one of his hands, tapping against his chin.]

Well, it's afternoon... I suppose, it'd be just the right time to test out the cakes?

[For those with a sweet tooth at least.]

[Maybe! She seems to be in a good mood.]

[She watches him a moment, looking thoughtful at the suggestion.]

Cakes?

[The girl turns to look over at the food, glancing around perhaps a little longer than someone actually familiar with cakes would. She does pick the right thing when she points, however.] You mean that? [... Naminé you deprived girl, you've never had cake, have you.]

[Hah! He'll definitely try that then.

He looks just a little dumbfound at her reaction, eyes widening when he realizes... she's never had cake, at least not back home. A moment later he makes a small noise ("Oh.") and nods, quickly moving along down where the cakes are, a small, encouraging smile settling on his face.]

You should try some.

[She blinks up at him when it takes a second for him to react, thinking that she's made a mistake, but-- oh, he's smiling? She trails after him just a little uncertainly, looking up at him, then, after he speaks, down at the cakes.]

I-- think I'd like that. [From what she thinks she remembers hearing, that is. She pauses a moment, then edges a little closer to carefully grab one.]

[He chuckles a little, keeping smiling, waiting for her to try, to see her reacting, her opinion. It's a first and hopefully it will be an enjoyable one.]

[She's a little too distracted by the confection to notice; she's studying the thing rather intently. After doing so a few seconds, she finally does take a bite, looking thoughtful. Judging by the smile that follows, she quite likes it. It's about then that she realizes she's being watched and pauses, then blinks at him, head tilting.]

[He starts grinning when he sees that smile, the grin widening when their eyes meet. He is very, very happy to see that she likes it and it shows.]

And? What are your thoughts on your first taste of cake?

[Seeing him grinning like that has a pleased smile on her face even before he says anything, and it only widens after that.]

It's delicious...! I'm not used to things that are so sweet, but-- I like it, I think. [The sweetest thing she ever really had a chance to get used to before was fruit and fruit juice, and that had already been more of a treat than anything.]

[Naminé-laugh-tally: 3! Hat-trick! (yea)

He chuckles a little and nods.]

I guess the sugar takes a bit to get used to. I'm glad you like it though.

[Btw, totally making note to keep an eye out for nice food things he might for Naminé to be introduced to. Because clearly, they need to broaden her culinary tastes.]

[Definitely worth an achievement title, that's for sure.]

[Don't mind her if she nibbles at the cake a little more.]

It's... actually sort of nice, not being used to it yet. It's exciting because it's something new.

[Something new that is also yummy. That smile is getting quite comfortable on her lips. Also yes, yes they do, and there's plenty of broadening that can be done, since her usual diet mostly consisted of 1. sandwiches 2. water 3. occasional fruit or fruit juice BEFORE the Tower, and now in it the food isn't always much better than that.]

Something quite exotic, huh?

[It's strange to think about it like that... but it makes sense in her case, of course.

Well, it's not like they are likely to have a chance for more cake again soon. Though Riku will certainly try to pick up sweets for her to try, if he finds the chance.]

Mm. I... know that must seem strange.

[She actually looks a little apologetic about it, even though she knows he's aware of her... special circumstances.]

It's funny -- this place has given me so many opportunities I never would have had otherwise.

[She smiles through that, though it's a sober, slip of one. He's also aware of the complications related to that; talking about the newness of her chances for things like this is less troubling when she's telling people without his understanding, people who don't know what she really means by that. But all the same, she is not sad. This chance is a beautiful one. As if to offset the less desirable connotations, she smiles more widely again, and, pleasantly,]

Like being here with you.

There are stranger things.

[And given her special circumstances, well...

He snorts lightly; he really wouldn't call that funny... but rather ironic. But then again, the two of them should know best that nothing is just black and white. Shades of gray and all.

Overall, he just really wishes she would have gotten those chances in a better place than this. A peaceful place, where there was no need to worry about the likes of Xehanort or the Organization, or about fixing something that is really only in part her fault. A place where there's no need to worry about the whims of someone like Jason or Ruana.

But then he catches that last line and really can't help but give her a startled look, because... that's about the last thing he would have expected. They had spent quite a bit of time back home as well, though... moments like this one right now, had been rare.

After a moment a smile reappears on his face, voice quiet as he replies.]

I'm glad that it did. Despite...

[Despite all the other horrible things that went on here.]

I suppose so.

[And somehow, she's grateful for that.]

[So rarely has anything in her life actually been humorous, nor 'funny' and applicable term in that sense. (Shades of gray indeed.)]

[It's a wish she shares, though it is only a distant one. Ugly truths have been such a large part of her existence that she's almost too ready to accept and deal with them; that coupled with her (low) estimation of her own worth leaves such wishes in the cold, so to speak, because she never really puts much energy into them. She is grateful for what she has, thorns and all. (Much dearer and more powerful is the wish that the others didn't have to be in such a situation, either.)]

[She doesn't miss his startled look - she can practically feel it even before she raises her amused but not insincere eyes to his. Just as quietly,]

Despite the circumstances.

[Her 'feelings' on the matter are the same.]

... Hey, Riku? ... Thank you. For-- going through with this even though you didn't intend for it to happen.

[The blind date thing, she means.]
