Summary: The giant party is finally here! Mingle, Blind date and strange things ahoy!
Warnings: WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN.

Floor Thirty-Eight. Normally just a simple lounge, it was now Party Central.

It was clear Eikichi had put all of his heart into it. Say what you wanted about him, but he was a good manager and organizer. The place didn't look the same, with the flower bouquets strewing in odd corners, the bright pieces of tissues hung around like garlands. They had no balloons so they made with. A few banners hung into the air, the words crudely painted with Maya's name and wishing her a happy birthday. There was also a few others with the names of the birthdays Eikichi had managed to get.

At the entrance, there was a a few large baskets filled with corsages that Jun had prepared - acacias white (friendship and chaste love), yellow (secret love) and pink (friendship), white violets (Purity; Candor; Modesty; Innocence; Let's take a chance on happiness) and pink roses (Perfect happiness, please believe me; Friendship) expertly woven pieces of stems and grass meant it required no other materials than the flower themselves.

Of course, the meanings were not written. You just had a few to chose from. Then you could offer one to your date to wear on their hand...if you wished.

As Eikichi had said, no pressure.

...Except for coming, of course.

Those that were part of the blind dates had each been given a small piece of paper with a symbol.As they entered they could see a small sign instructing to try and find the other person with the same symbol. This would be their 'date' of the night.

On the farthest left to the entrance, they had dragged in a gigantic music system, with an area for a DJ to run (Tatsuya had helped with the wiring). Some large pieces of metals had been lined up to cover the floor, making a fake stage and on top of that, he had placed various instruments - along with those of his band, of course. The stage would be open for them to play later, regardless.

The main area reserved for food was a few tables that had been dragged in here, covered with whatever tissues they had found and filled with all the food they could take - some of it was typical stuff found in the cafeteria this week (but no gross stuff - Eikichi didn't want living maggots in his cheese today), the rest had been made by those nice enough to help with the cooking. There wasn't that much typical 'party food' as creating your own sweets and chips does take a while, but the jerky meats, the hot soups and the vegetables more than made up for it. The drinks were placed right besides it and who knew how many trips they had needed to set it all up.

There were also cakes on the next table, enough to feed at least everyone in the part a generous slice. Considering the ingredients and the people involved they ranged from the very simple to baked pies using the available fruits, and a single cake which appeared to have more work than the others. They did with what they had, and it was fantastic they had so much at all.

All the chairs and bags found in that room normally were tossed in a corner facing the central area so that people could sit down if they felt like it, but the central area was reserved to talk, mingle and dance once everything REALLY got underway.

It would soon too, once the crowds started to get bigger and bigger.

[Haha; he's made her laugh! That's a good start for this... evening, he thinks. It really is, isn't it?

Embarrassing himself? Well, maybe just a little if this attempt to maybe show her something like a proper date - or what he guesses might be - fails (even if they are spending this evening strictly as friends, there is no harm in... playing along with the event, is there?). But no that blush is really not at all connected to this possibility. Though given that giggle and that smile, he does seem to have succeeded, so.

He blinks at that offer of hers, an eyebrow raising, though he's still smiling.]

You know I wouldn't offer unless I wanted to, right?

[She should know that, right?]

[A wonderful start! And something much too rarely offered her; a good laugh and a sincere smile are gifts for her in and of themselves.]

[He'd find himself hard pressed to truly screw things up, although it may be for the best that she isn't aware of precisely what he has in mind; she's her own biggest blind spot, after all.]

[That eyebrow has her looking half-jokingly ashamed of herself before he even answers. She falters a moment, eyes lowering almost shyly.]

... Of course. [It's cheerful but also a little guilty. Almost morning once more,] You're just too nice to me, I guess.

[Well, then best to try and continue that way!

Maybe it would take a lot, but considering just how long Riku's list of screw-ups is, he doesn't dare to assume that he won't. Though it's not like he plans to tell her what he is up to, because that would be well... just awkward.

He just shakes his head, he isn't being too nice - she deserves so much better - but he knows that saying this out loud would just have her disagree again. So he just takes a step forward to lead her further into the room.]

Let's just have a good time.

[Given recent events, that should be a nice change of pace... even if it lasts only for one afternoon.]

[Terribly, terribly awkward, even if she'd never think less of him for it. It just... wouldn't go over well, considering her mindset on the matter. (That's not to say, however, that she wouldn't be very, very touched.)]

[That's much easier for her to along with; she makes no fuss about it, following his move once her eyes move upward again, glancing at him and then their path.]

... Mm. It shouldn't be too hard, right?

[Her attention returns to him, and if that smile is any indication? It's not just the party making things easier she's talking about; it's the company, too.]

That is what we're here for.

[He figures and well... how do you put things like that in words anyways (Though that would at least be maybe a part-success?).]

[He smiles and nods, trying to figure out where to go - he is kind of winging this whole date-thing (what else is he supposed to do given that he has so absolutely zero experience with this? Twilight Town doesn't exactly count after all. That was just friends hanging out. Wasn't it ?).

Hmm...

Food is always a good idea. Or drinks at least. Right?]

Do you want to pick up some food? Or a drink, maybe?

[Very awkwardly, most likely, considering who they'd be coming from and who would be hearing them. Keeping quiet about it may for the best.]

[She's just as lost as he is, if not more, and so after she smiles back, she stays where she is. After a moment, she glances around at the party, looking thoughtful.]

[Right. Goodness knows this girl obviously doesn't get enough of it. She's as skinny as ever. She blinks up at him when he speaks, smile spreading.]

Sure. [There's a place set aside for such things, so clearly this is an appropriate Party Activity, yes?] Sounds good.

[Yep, definitely keeping that quiet.

Well, then all the better. Time to occupy that area for a while.

He answers that smile with one of his own, stomach fluttering a little as he takes the lead over to the nearest food table. Slowly of course. No need to rush anything. Right?]

[Good call.]

[It's certainly of interest, even aside from its purpose - always gotta check out what possibly interesting looking things they have sitting around, right? For someone who spent so long deprived of real experiences, almost everything that she sees has some interest value to it.]

[No need to rush at all, it seems; she does glance thoughtfully at him when she takes notice of that, but she appears perfectly content to just stroll along next to him at whatever pace he sets, a small smile on her face.]

[Of course. Not to mention that food is a delightfully neutral topic, one that can be talked about plenty regardless of experience. That should serve well as small talk topic, should they end up needing one, right?

There may be just a flicker of question in his eyes when he catches that thoughtful glance, but it disappears a moment later as they reach the buffet tables.]

[Most people do need to eat, after all - although in a place like the tower, who knows how broadly that still applies. Regardless, it's almost always safe, indeed, and Naminé hasn't offered any indication that it might be otherwise in this case, too. In fact, she seems quite curious about all the things set out.]

[She doesn't fail to notice, and there's a very subtle headshake; 'it's nothing'. It doesn't matter much, anyway, since now that they've reached the table, she's focused on looking around at everything. She is probably more interested in their colors than their taste, at least for now.]

[It applies often enough, still. And it applies to the two of them, which really is all that matters right now, isn't it?

He lets his eyes linger for a second before nodding lightly ('All right.'), and well since they are at the table now there are really other things to think about. Sorta. Riku looks curious as he peers down at the table, he's not really hungry either, but it doesn't hurt to check what the buffet is holding in store for later.]

[That it is! Which means it's probably still a safe plan.]

[Naminé's making no move to actually try anything at first, more interested in visually surveying everything. Some of it is more or less familiar, at least vaguely; she never really did get the chance to experience very many different foodstuffs in her life, but she's at least seen memories of a few. Goodness, where is she even supposed to start?]

[Riku isn't quite moving either, hands folded behind his back as he leans forward and tilts his head before he turns back towards Naminé.]

Mm... a lot of things.

[Whoops. She smiles, laughing at herself just a little.]

I'm afraid I'm not sure where to start. I don't know that much about food. [Living off of sandwiches most of her life and all--] Is there anything you'd suggest?

He unfolds one of his hands, tapping against his chin.]

Well, it's afternoon... I suppose, it'd be just the right time to test out the cakes?

[For those with a sweet tooth at least.]

[Maybe! She seems to be in a good mood.]

[She watches him a moment, looking thoughtful at the suggestion.]

Cakes?

[The girl turns to look over at the food, glancing around perhaps a little longer than someone actually familiar with cakes would. She does pick the right thing when she points, however.] You mean that? [... Naminé you deprived girl, you've never had cake, have you.]

[Hah! He'll definitely try that then.

He looks just a little dumbfound at her reaction, eyes widening when he realizes... she's never had cake, at least not back home. A moment later he makes a small noise ("Oh.") and nods, quickly moving along down where the cakes are, a small, encouraging smile settling on his face.]

You should try some.

[She blinks up at him when it takes a second for him to react, thinking that she's made a mistake, but-- oh, he's smiling? She trails after him just a little uncertainly, looking up at him, then, after he speaks, down at the cakes.]

I-- think I'd like that. [From what she thinks she remembers hearing, that is. She pauses a moment, then edges a little closer to carefully grab one.]

[He chuckles a little, keeping smiling, waiting for her to try, to see her reacting, her opinion. It's a first and hopefully it will be an enjoyable one.]

[She's a little too distracted by the confection to notice; she's studying the thing rather intently. After doing so a few seconds, she finally does take a bite, looking thoughtful. Judging by the smile that follows, she quite likes it. It's about then that she realizes she's being watched and pauses, then blinks at him, head tilting.]

[He starts grinning when he sees that smile, the grin widening when their eyes meet. He is very, very happy to see that she likes it and it shows.]

And? What are your thoughts on your first taste of cake?

[Seeing him grinning like that has a pleased smile on her face even before he says anything, and it only widens after that.]

It's delicious...! I'm not used to things that are so sweet, but-- I like it, I think. [The sweetest thing she ever really had a chance to get used to before was fruit and fruit juice, and that had already been more of a treat than anything.]

He chuckles a little and nods.]

I guess the sugar takes a bit to get used to. I'm glad you like it though.

[Btw, totally making note to keep an eye out for nice food things he might for Naminé to be introduced to. Because clearly, they need to broaden her culinary tastes.]

It's... actually sort of nice, not being used to it yet. It's exciting because it's something new.

[Something new that is also yummy. That smile is getting quite comfortable on her lips. Also yes, yes they do, and there's plenty of broadening that can be done, since her usual diet mostly consisted of 1. sandwiches 2. water 3. occasional fruit or fruit juice BEFORE the Tower, and now in it the food isn't always much better than that.]

Well, it's not like they are likely to have a chance for more cake again soon. Though Riku will certainly try to pick up sweets for her to try, if he finds the chance.]
